This app is very simple, very practical, and very useful. I highly recommend it if you want to supplement your bjj classes with more detailed step by step info.

### 5/5 — Blue belt requirements

Great production. This will really help with training, especially things that i may forget from class.

### 5/5 — Excellent App

*2011-07-06, version 1.3*

This is an excellent App. Roy is clearly very talented and an excellent instrtuctor:- you can learn the basics from this app.

This app is a perfect supplemen to your BJJ training. This app keeps you interested; is immensely watchable and helps you remember those little details you probable forgot in from class !

This is highly recommended and worth money; in fact, it;s great value when you compare it to some of the over priced apps out there.

Well done, Roy - much respect. (No, I don't know Roy and I am not his student....I don't even live in the same country).

### 5/5 — Must have for an aspiring blue belt

*2011-07-03*

This is a great app that contains a few attacks and escapes from each position. A must have for someone in their first 2 years of BJJ.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review! We tried to present high percentage options, which increases the success rate of movements, and makes jiu jitsu far more enjoyable to train.

### 5/5 — Good stuff

*2011-05-07*

I have been teaching mma and this one of the tools i usevwhen taeching other teachers

**Developer response:** Thanks Nbearwolf.

### 5/5 — WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

*2011-03-23*

I just started BJJ last month. I have found that I try and practice the moves on open mat days, but am practicing the wrong techniques. This app goes with me to the gym and I open up one of the lessons, "sweeps", "guard escapes". Allows me to work on all the basics. I'm holding after about 1 month of working on these, I'll add another one of the lessons.

**Developer response:** Thanks Xfig. We really appreciate you taking the time out to share your experience with us.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2011-02-13*

Roy Dean has the best Jiu Jitsu apps available.

**Developer response:** Thank you! I aim to put jiu jitsu in the best light possible. Good training to you.

### 5/5 — Great APP Mon!

*2011-01-21*

I am a brown belt and I reference this APP regularly. It's great information, highly effective moves and worth the price. I bought this and the purple belt one. Get the free APP too, it's great.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review. Upper belts have an even greater appreciation of the techniques presented, and principles on display. Glad it could help you on your journey to black belt.

### 5/5 — Worth the expenditure

*2011-01-15*

Have not heard of this guy before.....part philosopher, teacher and obviously gifted at the sport. I bought the purple belt app as well. His intros are great, analogies to language and physical expression are spot on,demonstrations are clear both in explanation and visuals.....this dude is the bomb, better than any other beginning instruction I have seen

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the positive rating. We're happy that you're happy.

### 5/5 — Suberb

Really enjoy the added videos demonstrating the skill of Mr Deans students and videos of him competing!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 4/5 — Good but too expensive!

*2012-05-23*

I found this to be very helpful way to approach jiu jitsu as a beginner. I like the way the major areas of study are broken down, however I would request the developer to break things down further into videos for each specific move under each category, its a little annoying to have to scroll through the videos to pickup where you left off. Good demonstration and explanations! Please update!

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review, and we appreciate your feedback. The app has been updated and hopefully you'll find it easier to use than ever. Good training to you!

### 4/5 — All you need to know for this level.

*2011-09-25, version 1.3*

Clear and concise instruction really well laid out in sections just would love it slightly more detailed ie search for a triangle choke and escape. Will get the next one up once I buy my blue belt.

### 4/5 — Pricey

*2011-08-03*

I gave this a 4 star review because of the price. Other than the price this app is excellent.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. I hope the app has continued to increase in value as a training tool as you've advanced in the art. All the best.

### 4/5 — Good app but a little too expensive

*2010-09-21*

Let me start by saying this is a really good app. Roy has great videos, gives wonderful instructions on not only how to perform the move, but also gives information on how to use these moves in developing your game. The videos are well done, and the multiple angles really helped me understand the intricacies of the moves as Roy explain them. My only real complaint was that for the price I really expected more moves and instruction. I feel maybe $25-29 dollars would have been a fairer price. Who knows, maybe they will add more videos to this app. That being said, if you have the money this is a great tool to work on your BJJ when you can't get to class.

### 5/5 — Great addition to any BJJ training!

*2022-01-23*

Love the whole series! This is a great way to get extra training in when your limited to 2-3 days on the mat. Very informative and any level of BJJ can follow along.

### 5/5 — Extremely Helpful

*2019-01-16*

As a year one white belt at a small town gym, with minimal time to train, I felt stuck in rut...and like others were passing me by. This resource helped me a ton. Practical techniques that were explained very well. I feel like I’m back where I should be. Will definitely watch more Roy Dean content.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much, I'm glad you found it helpful.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2015-11-29*

This is a perfect resource for any BJJ student. It is a wonderful catalog of techniques to internalize. Roy has a deep understanding of the art and presents it in a way that is easily grasped. He shows more than just put hand here, move this there, but links things together in series. He always ties things to the greater view of the art, covering both the intricate and 1000 foot look at the technique. Well done. Of to buy the other titles now.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review and the support. I'm glad the app could help you connect the dots in your movement and techniques. All the best.

### 5/5 — Two Thumbs Up!

*2013-06-01*

Great production. Great communicator. A man of refinement. Worth every penny.

**Developer response:** I appreciate the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the app, and wish you the best in your training.

### 5/5 — Great resource

*2013-03-11*

I just started BJJ three months ago and this app has helped my game proceed at a faster rate. Key small insights have made all the difference. The app focuses on the basics which is exactly what I needed. The video and audio are high quality and easy to follow. The instruction is first-rate and very insightful. It's well worth the money.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your kind response, we are pleased to know that we helped you train faster.

### 5/5 — Well Worth the Investment

*2013-02-08*

I am studying BJJ in Brazil and am using this app to help accelerate my learning curve. I am very pleased with the knowledge that I have gained from this app and I am able to use the moves I learn in my actual classes. This is well worth the investment. If you are taking classes, this will help you improve very quickly. He is a great teacher, very good at explaining and demonstrating. Worth every penny.

**Developer response:** Thank you, pleased to hear that you have gained a lot from our BJJ classes.

## Most praised reviews (4 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Very pleased with this App. Well wort the Money.

*2012-12-28*

I am a white belt in BJJ. This is a great learning tool for those who want to eventually progress to a blue belt level. It's very detailed, and they show the moves from various angles. They break it all down into catagories too, like Mount Escapes, Side Mount Escapes, Sweeps, Chokes, Arm Locks, Leg Locks, Guard Passes, and More. I personally feel I got a lot for my money with this App.

**Developer response:** Thank you Ridge, enjoy your BJJ journey.

### 5/5 — Could Be Amazing

*2012-11-08*

This is a great supplement to my training and I'm excelling in class because of it. Don't think twice, this app is well worth the money.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review. We are happy to hear that you've excelled by using it. It's designed to be a perfect supplement to your home academy. All the best.

### 5/5 — A really good app that’s well worth the money.

*2012-01-27, version 1.3*

I'm a newbie at ground-fighting but I’ve trained in other fighting styles for a number of years. In that time I’ve bought several apps of variable quality from other suppliers and I'm pleased to report that this is at the very, very good end of the scale.

It's professionally packaged and produced, and Roy Dean gives clear and concise instructions on a wide variety of BJJ techniques and principles. I particularly like the fact that his instruction is detailed about the sort of important basics I need as a beginner without getting bogged down in the minutiae that I don't need at this stage of my rolling life.

It's well-structured, well-presented and it's something I'll refer back to again and again. A really good app that’s well worth the money.

### 5/5 — Well Done

*2011-12-27*

Roy Dean breaks this down very nicely. The techniques he exhibits are simple, effective, and very easily understood.
