## What is Boardcall?

Every surf app shows you twelve numbers and leaves the decision to you. Boardcall gives you one answer.

Each morning, Boardcall reads the swell, wind, and tide at your break and tells you what it's actually doing out there — in the way a friend who already checked would tell you. Waist high and clean. Blown out by ten. Worth the drive.

Then it looks at the boards you actually own — your quiver, by real dimensions and volume — and tells you which single one to grab today, and why.

WHAT YOU GET

• A plain-English briefing every morning — no jargon, no charts to decode
• A board recommendation from your own quiver, with the reason why
• A straight verdict: fire, fun, marginal, or skip
• Seven-day forecast with the right board for each day
• Wetsuit call based on real water temperature
• A daily reminder at whatever time you actually wake up

BUILT AROUND YOUR BOARDS

Add your quiver once — length, width, thickness, type. Boardcall works out the volume, weighs it against your size and skill, and matches it to the day. Short-period wind swell and a 5'10" shortboard don't mix; Boardcall knows that and says so.

HONEST BY DEFAULT

If it's bad, Boardcall says it's bad. No hype, no notifications engineered to get you to open the app. The whole point is to save you the drive on the days that aren't worth it.

NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED

No signup, no email, no password. Your quiver, your spots and your profile live on your iPhone rather than in an account, and Boardcall never uses your location — you pick breaks from a built-in list.

Writing the briefing does send something, so here it is plainly: that day's conditions, your skill level and weight, and the boards it's choosing between go to our server and on to the AI that writes the prose. That request isn't logged or stored. Along with it goes a random, anonymous ID — the one thing we do keep — used only to stop abuse of the briefing feature. It isn't tied to you, and there are no analytics, ad trackers, or crash reporting anywhere in the app.

BOARDCALL PRO — OPTIONAL

Everything above is free, uncapped: every board pick, the whole map, all 336 breaks, the seven-day forecast. The only thing Pro changes is the weekly limit on AI-written briefings. Four a week are free; past that you still get a real briefing, written on your phone instead of by the AI.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.6 — 2026-09-08

A Home Screen and Lock Screen widget. Today's verdict, the size, the board to grab and the day's tide, without opening the app.

The daily reminder now carries the actual call rather than asking you to come and look — including on the days it says don't bother.

The forecast runs seven days instead of six.

Wind reads as offshore, cross-shore or onshore alongside the condition, and the hour strip is tinted by how each hour scores for you rather than for surfing in general.

Where a nearby buoy is reporting, its measured offshore reading sits beside the forecast, so a disagreement between the two is visible instead of hidden.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-09-05

73 new breaks — 336 in all — across the UK and Europe, Australia, Asia-Pacific, Central and South America, and Africa.

Wave heights are recalibrated. Sizes across the whole catalog were checked against real-world readings and corrected break by break.

The verdict now looks at your rack. A small day your best board can't float is called marginal, not fun, and a new line under the badge names what held the day back — safety, your board, the wind, or the size.

Board shapes are redrawn, so a fish reads differently from a shortboard at a glance.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-09-04

Today now refreshes itself. Reopen the app later in the day and the verdict, board pick, and tide all catch up automatically instead of showing whatever was true when you last checked.

Tap the size, energy, wind, or tide reading on Today to see the next 24 hours as a chart, not just a number. First light and last light are now shown too, and the best-time recommendation respects them.

Adding a board you can't find in the catalog now takes your real dimensions instead of rounding them to the nearest inch.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-09-02

New in Boardcall Pro:
- Extra reminders -- set more than one check-in time a day
- Share the call -- send today's verdict and board pick as a card
- Board comparison -- see two boards scored side by side against today's conditions
- Insights -- the patterns in your own logged sessions, plainly laid out
- Coach -- a weekly note on what your sessions actually show

Also in this update:
- iPad support
- More coverage, including the Great Lakes for the first time

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-01

Boardcall now works on iPad, with the same clean, uncluttered layout as iPhone.

This update also adds the app's first App Store rating prompt. It asks once, ever, and only after you've actually gotten some use out of the app — either your second board added or your third AI briefing used. Never during setup, never more than once.
