Björkgatan is a cozy Swedish-learning game where you practise language through everyday life. Create a character, explore the neighborhood, talk to people, visit SFI lessons, complete daily tasks, work different jobs, cook food, care for your home, and collect Swedish words as you play. The game is built for learners who want Swedish practice to feel more natural, playful, and connected to real situations. Feedback from testers helps shape the game. ## Version history (last 5 releases) ### 1.0.16 — 2026-08-21 A recorded Swedish voice Over 5,000 lines are now spoken by a real recorded voice instead of your phone's text-to-speech: the SFI teachers, the shopkeepers, your family at home, and the lessons themselves. The letter and sentence exercises read each piece aloud as you place it, and the en/ett drill now says "en bil" and "ett hus" properly. This is the first release with the new voice, so a handful of lines still fall back to your device's voice. Those will be filled in over the coming updates. More words to learn The vocabulary has grown from 678 to over 1,000 words. Most of the additions are words the game was already saying out loud without ever teaching them. Fixed The mastered-words leaderboard showed a score only for you and "Inte mätt" for everyone else. Everyone's count is visible again. ### 1.0.15 — 2026-08-14 New A leaderboard for the words you have mastered. Improved Other players at the swimming hall now actually swim, and they wear their swimwear. Everyone standing around the barbecue can see it and take a turn. When you visit a friend, you can use the garden you are standing in. Speech bubbles now appear in front of the people talking, long messages wrap instead of running off the screen, and the chat box stays above the keyboard while you type. Fixed Music comes back after another app interrupts it. Things you pick in the forest can go into your fridge and your bag. "Kanelbulle" is pronounced correctly again. Fixed the spelling of "tröja" in the wardrobe. ### 1.0.14 — 2026-08-13 Björkgatan is no longer a single-player game. The empty house on Björkgatan is now Mötesplatsen, a meeting place where you can see other players, talk with them in Swedish, and invite them home. A guest sees your world: the house and rooms you built, your family and pets, your farm, your forest and your cars. New in this version: - Mötesplatsen, a shared room for up to eight players, with chat - Invite another player home and explore your world together - Report and block, so you decide who you share the game with - A new word, vän, learned by inviting someone home - The word lists under Ord are now in alphabetical order - Help installing a Swedish voice if your device has none, so Swedish is read with Swedish pronunciation - You can sleep in the child's bed - The ice cream van joins your barbecue Fixes: lunchbox scoring and a scrollable result screen, a missing word after the harbour café, and the pronunciation of paprikapulver. ### 1.0.12 — 2026-08-01 NEW: LISTENING LESSONS The listening teacher in every level room now runs a real listening exercise. You see the English word, hear it spoken in Swedish, and choose the right spelling from four options. This also fixes something important. Mastering a word requires correct answers by reading, writing and listening, and until now the listening part could not be earned at all. Words can finally be mastered. ALSO NEW - Numbers have moved to room S with a teacher of their own, and now cover the full range instead of stopping at your level - Room S is open from level 1 - A room's door sign in the lobby turns green once every word at that room's levels is mastered, so you can see what is finished - Skogen has its own music, and now sits properly on the map with a road leading to it FIXED - Swedish was read aloud in an English voice on devices with no Swedish voice installed - You can now play offline once you are signed in, including in flight mode. Signing in still needs a connection - Tapping "play as guest" at startup could create a second guest account and leave your existing save behind. If that happened, the game now offers your characters back - Several places played the wrong background music ### 1.0.11 — 2026-07-29 NEW: SKOGEN, THE FOREST Head north from Björkgatan and you are out in the woods. - Pick blåbär, hallon and björnbär, ripening fresh again each day - Sort mushrooms in a new minigame where only kantareller and trattkantareller are safe to keep - Spot rådjur, ekorrar and harar before they slip away - Sit at Alve's campfire for a different story every day - Fish the forest tarn - Buy a tent and a sleeping bag, pitch camp, and sleep out under the trees Alve also explains allemansrätten, the Swedish right of public access that lets you do all of this. AT HOME - Kids' furniture at IKEA, for decorating a children's room - Sell furniture you do not want back, for 70% of what you paid - Sofas, bookshelves and tables now have art facing every direction FIXED - Older saves could lose their furniture, bed and family.
