## What is Board Feet Easy Calculator?

The Board Feet Easy Calculator is a simple, easy to use application for calculating board feet. If you don't work with wood, this application is of no use to you. If you do have the need to calculate board feet, this easy to use calculator may be just what you're looking for.

Simply enter the length, width, and thickness, and the calculator will tell you the board feet for the given dimensions. Optionally, you can specify the number of pieces, a waste percentage, and the cost per board foot, and the calculator will produce the total board feet, the board feet including waste, and the total cost.

You can also organize your calculations into projects. Add materials to a project as you go, and the app keeps a running total of board feet and cost for the whole project. Each project can include notes for anything else worth remembering - delivery dates, client details, or a cut list.

Although there are other free board feet calculators - and I've tried them all - they either did not have all the options I needed, and/or had user interface quirks. So, I created my own. I use this calculator often and find it handy, so I want to share it with any other woodworkers that need an easy to use board feet calculator.

This version is a ground-up rewrite with a modern interface. The calculator itself works exactly the same way it always has. Simple and focused on doing one thing well.

Why is the amount off by a factor of 4?

Not user friendly and zero information on how to use or enter the info. Such as “thickness” no one uses this as a term in measuring. they should have diameter, radius and circumference on here for calculations for board feet. Such as and 8’ log that is 20” in diameter/62.8” circumference.

After I updated phones, I lost my favorite board feet calculator which included a material cost list you could edit all the choices of lumber with price per board foot and when selecting your species it would pull in the cost and calculate. I had a large list in mine from my supplier and I could pick individual species from the list before calculating the board footage for different components and it would use the price in the material list. It was so handy to have a lumber cost sheet built into my calculator that would work together as long as I kept my prices up to date. Please add this idea to an update!

I enter 12”x12”x1/2” and the price of $6.99 to get a board foot price. I hit calculate and it gives me 2.39. What the heck does that tell me?

Enjoying the App, but if possible could there be a button on the project page for numerical or alphabetical order? Or the ability to move them ourselves without deleting? 

It’s great overall but when you have 100 species of wood and can’t find that one you are looking for because you add project once item comes in but then can’t find it months later because you added 20+ more species.

Just a suggestion, I would definitely enjoy that in next update if possible.

This is a ground-up rewrite of the app with a modern interface. The calculator works exactly the same way it always has. One addition, based on user feedback, is that projects can now have project notes - for anything you want to jot down about a project.

All your existing projects and materials (boards) carry over automatically when you update - nothing to set up.

This update is built with the latest iOS tools, so it's fully compatible with the newest iPhones, iPads, and the current version of iOS - while still working on older devices. This new tooling will allow more frequent feature updates and quicker fixes in the future.

### 2.0.2 — 2017-10-12

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.

Upgraded for iOS 11.
By popular demand the app itself remains unchanged and as simple as ever.  It should be instantly familiar as the user interface has been kept the same (other than the UI changes made by Apple in the new operating system).  So the functionality remains exactly the same as the original.

This version requires iOS 8 or newer, so users with older iOS versions should continue to use version 2.0.1 as it is functionally the same.

### 2.0.1 — 2014-08-12

- Fixed a major issue with iOS 7 and above, where the top of the input screen moved up and under the navigation bar, preventing the entry of the length and waste values. 

- Fixed a bug that prevented the calculated waste amount from being added to the the total Board Feet when displayed in the board list or in the project. Only affects users that are using both the project capability and a percentage waste value in calculating their board feet. 

- Fixed a couple of annoying interface issues, such as displaying the keyboard on startup (which covered the tab bar until a calculation was performed or the calculator reset). This made the projects functionality clumsy to get to. Also, automatically set focus to fields when possible to eliminate a tap on the field.

### 2.0.0 — 2012-10-05

This new version adds the number one requested enhancement: projects.  

With version 2.0 you can create multiple projects, which can contain multiple items (boards).  The application will total the board feet and cost for each project.  No longer will you need to write down the board feet and cost from each calculation and add them up.

Additionally, the current, simple, stand-alone calculator is available in a separate tab for quick access to once off calculations.  So the original functionality - and easy use - is unchanged.  You gain a whole new capability, while not loosing a thing.
