It felt very scammy just trying to set up in the first place, given that I made the purchase, but a repeatedly asked me to make another purchase of what I would assume is the exact same course again… But once you’re actually in, not only do, I have to learn about some boating, rules or ideas that are completely irrelevant to me in a very landlocked state, but every time the app closes out I have to login with my credentials… Why can I not just stay logged in? Bad product. Would not recommend - just do the textbook version. **Developer response:** Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. Because your boating safety certificate is good in EVERY STATE we our required by NASBLA to teach every possible situation you many encounter in ANY state. This is a good thing! And, related, we our required by states to disable persistent login for security purposes. So while we hear your frustration, we are required to follow the law. Happy boating! ### 3/5 — Please please please remember my login *2026-07-29* Genuinely not a bad way to learn. They definitely gamified the learning and it pays off for my personality. Learned a lot more than I thought I would. However. Every. Single. Time. I open this app I have to login again. I use long aliased emails and long passwords so it made opening the app something I dread. Two stars off for that **Developer response:** Thanks for the positive review and feedback. We are so sorry about the password memory issue but it is not our fault. The state require that as part of their security. They will not accept our courses as valid unless we meet all their security mandates. Happy boating! ### 4/5 — Forgot password and username *2026-07-24* I got to make progress but I had to put it off and forgot my log in info. It doesn’t have an option for recovery on the app ### 3/5 — Fix the login *2026-07-10* Every time I switch the app to the background, I’m logged out and have to sign in again. On top of that, use the “Remembered Username” option isn’t available because it’s hidden underneath another field. I had to sign in at least six times in a single day, which is incredibly frustrating. Please fix the login persistence and the hidden username option. **Developer response:** Sorry to hear of your login issues. For security reasons (imposed with our contractual agreements with the state agencies) we cannot store login data in the app itself. ### 4/5 — Good app for beginners *2026-07-07, version 1.5.46* Started knowing basically nothing and just now got my boating license in 2 days app works great and is a good fun experience and enjoyable learning as well! I never encountered the signing in issues others had but I went through the online website to the App store through there but that and I do have a newer phone so that also could be a contributing factor but would recommend this app to a friend and in my experience worth the cost (: ### 1/5 — God awful *2026-06-12* Terrible **Developer response:** Bummer. If you’re confused like I am don’t download this app. Also if the developer comments on this review tell me how to do it ### 3/5 — can’t get my certificate *2026-06-07* when i try to get my certificate it refuses to let me print it or even see it! i did this before on the website before the app was created and didnt finish. it expired and I used an entirely different login the only same thing i used was my email and password. but now that I’m done with the interactive + one it keeps bringing me back to my expired lesson! Call Customer Service: 1-800-830-2268 ### 1/5 — Just a login screen *2026-06-01* When I opened it for the first time, it just popped up a login prompt. There aren't any instructions or links on how to get an account. **Developer response:** Sorry about that! There are instructions if you click the "about" link on login. It explains that you have to create an account on boat-ed.com first. You cannot register in app due to restrictions related to Apple App Store policy. Once you get your username/password, just login to the app and you'll be off and running. ### 1/5 — Longer then 2 1/2 hours *2026-05-12* False advertising and casts 30 Extra dollars. Don’t buy it. 🗑️ **Developer response:** Sorry to hear your frustration. The course length is not dictated by use but by NASBLA and your state authority responsible for boating safety. By law the course must be at least 2.5 hours. Our data indicate the average completion time is 3 hours compared to 8 hours for our traditional course. Thus it is faster to complete. Individual completion times will of course vary from student to student. ### 3/5 — Fire extinguisher *2026-04-24* I tried multiple times to extinguish fire with fire extinguisher. I had 2 green check marks and it would not extinguish fire and failed me each time. **Developer response:** To complete this activity you must aim in the correct zone, just like with a real fire. We even provide you with a clue to that zone on your second attempt. Boating safety requires precision. They are either slow to respond or their pathetic AI response is not our problem. If you haven’t bought the program already, DON’T! ### 1/5 — Half baked *2026-08-25* The lessons wouldn’t be bad if the app were fixed. I have to type in my user ID every time I use the app, and the passwords app can only auto fill the password. The app has odd glitches sometimes too. It had an option read narrator the text, but it’s greyed out so we can’t use it, if you don’t have the option don’t show it. I don’t even know how long I have left, there isn’t a place telling me how many lessons I have left. Please at least update the login stuff, and tell me how many lessons are left. (This was expensive.) ): Update Got my card in the mail, but NY State keeps saying there is an issue with the cert number, so I can’t apply for my adventure license. I payed the extra for the fast course have been on hold for 1hr+ twice with no answer!!!! waste of money $80 down the drain. I go to boat-ed and it logs me in and I can take the course over a browser… but some things are missing off the screen with no way to move the picture. Download this app and it doesn’t let me login. **Developer response:** Correct. You have to use the native app with a mobile device. The mobile browser doesn't have ability to support the course as a web object. Apologies for the login issue. The cost is reflective of the resources required to create real-life simulations. Plain text courses are less expensive because they are just words on a screen.
