The interface is clumsy and poorly rendered. Annoying features omitted such as the ability to enter a start mileage for a trip before the trip is completed. Adding a new trip is non-intuitive, which is bizarre! Random crashes. Despite making these shortcomings known to the author, no action over many months. ### 3/5 — Complicated app *2015-01-18, version 2.0.1* Can't figure out the app. ### 2/5 — Great idea. Needs bug fixes. *2014-08-13, version 1.4.2* This app hasn't been updated in over a year. It has great features but constantly crashes and/or freezes. Under curtain circumstances it works great, but under most others, it doesn't. Some minor bug fixes would make it great again, but until then, it's not worth purchasing. ### 2/5 — Nice idea poor programming *2013-11-15, version 1.4.2* Nice app and ideas...but it freezes constantly and there are minor bugs with input screens. Disgraceful. *2011-02-19, version 1.3.0* I tried out the limited trial and ignored the reviews to upgrade to the paid version. Big mistake. This app crashes each time I make a new receipt entry on iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1. Whenever you make a new entry, all the info from the last entry is still copied over, which makes no sense. If you then proceed it crashes. So you have to cancel the new entry and try again. The next time the new entry is correctly blank. If you take a picture of the receipt before you enter the info, you guessed it: crash. All expense categories need sub categories. Why? This app had potential. But this buggy performance should never have passed Apple's approval. BTW I am a business user with over 100 apps. This is one of the worst I have ever used due to stability and senseless design. I think the developer might be writing their own reviews. Because there is no way anyone could give this a positive review when you can barely input a new entry. It's functionally unusable. I hope they fix it. ### 2/5 — Too limited in basic functionality - Use Expensify instead *2011-01-05, version 1.3.0* I tried this app for a few weeks and have recently switched over to Expensify. BizExpense lacks: - ability to read your scanned receipts (images are ridiculously small and can only be zoomed in a bit) - reports are HUGE and flood email boxes - can't really create a nice pdf document with report thumbnails. The report just shows up with every receipt after the next and it's just not practical for submission - CRASHES! sometimes the choosing from library does not work and the app crashes - VERY frustrating - Contacted them but was basically told the functionality is all there... hmmmm dislike! ### 1/5 — Too many bugs *2010-04-06, version 0* Information gets lost - I take a picture of the receipt and save it and then it is not there. Same with entering expense information. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Also, too many key strokes are required to process a receipt. A suggested improvement would be to be able to split the report generated into their payment methods and give a total of each, thus allowing to seperate all cash and card payments. ### 4/5 — Great App *2010-01-24, version 0* My first pass is great. I like the GUI and layout. Very easy to use and love the option to attach recipt. So far so good. Will rate again after my first week of entry. But like what I see for now. ### 4/5 — Pretty good and a creative way of submitting claims *2009-09-08, version 0* I like this - it suits my need and covers all the varied expense claim categories I need and allows me a mix of business, project and monthly expense categories I need. I like the wireless access to the claim form for printing - very innovative. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is that the field selection (such as mileage distance) seems very flaky and will not respond to inputs - crashing that claim item and restarting is necessary. Fix this and I'd give it 5 stars. ### 4/5 — Well done... *2009-09-02, version 0* ... but I have to agree with others, the buttons are sometimes difficult to hit, just touching the fields for input like so many other apps would make it even better. Otherwise, I've found it does everything I need it to do through 2 weeks and 2 trips. ### 3/5 — Good but why is there functionality missing on the paid version???!!! *2009-07-08, version 0* Potential to be very useful but in the free version you could take a snapshot of the receipt and then view the receipt again in full screen by tapping on it. In the Paid version all you see is small thumbnail of your receipt - far too small to read!!! Please fix this ASAP. Now when I try to take a receipt pix the camera doesn't function and it won't save the entry. Poor support. No one responds. Tried it with another trip and kept telling me the pdf was sent and nothing came through. It was ok but I found a couple minor issues and their support problem would never respond. Now after IOS8 update the app is totally unusable. I am giving up. As of ver 1.4.2 it keeps crashing on my iPhone 5/ios7. When it sends expense reports it attaches the copies of the receipts as jpg but attributes the attachments as png files. So they can not be opened in most of the email clients. I submitted a bug report more than 6 months ago with no results. I tried to submit crash logs from within the app but even this feature doesn’t work. I am looking for some alternative apps to track my expenses. ### 1/5 — Poor Support/ Print report is useless / Look elsewhere for better app *2014-01-05, version 1.4.2* Updated: DO NOT BUY THIS APP. I AGAIN HAVE WRITTEN THE DEVELOPER WITH PROBLEMS WITH THIS APP. HE IS NOT DOING ANYTHING WITH THIS. AVOID. THERE ARE BETTER ONES. 1. When printing reports, the actual expense report is tiny to almost unreadable when printing it out compared to the large images of the receipts. My book-keeper could not read the report and I had to hand write it out. Waste of time. Without a report for the accountant, this is useless. The concept is good, and could be improved on, but without a good reporting avenue, it won't help anyone. 2. When i reported this to support, it took almost a week for a response. And when I received a response, it was very inadequate and not helpful. I had written support about a problem with photographing expenses, and the same thing happened- it took forever for a response and it was not helpful. More to the point, my accounts department loves it... Being able to take an image of the receipt and attach it to the expense item - nice work. Email the lot to accounts, it means my expenses are processed quickly and on time without having to head back to the office / post / fax the receipts. My only suggestion would be to be able to assign a cost code to individual expenses (as opposed to trips). ### 5/5 — Excellent  *2009-07-12* Magnifique application, personnalisable à souhait. Très pratique pour tenir à jour les dépenses de voyages. Tant en prévisions qu'en tenue au jour le jour, cette appli rend bcp de service. A vous de créer vos profils, le style de dépenses, avec des rubriques et des sous-rubriques ( par ex. Avion, train, voiture, location voiture, taxi, bus etc ... Pour la rubrique transport) etc... Vous pouvez créer autant de rubriques et de sous-rubriques que vous souhaitez. Vous pouvez même vous en servir pour autre chose que les dépenses de voyages. - je m'en sers pour gérer mes dépenses de femme de ménage ou autre emploi avec les cheques emploi service (pour la France) : j'ai tout de suite un aperçu des dépenses mois après mois - je m'en sers aussi --pour des dépenses récurrentes, telles des frais immobiliers pour la gestion d'un parc d'appartements , --pour savoir combien me coûte mon chien à l'année ( nourriture, pension, vétérinaire, jouets, laisses, transports etc...) En fait, vous pouvez imaginer un tas de possibilités, par exemple: vous allez organiser une grande fête pour votre anniversaire : vous pouvez faire un budget prévisionnel pour cette opération ponctuelle. Vraiment, c'est une très bonne appli que je ne regrette pas d'avoir achetée à ses débuts. Elle ne plante pas. Vous pouvez tenir des comptes dans des monnaies différentes (elle a un module de conversion intégré) Vous pouvez séparer des dépenses entre différents partenaires. Et cerise sur le gateau, toutes les données sauvegardées sont exportables via mail, comme ça, une fois le projet terminé, vous pouvez le garder sur votre ordi, l'archiver ou l'imprimer. Je ne vois pas de défaut. Ah! Si ! Un tout petit : bien qu'ayant suivi la procedure à la lettre, je n'ai jamais réussi à exporter d'autres icônes. On me dit qu'ils sont bien exportés, mais ils ne se sont jamais affichés ... Mystère ... En conclusion : je recommande vivement cette belle appli, très configurable, qui vous rendra de grands services. ### 5/5 — super *2009-06-30* Correspond a mon besoin: enregistrer des dépenses au fil de l'eau lors d'un voyage professionnel et en sortir une note de frais. ### 5/5 — Five stars *2009-04-23, version 0* Perrfect app... ### 4/5 — Does what I need it to do *2012-04-29, version 1.4* I don't need to print any reports, so I can not comment on that, all I needed was an app where I could keep track of the money I spend on Air fare, hotels, cabs and restaurants, now I know how much it cost to go to the boat I work on and return home 6 weeks later. ### 4/5 — Exactly what it says it is, does it pretty well... *2010-12-16, version 1.3.0* This app is just about perfect for tracking expenses while traveling on business. I suspect the users who gave this a 1-star rating expected it to be more like a budgeting app, which is most definitely not. And that's why I like it; it does what it does, and for the most part it does it pretty well. I paid $4.99 for another so-called travel expense app, and that one was simply a re-wrapped budgeting app that didn't even let me change the dates on entered expenses, so if you entered an expense the day after it was incurred the date was wrong... Pros: * you can take the free version for a test drive; it's limited to 5 entries, but it's a 1-step process to export those 5 entries to the paid version if you decide you want to buy it. IMHO, this is a perfect example of what should differentiate a free vs. a paid app. * you can easily take a picture of a receipt and associate it with an expense; the person I submit to accepts these, so I don't have to submit the actual paper receipt. I enter the receipt as I collect it, and the only reason I keep the receipt is in case I lose my phone before I get a chance to submit the report. Once I submit and it's accepted, I toss the bundle of unsorted receipts away. No more sorting receipts! * when I contacted support on a couple of issues that turned into feature requests, I got mail back within an hour. Nice touch. * expense entry widget is also a currency conversion calculator. I checked the supplied exchanges rates against xe.com, and they're pretty close, and you can enter your own exchange rate if you feel it's out by too much. * you can customize the currency list to only include relevant currencies. Cons (nothing that's a show-stopper here, just the difference between a 4-star and 5-star rating): * some of the UI elements are difficult to select; I'm guessing the target area on the display is quite small. An example if when you are viewing the expenses grouped by category or date for a trip. The red triangle icons on the left of the interface to roll-up or expand the group are difficult to hit, and I continually hit the "back" button instead of the upper-most triangle icon. You should be able to roll-up the group by tapping anywhere on the group bar * you can set a default currency for the app, and you can override the default currency for a trip, but you can't submit a report in a currency that's different from the trip's currency.
