I've been using dictation for years, and I've tried them all. This one is clearly very well thought out as it does some key things that the others don't, which I really appreciate (swipe keyboard, text replacement s, and quick verbal edits). ### 1/5 — Keeps your microphone on in the background even when you aren’t typing, major privacy issue *2026-05-21* This app makes your keep the microphone on even when you don’t have the keyboard open. My understanding is that this is how they get around apples restrictions which don’t let you use microphones in the keyboard directly, but this is a major privacy concern as the microphone is just continuously running even when you aren’t typing. **Developer response:** Hey, thanks for downloading our app and giving it a try! This is actually a configurable setting, so you could choose to have the mic close right after each dictation by tapping on the settings button on the top left-hand of your keyboard → dictation → disable dictation session immediately (rather than keeping the five-minute default). The reason we do this is for your convenience so you don't have to keep swiping back to our app to open the microphone for back-to-back dictations. In fact, our power users actually prefer to extend the default from five minutes to either one hour or twelve hours so they don't have to keep swiping back. Also, the audio from the microphone being on in the background never leaves your device and is discarded immediately.
