They keep your head-to-head record, sulk after a losing run, and react to every win, loss and comeback. It is not a difficulty slider; it is a rival worth beating.

AN OPPONENT THAT ACTUALLY THINKS
Chess, Checkers, Draughts, Reversi, Xiangqi, Oware and Nine Men's Morris run a real search that reads several moves ahead, and Chess plays from an opening book. Difficulty is thinking time, not a fixed depth. The free games include the Standard level, with no random slips, so you can judge it before you spend anything.
