### 3/5 — Not a bad start

*2026-06-18*

So, a useful app, but given I want to browse the range before I buy and the section headers are soooo large and don’t scroll off screen leaving me with a sliver, less than 10% of my tablet screen to view the titles I find it almost impossible to view so I end up giving up and using a different source.

### 3/5 — .

*2026-06-07*

### 2/5 — Lacking too many features

*2026-06-04*

This seems like a good foray into A dedicated app but there’s too many feature that even my original out of support Kindle had that it’s a waste to read on this. How are you supposed to reading Amberlys notes in a Ciaphus Cain novel if there no way to go back to the page you were on? Did you guys even test this by reading a book before putting it live? It also loses you page if you even switching apps, jumping back hundreds of pages. Really bad internal state management and progress saving.

### 3/5 — Pretty good but lacking some features

*2026-06-04*

Generally a pretty good app, tons of titles (of course), but some features are lacking. My biggest complaint is no highlighting or adding comments or bookmarks, something pretty much any other ereader has. ALSO had an issue where I wanted to access the stuff in my library that was “downloaded” during a flight but the app wasn’t functioning offline :(

### 2/5 — 24/05/2026 - Not Good

*2026-05-24*

The app needs a lot of work, a concentrated effort and some feedback requests would be a good way of incorporating improvements but this thing is severely lacking, I’m sure GW know that and I thank them for the free titles on release.

This needs to be a much more attractive offer than say, Audible which it simply isn’t, so I’ll keep using that for now.

The pricing is very ‘GW’ but if you want WH stuff, you don’t have a lot of choice, so we are where we are and we all know that.

If the app is going to be ‘long term’ it really needs a lot of polish but as it stands, it can barely be called basic.

### 2/5 — Fine but major gripes exist for me.

*2026-05-17*

First off, the good. It is a perfectly serviceable reader. It also syncs your old purchases from the BL site. It’s also a perfectly fine storefront and audiobook player. No gripes there. Let me tell you what my gripes are, I have 3, each one knocks a star off of the rating.

1. The purchase sync does not go the other way. Things you buy on this app you cannot then access on the web-front. I get it on this gripe, I don’t expect this to change as GW said this was the direction they wanted to go.

2. The app is a brick if you don’t have network. I’m in the military, and I recently bought The End and the Death trilogy audiobook to listen to while on a trip, but we didn’t have network for much of it, and whenever we didn’t the app wouldn’t let me access my downloaded library. Which might have been fine if not for gripe 3.

3. The audio and ebooks “downloaded” weren’t actually. Well I mean they were but not as an ePub, pdf or an MP3, they are buried somewhere in the app’s api and you can’t extract them without a 3rd party tool which is definitely against the TOS. In short, without network I had no way to access my purchase.

Currently, cannot recommend, buy the books, from a used book store or an FLGS.

### 1/5 — Awful!

*2026-05-15*

This thing looks and behaves like a bad beta version! The books are hopelessly jumbled up with poor search functionality. It needs separate sections for books in different languages as they’re all lumped together and it all looks just sloppy and amateurish. There seems to be no news about forthcoming releases and it’s just sterile. I love BL’s books and this total failure of an app is typical of GW and their ‘shut up and give us your money nerds’ approach to business. Buy Kindle books from Amazon as it’s better to use.

### 3/5 — It’s okay

*2026-05-11*

Zero ability to format the book like in Apple Books. Hope they upgrade the app later. Will buy books through Apple Books if not. I like that format better. Bookmarks font size and color matter to me. I’m old.

### 1/5 — Language selection and bug reporting don’t work

*2026-05-11*

I have selected my language as English and set the sliders in the “show me products in these languages” sections to show me English and exclude French and German. Yet when I search for a book, the results I get are in French or German. The “report an issue with this app” and “report an issue with a product” buttons are non functional (nothing happens when clicked).

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2026-05-06*

There’s so many things wrong with this app. The old audio one was much better. It has to log in each time and doesn’t remember what you’re listening to. It gives basically no options to organise your library a grid like the old one would be much better. So much wasted space and solar flare whiteness. No option to go dark mode. You’d think this being an “upgrade” from the old app but much like their website GW have done a terrible job. If your just starting out your library use audible or anything else cos this app is rubbish

### 1/5 — Pretty rough

*2026-05-05*

This app almost never holds my page. It will typically skip back a few pages, maybe a whole chapter. Very buggy. When I tried logging the bug through the link in the app, it sent an email to Games workshop customer service who hopefully told me that this email was for their physical games and miniatures, not the app. Very curious. It would also be nice if it would arrange your books by order of last read, instead of making me dig down to the bottom of my collection to find the book I want to read.

### 2/5 — Why do I need this?

*2026-05-03*

I just can’t help wondering why this is necessary? If we wanted the audiobooks in the proprietorial format we could stick with Audible. There is absolutely no motivation to shop directly at Black Library anymore, particularly given the pricing. I also agree that a few more features such as a timer and a way to resume your current book would be helpful. I have given this two stars though because, unlike many other Games Workshop and Black Library products, this app works well with VoiceOver.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-04-29*

Great idea but after more than a month, and a update tonight, it still does not save reading progress like basically every other ebook reader app.

Get a grip.

### 1/5 — Missing all the basic features you expect from a book app

*2026-04-27*

Can’t search within a book. Cant scroll down- have to swipe left/right. So many missing features every other app has. Absolutely the worst book reading app imaginable. They ruined the perfectly good web store to force customers to buy inside this terrible app. For shame

### 1/5 — Awful app

*2026-04-26*

Can’t see all the titles from my account, and for those which have been included, no way to organise them.

### 1/5 — purchases aren’t downloading

*2026-04-26*

Purchased five books, all have been at 0% for over an hour. No obvious way to get them any other way, nor to move to eReader. Very very bad first impression. if we can only read in app, zero stars would be too much. Shameful.

### 1/5 — Super schlecht

*2026-04-25*

### 1/5 — Needs Work

*2026-04-18*

It’s obvious that the developers spent the most time and effort on the actual transaction in the app. However, they have neglected the actual reading of their products. I miss the old system of downloading the titles to my Apple Books app. At least that app allows me to pick up where I left off and to highlight lines of text. My advice, improve the quality of life for your readers in the app or print more physical copies.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bitte spart es euch

*2026-08-04*

### 1/5 — Anti consumer app

*2026-08-01*

Locks purchases out of being used on e readers. Poor business plan, and anti consumer

### 1/5 — worst reading app ever

*2026-07-27*

I would give it a zero if I could - Poorly built app, zero native night mode, fonts and layout of the books purchased are very poorly done. Another shrinkflation project by Games Workshop / Warhammer to max profits at the cost of its user base. Have some respect for your authors and release an app that does their writing justice or bring back the ability to read on other apps.

### 1/5 — À éviter

*2026-07-07*

### 1/5 — Complete scam

*2026-06-26*

After purchasing over 50 books over the years . The app updated and removed all my books and GW won’t give them back literally thousands of dollars wasted because of these thieves I would never purchase or recommend any tbh info from them again . As they won’t give you a refund or your products back when they have a error on their end it’s completely crooked and I think illegal

### 1/5 — Overpriced

*2026-06-10*

While E-book pricing is the same as anywhere else the Audiobook pricing is ridiculously overpriced
You can buy the same Audio Books for $10 to $20 cheaper on Audible or Apple Books
The Soul Hunter Audio book by Aaron Dembski-Bowden
Black Library App price $41.99CAD
Audible price $27.36CAD
Apple Books price $23.99CAD

No reason why the same audio book should be $20+ more for going to the source

### 1/5 — Werft ihn raus

*2026-05-19*

### 1/5 — No drm free ebook

*2026-05-19*

It’s hard enough to get physical copies of WH books, so all I wanted was to be able to download a DRM free epub and put it on my ereader of choice. This locks you to the app so you have to read through there. No point in buying on here.

### 1/5 — Achtung, nur App

*2026-05-18*

### 1/5 — This app is terrible.

*2026-05-16*

It’s glitchy and annoying. I can’t change font or text size because it glitches out. I can’t change texts and background colours because it’s just not something you can do with this app. I can’t export books to read them in an app that does not hurt my eyes. It’s just bad and disappointing.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Good start

*2026-03-25*

It’s amusing how many reviews boil down to “not what I want.”

Sure, a sleep timer would be a great addition, and a bit more polish in places wouldn’t hurt. There’s definitely room for improvement, and audiobook pricing isn’t the most competitive.

That said, the app itself is a big step in the right direction and genuinely enjoyable to use. I’d personally rate it 4 stars—but gave it 5 to offset some of the overly negative takes.

### 5/5 — Much better

*2026-03-24*

I’ve seen a big difference. The addition of multiple languages is nice and it’s easier to sort through.

### 5/5 — Very good

*2026-03-21*

I got bribed by 8 free books including associated audiobooks and translated copies. The only thing I have any problem with, is the lack of the ability to listen to the audiobook and read along to the Ebook, first world problems.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2026-03-18*

A wonderful app that lets me listen to audiobooks while destroying Tara’s defenses❤️

### 4/5 — Sufficient But Needs Improving

*2026-04-21*

Its a book/reader app. Nothing new there.

However.

1.) I would like the option to scroll vertically while I read. Every other reading app has that feature.

2.) Bookmarking. Whenever I close the app, and come back later to read, it does not remember where I left off. I have to hunt for the page most times.

3.) More customization options. Screen tint. Font color. Little adjustments to make reading on a screen more comfortable. Every other reader has it. Why not this one?

### 4/5 — Good start, improvement required

*2026-04-05*

A good start for GW

I have only used the E Book option so far and I use my phone when on the go and my iPad when at home. It doesn’t synchronise between the two (a feature of kindle that up until now, I have taken for granted)

Being really picky I would love it if you could just tap the far right of the screen to go to the next page but the swipe is by all means manageable.

I wanted to report this in app to not publicise this as there is an option in the settings menu but it wouldn’t allow me to click on it 😂😂😂 Perhaps an issue that requires a fix?

A huge positive was that the E Book versions were a lot cheaper on here vs Amazon

Just some minor modifications to improve reader experience

### 4/5 — Great steps Forward

*2026-03-21*

This is a great ap for BL fans. But, one thing I see missing is a “Reading/Listening Now” button. Having to scroll back down your library is a pain. But this is a Great Leap Forward, integrating the purchases from the website to the app is long overdue.

### 4/5 — Solid reader, room for improvement

*2026-03-18*

Please add a ‘resume reading’ tab as it’s a bit annoying having to scroll down to the book in my library each time I open the app. Otherwise, it’s working well for me.

### 4/5 — Ok

*2026-03-18*

Pretty good overall has some areas that need improvement. Some key features that would help are a removal button for books due to myself adding some French books even though I can’t read French and when clicking the titles of other books at the beginning of reading, it will take you to the website book not the app book. It also needs some improvement for reading such as the ability to turn to a night mode so yours aren’t bleached at night.

### 3/5 — Still needs a lot of work

*2026-06-30*

The app crashed/shut down my phone twice (actually caused me to be late for work because I had taken a nap before my shift while I was listening to one of the stories, and it shut down my phone!)
Also, how are you gonna charge $10 for the pdf and then charge $31 for the audiobook?!
