Erstmal ist es natürlich cool, dass es endlich ein Update mit neuen Wörtern gibt. Macht echt Spaß. Was wirklich toll wäre: entweder Werbung ganz weg, oder gegen In-App-Kauf. Und vielleicht wäre eine Anbindung ans Game Center auch nicht verkehrt. Würde den Wettbewerb steigern. I like this concept. However, I've had this app for a couple of weeks and on at least 5 occasions, I've selected the correct word only to receive a red X. I then click the 3 incorrect words accumulating 3 more red Xes and finally return to my original - correct- answer and it is accepted. Meanwhile I've accumulated 4 BAD points. That's not right! That's a correctible bug, yes? Also, I think u should set this up as a game. Player can choose a 25, 50, 75, or 100 word game format. Perhaps u also let players choose game time length (2 - 5 - 10 minutes). And perhaps you even let player accumualate points (good and bad) Here's the important part, at the end of each game the player can choose to review all of the correct words and their definitions in the just completed game. Sometimes I choose the correct word only because I know that it's not one of the other three! But that really doesn't help me learn the word. This makes it too easy and annoying. ### 1/5 — Wordnet may be the problem *2009-02-09, version 0* This is a cute application, but they should use a different source of definitions. Some are okay for dictionaries but not for word games as they make use of different forms of the same word: eg "using deference" has the answer "deferential" - well, duh. Other definitions, as another reviewer has remarked, are inaccurate or wrong: eg, a "patient" is not a person needing but a person receiving medical treatment. This may seem picky given the application is free, but it's not the money. The English language deserves better than this. ### 1/5 — Gives you the wrong definitions *2008-10-09, version 0* First of all, it gives you the incorrect definitions for MANY of the words. For example, "Namely" does not mean "as follows" it means "to be more specific" or "that is to say." Second of all, it uses the word that you are trying to define in the definition, which defeats the entire purpose of the game. Firstly, the distractors (wrong alternatives) are random, resulting at times in items that are too easy. Secondly, when being wrong you only get a red "X". There no explanation, no stats, no score. My biggest complaint, though, is the poor clues. The words are challenging, but the clues often don't quite fit. The clues that obviously announce the answer make a lot of these questions pointless, and too many of the remaining clues, while not obviously wrong, seem a bit “off” or eccentric. These educational apps are 1) Very helpful in aiding with classroom discussion on a wide variety of subject matter; 2) Fun projects for students to do; and 3) A good source of educational "thinking fuel"in general! The BLANKS app seems to smear the strict demarcation line between the instructor and their class, because it challenges not only the student, but faculty as well! BLANKS is guaranteed to broaden your vocabulary base and, stimulate your deductive reasoning skills as well. I play it often and learn a few more words. It is amusing at times because you have to randomly select words if you don't know them. Often, I have found out the right word by common prefixs and synonyms.
