Since then, my password isn’t working and there’s no “forgot password” or customer service link. Nothing. I’ve tried every password I can think of. I’ve tried deleting and reloading the app. I’ve tried setting up a new account, which it blocks, saying I already have one. I’ve tried emailing Blackboard with no response. This is truly a terrible app and a total waste of valuable time. Searching function is awful, can’t click on emergency notification option when I eventually did find what I was looking for and the app crashes every few minutes. What does that mean? I tried every number and contact info that I could think of that might be “on file”. Once you enter the Search feature, the only way out is to kill the app. More annoying, the requirement to have your iPhones Location Services on to use the app. I have an older phone and Location Services is a drag on the battery life. If I have subscribed, what does Location Services have to do with getting school generated alerts? Where I am, or the app knowing where I am at that moment, should NEVER keep me from getting an alert. I will stick to web portal through my child’s school system website. Consolidated text, email and phone subscriptions make this a must for me. the Tour at the beginning of the App makes it easy to learn ( not that it is complicated). ### 4/5 — Understanding the App *2015-08-10, version 1.4* This App was developed with a lot of different people in mind. From Senior Citizens who want notifications of Emergencies in their area to parents who would like to be notified of upcoming school events to college students and staff that need to be notified of situations on campus. The nice thing about the App, and the MyConnect Portal, is the registrant can set up their subscription notification to their preference. If they'd like to get Outreach messages sent to their personal e-mail, it's easy to set up. It's not a "super-techy" App with a lot of bells and whistles. And it is not meant to be. You have to look at the millions of people with different technology skills when building an App like this. It was developed to be easy to sign up, easy to follow and use. If you can't find your Community/School/University, then they may not have activated the App, are not using the MyConnect Portal, or don't have Blackboard Connect. The "Search" function could be enchanced, but if you use the "%keyword" formula (i.e. - "%Academy), you will most likely find what you need. There are 8 Academies using the App. I know....that is a little high level techy, but I'm trying to help. As to the "location services" part of the App. This is dependent on several things: 1) Location Services on your device being activated (agreed when activating the app, or you can go to Settings) 2) Being registered in the portal of the client that is sending the message (we don't want to bother you with someone else's messages) 3) The message sender activating the geo-devices in the user interface when sending the mesage. This is managed through Blackboard Connect's Mapping Function. As you can tell, I have first-hand knowledge of this App and product, but am not officially speaking for the company. I know that the people I work with have the best interests of the Recipients when it comes to Emergency notifications. ### 4/5 — Soooo good but remember me needs to work *2013-01-20, version 1.0* Like I said. It's a great app. The push notification showed up before I get the text or call. I do wish the "remember me" feature actually worked. My email is a pain keep typing. ### 3/5 — Not obvious interface *2014-09-20, version 1.4* Just signed up, no alerts yet, but signing up was a lesson in patience and guesswork. I never figured that part would be so frustrating. But I'm in, and after more misses, finally figured out how to sign up for an alert. whew. exhausting... ### 2/5 — Crash issues *2021-02-17, version 1.5* App keeps crashing every time I add an update — whether I add my info (address, email, etc) or add an institution. So, I can’t seem to add my address. I was able to follow my city government and got a text that I was signed up for alerts. Here’s hoping this app was just a vehicle for signing up and I’ll be able to get text alerts without needing this app again. ### 2/5 — Primative *2014-07-15, version 1.4* The app has a very simple UI that forces the user down a small number of paths to get things done. NOT suggested for mobile use because it actively checks its internet connection and logs you out when it decides it can't get online even for an instant. It does have auto-re-login (a feature that should not be necessary with proper connection timeout defaults) but upon re-establishing connection, whatever data you may have been entering is lost. The user must use their email address to log in, so they have that contact point. The user may also add SMS, phone and TTY contact points. This last is presumably why Blackboard are awarded government contracts. Push notifications are treated differently than SMS, voice or TTY notifications, which is confusing. Emergency alerts are hard-wired to alert all your contact methods and cannot be changed. Although some thought clearly has gone into this app and the infrastructure that supports it, it is clear that they have a way to go before customer satisfaction can be achieved. Disclosure: These are initial impressions given the moment after I signed up. I only have a relationship with one of the supported organizations. ### 2/5 — Not intuitive *2013-09-24, version 1.3.0* This might be a good app; I can't tell. It is in no way intuitive.
