Bluewater IQ is a predictive fishing map for San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. It pulls the ocean and weather data that actually moves fish — sea-surface temperature, thermal fronts, bathymetry, surface currents, wind, tide and sun — and turns it into a heat map of where conditions look best today, for the species you're after. WHAT IT SHOWS • A daily heat map, per species. Sailfish, yellowfin, mahi, wahoo, roosterfish, cubera, marlin, snook, mackerel and spearfishing each have their own depth, temperature and structure preferences, so each gets its own map — not one map with a filter. • Temperature breaks. The app finds the sharpest sea-surface temperature gradients in today's field and draws them as lines. These are the edges bait stacks on. • Live conditions. SST and its range across the region, wind and sea state, thermocline depth, moon phase, season, and the state of the Costa Rica Thermal Dome and Papagayo upwelling. • Tides and bite times. Today's turns, the current stage, and solunar windows. • A three-day wind forecast, as a go / marginal / no-go strip against a 10-nautical-mile departure gate, blended from several forecast models so you can see where they disagree. • Surface currents, ocean colour, range rings, the Nicaragua–Costa Rica boundary and the local fishing marks. ON THE WATER • Record your track by GPS, including with the screen locked, and export it as GPX, KML or GeoJSON. • Log a catch from a photo. The catch is placed from the photo's own location data and nothing else, so every mark in your log is where the fish actually was — shoot it with the Camera app with location switched on. Photos that arrive with their location stripped, as forwarded pictures usually do, are refused rather than guessed at. The app reads the photo's timestamp and records the sea-surface temperature and nearest mark at that spot. • Helm tools: anchor-drag alarm, distance and bearing back to port, daylight remaining, and a trip timer. • Drop waypoints, and scrub back through archived days to see how conditions have moved. WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM Public sources — NOAA for sea-surface temperature and marine forecasts, Open-Meteo for wind, tide, current and marine models. Conditions refresh daily, and the app always shows the date of the data you're looking at, so you know how fresh the forecast is. Your last download stays available offline. HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS The heat map is a model, not a fish finder. It ranks relative likelihood from conditions; it has not yet been calibrated against catch records, and it will not tell you there are fish somewhere. It is built to narrow down where to look. Bluewater IQ is NOT a navigation aid. Do not use it for piloting, collision avoidance, or in place of official charts and forecasts. Depths shown are model-derived, not surveyed soundings. Carry proper navigation equipment and check official marine forecasts before you leave the dock. Coverage is the Pacific coast of Nicaragua around San Juan del Sur, out to roughly 80 miles offshore.
