That said, this is a great sequel to bloom, with a simpler, more intuitive interface and the ‘play’ function let’s you sit back and enjoy a new palette of music no one has ever heard before - or will again. ### 4/5 — Needs more base tones *2020-01-29, version 1.1* Would be nice to have a bass world ### 4/5 — Great improvement over the previous version *2019-10-29, version 1.1* Digging it. I still find the app disappointing when compared to the excellent Scape. There is almost no control over the initial input and none whatsoever over the generative process. Thank you very much, developers! It now feels like a nice little ambient audio experiment while I do other things on my iPhone, which is lovely. Thank you. It makes some nice tranquil sounds I would like to listen to without staring at the screen, but the playback halts immediately when app goes to background. Including when in autoplay and timer mode, no background audio possible! Thank you for the great update. ### 5/5 — Reinventing the wheel for a 3rd or 4th time *2019-02-28, version 1.1* Brian Eno was one of the first people to popularise the idea of the generative record: a sequence of sounds that while containing similar motifs and timing, would never be the same sequence twice. Technology of the 70s-90s made this feat hard to accomplish outside of an installation setting, but “apps” and the proliferation of mobile phones and tablets (computers in your pockets) have enabled this idea to become very accessible in the 21st century. The original Bloom was a great idea, but limited in mood and texture; “Bloom 10: worlds” enables the listener to navigate 10 environments that correspond to their mood at the time. When this released I was frustrated by the lack of background play; the visual aspect of this app is great, but sometimes I merely want it to play in the background like a little musical automaton while I write or do some other task which requires concentration. I hate giving anything a maximum rating because it seems almost sycophantic, but when you add the cherry on top of what was already a fine piece of cake like Bloom it seems unacceptable not to. Good job Eno/Chilvers. The developer always tries to respond to user complaints / concerns in a way that I believe Bloom: 10 worlds will continue to improve. ### 5/5 — Brian Eno 🙌🏼 *2019-02-27* Awesome . Brian Eno is a Master Like no other ### 4/5 — Thank you for the background audio. *2019-02-26, version 1.1* The next thing on my wish list would be to be able to control the “density” (how close together the notes are sounded). Air had this functionality. In that way, the sounds could be more “sparse” - for meditative purposes. Oh, and to those that want it to be like Scape - well it’s called Bloom 10 - Scape 10 is three years away! But seriously, perhaps in the meantime, the developers could make a “combination mode” where a person picks a sound from one of the ten Bloom worlds, places it on the screen, then chooses the next sound, places it, etc. That would certainly introduce considerably more variety. Then again, perhaps that is just not what Eno/Chilvers intended this app to be. Peace. ### 5/5 — Bloom x 10 *2019-02-23, version 1.1* Mesmerising. Another triumph for the Eno/Chilvers team who never disappoint. I have all of their apps - generative music is something of a must for me. Bloom was always the cleanest and purest and what they’ve done with this app is take that essential quality and multiplied it ten-fold with new textures and innovative mechanics. Lovely stuff and, yes, background play would be great but I love this for what it is in itself - the graphics are beautifully rendered and executed. Background audio at last! Twice as good. Apple TV a possibility? More please! ### 3/5 — BG Audio update *2019-02-23, version 1.1* Wow, going into their code and checking a box for adding background play only took 2.5 months. Review improved to 3 stars as a result. A nice revisit of Bloom, but absolutely pales next to the scope and ambition of Scape, which I honestly thing may be Brian Eno's most impressive work of all. ### 5/5 — Hours of exploration... or just let it calm you down *2019-02-23, version 1.1* Really impressed with this update to an already great app, in my previous review I made a few suggestions for improvement and this version includes every single thing I asked for. I use some of the worlds as background music while learning, working and sleeping. This one does not. I love the music but if this is how it’s going to be, I’ll be requesting a refund. As it is, this app is almost useless. I *never* just sit and stare at my iPhone like this app requires. Hopefully the dev will act quickly and fix this massive misstep very quickly. 5 star review awaits the background function. ### 2/5 — AirPlay? *2019-01-25, version 1.0* Not only does this not work in the background, it won’t play via AirPlay either, so unless you physically plug it in you’ll have the settle with listening through your iPad speakers. ### 2/5 — Failing To Bloom for me *2018-12-25, version 1.0* I love the original Bloom. It had some gentle background chords as you played. This doesn’t, it’s quite flat in comparison and I can’t use it anywhere in my compositions. It’s not compatible with AUM or Audiobus. It doesn’t play in the background. I thought it might be possible to play a few of the ‘worlds’ together, but no. I also like rotating to landscape view for when I want to choose where sounds fall in the stereo field. I only wish I could watch this app on my AppleTV like I’ve done with Reflection, because this one is so aesthetically appealing (I recognize that’s a big ask, as AppleTV maybe doesn’t lend itself to the interactivity that iPhone or iPad offer). ### 5/5 — Fantastic *2020-07-08, version 1.1* After several months enjoying this app I must pay my respect to the creators Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers. I’ve been using this app for various reasons: to get inspiration for a new song, to explore all the possibilities (many), to relax and meditate, to calm my pets. At times I will hit the play button and let AI play for me for hours at length. Of all the 10 Worlds my favorite are Petri, Karabekian and Mull. Some of the sounds are a bit harsh, while others remind me of Tibetan bells and such. Definitely an app to have whether you’re a musician or not. ### 5/5 — Another fine music creation app *2020-04-12, version 1.1* Another fine music creation app. At first I wasn’t sure about it compared to Bloom but once I got into its structure everything clicked into place. Great for relaxing during a lockdown! ### 5/5 — Endless variations *2019-10-29, version 1.1* I am only a few hours into using Bloom but it’s a fascinating app. If you have any interest at all into Eno’s ambient music, I urge you to give Bloom a try. The sound choices are vast and the visuals perfectly complement the music. Essentially you are generating a note by touching the screen. Said note decays and repeats for a period of time. Choose one or two notes, add to those, use two three or four fingers to get chords almost. Different areas of the screen give you different note choices. It’s endless. 10 different screens to choose as well. All with different musics. It’s gorgeous and addictive !!! ### 5/5 — Nice app ... *2019-03-28, version 1.1* ... It now plays in the background! Yaah! My only other very minor criticism is that some of the sounds on some of the worlds come in abruptly and harsh at times. I found this app a nice complement to the entire series of apps by Brian Eno. For instance, tap the screen with some good spacing between the notes in the “Mull” #5 World and you get something vaguely that reminds me of the “Music for Airports“ algorithm. Using the same world, if you tap rapidly with several fingers (densely) across the whole screen, you get something like a cascading harp effect ... somewhat reminiscent like that on the “Ambient 3: Day of Radiance” album. Out of all Eno’s apps, I still like the “Scape“ app the best. It is even more interactive whereby you can build your own other worldly sound scapes. If I were to suggest anything to the developers, I would say look at making a Scapes 2 type app that was different and would complement the first one. (BTW, I am STILL trying to figure out what heck the question mark slider does! Does this mean we get two stars back? ;) ### 5/5 — Love it *2019-03-21, version 1.1* I love this app. The added richness over the original Bloom app really makes for great listening and playing. I enjoy that each “world” is revealed only after you’ve experienced the prior ones. It’s a nice touch that encourages listening over “world surfing”.
