Setup was easy and updating the smoker’s firmware was smooth. The app works, but man are they missing some easy win opportunities here. Integrate recipes that can set time/temp variables, have a chart that plots temp over time (we track the stall, ya’ll!), alerts could be better, and I’d love to be able to see the same info in a web browser on my desktop while I’m working from home. It’s been 5 months since an update, Blackstone! Chop, chop! ### 2/5 — What Happened? *2026-01-30, version 2.2.1* When I first downloaded this app it was pretty bad, basically useless. I could get an accurate temperature reading but only after rebooting the app. Then it got better, the temperature alerts were very helpful. With the last update it’s gone back to how it first was for me, basically useless. Not receiving alerts on reaching temp for the smoker or the probe, have to force close and reopen it to get it to work. I think I’ll move on to a third party temperature monitoring setup. ### 3/5 — Okay app *2026-01-12, version 2.2.0* Works to set and actively monitor temps. Won’t remain connected throughout the cook. Distance is not a factor as I remain within 15 feet the whole time. It takes a little time to get there, but once it’s there…it HOLDS!! The app doesn’t have any ‘tracking’ to see things like start time, temperature ramp and intervals. For price paid and in light of the competitions controllers, they are far behind. Build quality and operating features are very good. Simple and effective. But if you want an app that is as good as the product…look at…? ### 2/5 — Need probe histogram *2025-04-27, version 2.1.20* Definitely need to be able to give probes custom names. Also probe temp graph should be available for the duration of the cook so you can visibly tell when meat has hit plateau. Also there should be some kind of alarming function for when probe temps are reached. ### 4/5 — Recent updates *2025-04-17, version 2.1.20* I was very worried after reading many of the reviews of this app. I’m using this with the new BRONCO pellet grill, and my experience hasn’t been perfect, but much better than I was expecting. Connectivity can be spotty, but not as bad as others have expressed. I will say that connecting the grill to Wifi and then using cellular data vs Wifi or Bluetooth on your phone has the best uninterrupted connection. The interphase is OK. I would like to see some improvements in the near future: - More significant alarming options, the notifications are not “alarm” style, and could be easily missed. Make it like an alarm clock - able to wake someone from a nap, for example. - Ability to set alarms around the grills internal temperature probe, which would be extremely helpful in the case of significant tempature rise or falls, such as a flame out. Controlling the temp of the pellet grill, checking temps of the items. All great! Except connectivity is lacking consistency, both logging into the app, as well as the app to the device. A useless feature that Blackstone needs to upgrade for the cost of this XL Combo! ### 2/5 — Needs some serious updating *2024-12-24* Last update was 7 months ago. It loses connection easily. The grill cooks amazingly well but the app is garbage. Wish the developer would update it because it could be a great. I’ve had the Traeger pro 22, the ironwood 650 and the timberline. This grill is easy and cooks better than all three traeger… but their app sets them apart.. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — The app got worse *2025-07-18, version 2.1.26* It reloaded on my phone and now it endlessly keeps searching for my grill. 👎 ### 1/5 — Won’t connect to WiFi *2025-07-04, version 2.1.26* This app makes you type in your network name and not just search for you to select, and thus it doesn’t want to connect to my WiFi. In 100% sure I’m typing everything correct, yet it doesn’t want to connect. Would be nice so I can monitor cooks while I’m gone. Should have just kept the traeger. ### 1/5 — Connectivity and hopper design *2025-06-15, version 2.1.23* I own a 22" XL Griddle Pellet Grill Combo. I’ll start with the hopper. The design has a flaw that allows the pellets to stack up on the sides and while I put almost 40 pounds of pellets in it, they stack on the sides and only a small portion feeds into the hopper. This has caused incidents where I run out of pellets, as in the hopper is still 3/4 full but the auger is empty and lost its prime so the fire has gone out. On to the connectivity issue. I have owned the grill for about a year now and not once, with all the ‘fixes’ and work around a I’ve read about and tried, has it connected to WiFi. I don’t know if it’s a grill issue or an app issue but one of the main reasons I bought this grill was to have WiFi connection to monitor temps as I continue my busy life. I wish I had the luxury of sitting down and checking the grill every 15 minutes but that’s not possible for me and the reason I bought a grill with WiFi and notification to let me know when things were getting done. ### 1/5 — Did this ever work? *2025-05-25, version 2.1.23* First purchase of a Blackstone and I figured they have had products for a while so the app should work right? I’ve had no luck only when a few feet away and at that distance I can see the temps on the screen. They need a major update or to have a product with more range with Bluetooth. ### 1/5 — Ruined it with Recent Update *2025-02-22, version 2.1.6* You guys ruined every part of the functionality of this app. Since the update, my pellet grill will not recognize the app or vice averse. The app won’t even recognize that the grill is even anywhere near my phone so I can connect via Bluetooth. The app worked (barely) before, but now, it’s not even usable. Before, I could at least turn my grill on (it wouldn’t notify that target temps were reached), but it would at least turn on! Now it seriously blows. For a company willing to take $1,200 from someone and not even have a functioning app, is ballsy to say the least. GET IT TOGETHER.
