Being able to self tour places all using this app to enter made it so convenient. When I finally found the place for me I was able to come back again and really make sure. 10/10 would recommend using this over StreetEasy!!! ### 5/5 — So much easier than dealing with NYC realtors *2022-10-04, version 1.8.5* I stumbled upon block.a because it was requested by a realtor that I used it to book an apartment tour. I’d never heard of the app and when I downloaded it I realized it was actually a super user friendly app for searching for apartments as well. The directions were very clear and I had a good experience with the block.a support team as well. You schedule a time, they send a calendar invite so it is easy to keep track of things. Would highly recommend. It’s such a convenient and time saving way to view an apartment, especially when you are working and don’t have time during the day. I have one suggestion for the app, when I click on a listing I can’t make the pictures bigger and neither do they rotate sideways when I rotate my phone. Both the broker and management company were super responsive and available to answer any questions I had. It irked me because I worked hard to save up money to afford NYC. Block.a saved me time and money. By simply downloading the app, you are able to schedule apartment viewings at times that are most convenient for you without having to also coordinate a time with an agent or broker. This is a huge plus in terms of schedule flexibility. The app is very streamlined, safe, and easy to use, with clear instructions on how to access properties. Moreover, the customer service is very responsive and helpful. Overall, I’ve been very impressed with this app and hope to see more and more rentals use it. Great experience ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Awful and weird experience *2023-11-09* I did two tours for apartments through this app. One was scheduled with a tenant and the other was a self guided tour. Seemed like a really cool idea but both went very badly. First apartment, the tenants who were supposed to show me the unit didn’t answer their door and I had no way to contact them directly or even know who they were. The number for the real estate agent went to voicemail and their customer service gave me a very vague apology with no solution, so I left even though I made the trip all the way there for a scheduled viewing. To be honest with my feelings, the self guided tour was a little sketchy, as a single woman just entering a random apartment building at night. The instructions for getting into the building were very poorly written and it took me a long time to get inside and find which apartment it was. I don’t really like this experience because you can’t ask questions to a real estate agent as you’re touring it on your own. Landlords and agencies are getting really lazy these days using this app to fill their apartments. It was a massive waste of time so I don’t think I’ll be using this app again. ### 2/5 — Cool concept, poor and sloppy execution *2021-10-13, version 1.4.12* If it were actually possible to see the available units advertised on their app, Knock would be great. Unfortunately you will not be able to view many of the available apartments listed on their app, And will actually waste hours of your time commuting to apartments that don’t even have the Knock cylinder lock installed to open the door. This has happened to me 4-5 times already. ### 3/5 — Easy app to use, but not always up-to-date *2022-06-20, version 1.7.11* Definitely easy to navigate and what’s great is that someone almost always responds to you super quickly—but it’s a little challenging to know when apartments have open houses without constantly checking the app. I did find my apartment on here though! ### 4/5 — Helpful Apartment Hunting Tool *2023-08-27* I’m writing this review as I was pretty nervous about downloading this and using it having read some of the past reviews but two apartments I found in NYC required it to tour. I eventually did it and although I didn’t love having to upload photos of my license everything else was fine. I booked and attended a viewing which all went well. And you can see other places available, book on tours, get notified when more tours become available, contact agents etc. ### 4/5 — Best App ! *2022-10-13, version 1.8.8* I honestly loved the unit and the self touring experience of block.a ! This experience allowed me to personalize my tour and really take my time looking at the unit. When it’s an open house with multiple people you can’t really get a true feel of the apartment. I loved the space, the finishes, location of the unit and the exterior of the building. It has a lot of character and it was easy to apply. Definitely recommend ### 5/5 — Great app! Easy touring! *2024-01-08* I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the block.a app. My roommates and I have been scheduling tours, and we have often had to schedule several in one day due to our busy schedules. This app allowed us to tour these apartments on our own time and not worry about making an appointment. Additionally, we were able to spend as long as we wanted in the apartment taking measurements, discussing what we liked about it, and determining if it was the right fit for us. The only downside is not being able to ask questions to a leasing agent while you’re in the apartment, but our agent was very helpful when we emailed them a list of questions after the fact. ### 5/5 — Incredible, Refreshing Apartment Rental Experience *2023-12-14* I’ve been living in NYC for a decade. Having dealt with a range of real estate folks across several different apartments, I can confidently say MAPT Residential are one of the most professional, diligent, trustworthy organizations you’ll find. This app was so easy to use, from submitting an application early, to a self-guided tour of my new place. There’s a lot of garbage out there. So convenient for any working human, I work weekends and 7am-7pm so blocka was perfect for me because I can have access to go into any apartment on my own. I also don’t typically have time to tour when leasing agents or realtors are available, so this app was useful to me.
