If you put this app in full screen and rotate your phone back to portrait, the video disappears into the void. Black screen. No warning. No other option to restarting the app. The “live” stream is also several minutes behind reality. So if anyone on your kid’s team updates the score via text, TeamSnap, or carrier pigeon, congratulations — the game is spoiled before the puck even drops on your screen. At this point, watching hockey on BlackBear TV feels like time travel, but only in the wrong direction. I would genuinely rather walk through Target with my wife and discuss throw pillows than attempt to watch another game on this app. If you love the feeling you get one a vending machine doesn’t give you the snack you paid for I recommend you download this app and subscribe. Five stars for scamming thousands of parents out of a monthly subscription fee. One star for literally everything else. ### 1/5 — Awful *2025-12-21* This app doesn’t work well, can’t zoom, no sounds, kicks you out. Not to mention to actually watch a game, you need a subscription and then certain games are even more on top of that. A year of watching glitchy, soundless games will cost $500 or more. Oh, and if the game isn’t scheduled with them, you can’t watch the rink / ice. Reach out to customer support, they say it is all good on their side and it is on you with no refund. It is a shame, people wanting to watch their kids sports and Black Bear is just screwing people. I wish these rinks still had livebarn, you could watch practices, scrimmages and games, all for the subscription cost. This organization is just trying to screw people and make a to of $$. ### 1/5 — don’t film jv game *2025-12-16* my son was very proud of his game and and got the game winning goal on his jv game. He went to go look on black bear and there was just no jv games only varisty. I loved being able to go and look at practices, fun skates, or even beer league games I’d substitute in-But that’s just not the case here. The cameras record only a very few specific events and turn off for everything else. This is pure trash. I sometimes try to watch the games and your start time is wrong or you broadcast from the wrong rink at a multi complex facility. I love the HD and the better auto panoramic but your search function is the worst. It’s relies on the rink to capture the video and most of these rinks are in areas with the most unstable networks. Game hardly ever play right if they show them at all. On top of that, the $$ you have to pay to watch games that your kid is playing on is ridiculous, especially when you’re already paying so much for them just to play! It’s no coincidence that the same guy that owns USPHL is the same guy that owns BlackBear. I paid $15 to watch my son play today and the connection was awful the screen kept freezing and I got kicked off a few times. No sound whatsoever. I tried it on my phone and also on my computer no sound on either one of them. Sent an email to technical and got a response that their connection was working fine. What a rip off. Ended up having to find a live feed that somebody was doing for free so that I could get sound and watch the game at the same time. There is no standard of quality in regards to either the site crashing, the feed not working, audio, etc. they always blame the home rink yet we have tried to watch 5 different rinks and they all have the same issue. You either stand by your product and have a minimum standard or you don’t.
