## What is Blackjack Trainer?

Blackjack Trainer teaches you the mathematically correct way to play blackjack, one hand at a time.

Every recommendation in this app is basic strategy: the provably optimal play for every hand, verified against a reference expected-value engine, not gut feel or folklore. Play practice hands at a first-person table with a dealer, get instant feedback the moment you act, and learn exactly why a play is right or wrong in plain English.

WHY BASIC STRATEGY
Basic strategy is the set of mathematically optimal decisions for every blackjack hand, worked out through exhaustive computer analysis of the game's probabilities. Playing it perfectly doesn't guarantee any single hand goes your way, but it is the mathematically strongest way to play, every single hand. This app exists to help that strategy become second nature, through repetition and clear explanations, so you can play with confidence.

RULE-AWARE, NOT ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL
Correct blackjack strategy changes with the table rules, and this app adapts to match:
- Dealer hits or stands on soft 17 (H17 / S17)
- 1, 2, 4, 6, or 8 deck shoes
- Double after split allowed or not
- Late surrender available or not

Change any of these in Settings and every recommendation updates to match, because the correct play for a 16 against a dealer's 10 is not the same at every table.

LEARN BY PLAYING
- A living practice table with a dealer, a real deck of cards, and subtle table motion that makes practice feel real
- Instant feedback after every decision, with a plain-English explanation of why a play is correct or incorrect
- Short "Remember" mnemonic cards that reinforce the pattern behind a decision, not just the answer
- A full basic strategy Chart tab you can flip through any time, color-coded and organized by hard totals, soft totals, and pairs
- A Learn tab with lessons and drill packs targeted at your weakest spots, built from your own mistakes and lowest-mastery cells
- A Progress tab with an accuracy ring, a trend sparkline, a mastery heatmap across every hand and dealer upcard, and streak tracking

EDUCATION, NOT GAMBLING
This is a study tool, not a gambling app. There is no real money and no virtual currency. There are no chips, no bets, no bankroll, and no payouts: nothing is staked, and nothing is won or lost. You practice decisions and the app grades them, exactly the way a chess tactics trainer grades moves.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Blackjack Trainer works completely offline. There's no account, no sign-up, and no internet connection required. Your progress is stored only on your device. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no analytics, and no third-party tracking of any kind.

Whether you're brushing up before a friendly game, getting ready for a trip, or just curious what the "correct" play actually is, Blackjack Trainer turns basic strategy from a chart you memorize into a skill you actually build.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.1.0 — 2026-08-17

NEW: Count tab. Learn the Hi-Lo running count, see how counting changes between single-deck, double-deck, and shoe tables, and train it with three drills: card by card, a timed deck countdown, and true count conversion.

Every post-hand coaching note now describes the exact hand you played.

A new opening animation.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-08-02

This update fixes the coaching text, which in some hands described a different play than the one the app recommends.

EXPLANATIONS
- The explanation under a hand now always describes the play the app actually recommends. Previously some hands could show reasoning for a different move, so a hand the book says to hit could read "double down".
- Soft 19 and soft 20 are no longer described as "soft 18".
- A hand that is already over on the deal, when either you or the dealer turns over a blackjack, now says what happened instead of only showing the result.
- Nine, ten and eleven now explain why a spot is a plain hit rather than a doubling spot.

LESSONS
- The surrender lesson named a hand that is not a surrender. Corrected, with a note on why the dealer card decides the cell.
- The doubling lesson used a blackjack as its example of an eleven. Corrected.
- The split eights lesson now covers the late surrender exception against a dealer ace.

SOUND
- Hit, stand, double, split and surrender each give you feedback the moment you tap them.
- The insurance prompt had no sound or haptic at all. It does now.

ALSO
- A cleaner explanation panel that no longer cuts off longer reasons.
- Coach marks no longer point at an action row on a hand that is already over.
