Description:- This app uses a database of parking locations by kind permission of Dan Gibson at “BlueBadgeParking.com”. After the initial launch of app, if you don’t have cellular connection it uses the last version saved. When launched, app looks for nearest spaces to your location based on Search Radius selected in ‘Settings’ (default 2 miles / 3 kms). Map tab:- The circular ‘Zoom’ button toggles between 3 views, Zoom just nearby locations or your location & all nearby locations & if a pin is selected then it zooms right into just that location. The pin flag has a blue ‘i’ & if you touch that a menu appears with Navigation Options. Searching other Towns:- In the main ‘Map’ tab, touch the search box at the top & you can enter not only a Town or City but also Post or Zip codes or What3Words. List tab:- The list which is sorted so nearest to you or if you used the search box then nearest that location is at the top. Parking locations are within same Search Radius as Map. If your location has changed then ‘pull’ list down ‘to refresh’ distances & locations. If you would like to view a particular location just touch description & ‘Map’ tab opens with that location shown. Notify tab (The following features will be added soon):- This tab lets you Add, Edit, Move or Delete locations. The Mark & Favourite options do fully work allowing users to Mark a location temporally & the Favourite is a more permanent option & remembered even after a Full Database downloaded. Settings tab:- This tab lets you change the search radius, distance units, enable / disable Beep Sounds, Delete ‘Marked’ which has 4 options, Enable Shake feature, Disable Screen Auto Lock, Larger Display changes size of text & some controls, Zoom with Satellite view, display all Favourite in List Tab, Use Map Pan & Shake in Map Tab which has 3 options. These settings are remembered when the app is closed, ready for next time. Short Cuts:- There are 3 functions that use the ‘Shake’ facility which means when you shake your iDevice firmly, it will trigger one of these:- 1/ In Map tab If there are parking location pins visible, it zooms into nearest. You can then touch zoom button which temporally switches to Satellite view. 2/ Notify tab After shaking iDevice a Menu appears with 3 options. A/ ‘Add’, ‘Quick’ or ‘Favourite’ location which at present work but you can’t update the database directly. B/ “’Mark’ Location on Map” this drops a pin on the map where you are standing, so if you are stood by your vehicle it helps you find it again later. The flag includes road name, current Date & Time to act as a reminder if parking time is limited. You can add as many of these as you want & ‘Discard’ them individually or if enabled in Settings, app will automatically remove them after the chosen delay. There are 2 compass features in Map:- 1/ Touch & Hold the map & a compass arrow appears, rotate iDevice until arrow with words ‘Device North’ is pointing to the top of the screen. Now pins or Points of Interest are in the direction relative to your screen. 2/ Touch any pin & choose ‘Location Direction’ & a blue arrow appears pointing towards the pin & the Line of Sight distance is shown inside the arrow. These are constantly updated as you walk about, to dismiss arrow, just touch screen. Show Walking Route:- From the Map “Navigation Options” select ‘Show Walking Route’ & app calculates best walking route to the selected pin & displays the actual distance. This feature requires a network connection. Eg put in address and it doesn’t find your destination to see where blue badge spaces are. Needs serious refining like Google maps **Developer response:** Hi. The search feature is limited to a target location using a city / town, What3Words, a postcode or latitude and longitude. To try and search for individual roads, I would find programming very difficult for me to do. I wonder whether you tried using the Blue Badge parking online map system created by Dan Gibson the original creator of the listings, there is a link at the bottom of the Settings tab to his website. Terrible UI *2024-11-12* As a software engineer and recently disabled person I thought I’d try this app. First of the all the search is rubbish. I typed in the name of a bar (“bar 91”) in Glasgow and It couldn’t find it. To know it hasn’t been found you have to notice a pop up at the very bottom of the screen, not below the search bar as is standard in all UIs. It then removed the space in the search query so it said “bar91”. Why would it edit my search? Leave it alone!! The typing is also sluggish as if it’s doing a lookup on the same thread. I then tried the post code and you are then presented with a zoomed out view of most of the city instead of the actual post code you’ve searched for. Now what do you do? How do you find that post code you’ve searched for? Well apparently, and very confusingly, to actually find that postcode on the map you have to look carefully for a yellow icon saying “Search town”! No idea why it would say this as when you click on it, it certainly doesn’t search the town to find the postcode (Glasgow is actually a city anyway, why is it talking about towns). What on earth does “search town” mean if the button doesn’t do anything? So once you’ve found this yellow icon with the confusing name you have to carefully zoom in on it to find that postcode. Why doesn’t this all happen automatically? Why make it difficult for disabled people. Why add in the extra steps? I’m guessing this was written by a non English speaker or someone that isn’t used to doing front end work but it really needs reworked to be of any use. **Developer response:** Hi Is123457. Reply UPDATE So I now have a chance to reply in detail. 1/ Although my app uses Apple Maps it doesn’t include a location facilities as the intension is to find Disable parking in an area using any of the following methods:- a City, Town, Postcode, What 3 Words or latitude & longitude. 2/ The reason it deleted the space in the middle of your search phrase is it ‘thought’ your text was a postcode because it contained alphanumeric characters. In earlier version of iOS searches failed if postcodes had a space, so I added code to remove this spaces. I have now found out following your review that this is not needed now and I have removed the code from my next update. 3/ The yellow search map pin was in my original version of the app but over the years I have added meny search options and never changed the words, I have now revisited this and changed the wording to ‘Search Area’. 4/ I think the reason the “yellow icon with the confusing name you have to carefully zoom in on it to find that postcode” is you have set the ‘Search Radius’ far too large when in a large city, personally, I use the minimum distance which is 0.25 km. If you have any more questions please contact me using the support button. My original reply So many questions I don’t know where to start. What I would like to say is yes my UI knowledge is limited because as a self-taught software developer who’s working life was a mechanical design engineer, so any help you can offer I will gladly accept. I suggest you email me using the support button in settings. I will then try to explain my reasons for the design and work together to improve my app. Two other points, I am Visually Impaired so that may have influenced some of my design decisions and secondly I am British and live in the UK. Andrew ### 2/5 — Poor functioning *2024-04-26* I got this recently and perhaps it’s because my phone is quite old but this app is useless. It doesn’t have a street search either. The app is designed to search an area for possible Blue Badge parking spaces not a particular road. You can type in a town / city name, postcode , latitude & longitude or the new “what 3 words” and if there are any within the search radius you have set, it will display them. If you can find any of these details and there are locations it will find them. If you give me the name of the road you are trying to locate I will try and help. Used it on a visit to busy London street was able to park right next to dentist I needed. Unfortunately there is no central body monitoring or publishing disabled parking spaces in the UK.
