## What is Boater Briefer?

Boater Briefer turns NOAA marine weather, tide predictions, and saltwater fishing data into a single daily briefing — built specifically for recreational boaters and coastal anglers.

WHY BOATER BRIEFER

• Narrated audio briefings — listen to today's conditions while you rig up. Captain's Call summarizes wind, sea state, tides, and visibility in one short, hands-free read.
• Tides done right — 24-hour curve, hi/lo times, monthly calendar, and live countdown to the next change. Subordinate stations supported.
• Marine-grade weather — wind, waves, sea state, water temperature, marine alerts, and multi-day NWS forecasts. Plain language, not raw codes.
• Offline-first — last-known briefing and tide data work when you're out of signal. The app re-syncs when you're back ashore.
• Saltwater fishing — species regs by state, fishing windows scored by tide, sun, moon, and barometric pressure. Photos for ID. Closed seasons hidden automatically.
• Marine charts — NOAA ENC overlay on a MapLibre vector basemap. Pinch, zoom, and explore harbors, channels, and waypoints.
• Multi-location carousel — your GPS plus saved waypoints, swipe between them like Apple Weather.
• Thousands of locations — Every U.S. coastal state is in, plus the Gulf and Pacific islands — wherever NOAA runs a tide station and the NWS issues a marine forecast.

PRIVACY YOU CAN VERIFY

• No ads. No tracking. No accounts.
• Location is used only to fetch your briefing and never linked to an identity.
• Crash and performance data are anonymized and can be turned off in Settings.

PERFECT FOR

• Day cruisers, sailors, and yacht owners
• Saltwater anglers (striper, bluefish, fluke, tuna, and more)
• Harbormasters and dock crews who want a quick read on conditions
• Anyone planning a coastal trip, kayak run, or fishing window

GETTING STARTED

Open the app and grant location once — your briefing loads in seconds. Swipe right to add waypoints (Salem Harbor, Bluefish Channel, your home dock, anywhere on saltwater). Each waypoint gets its own carousel page with tides, weather, fishing, and a tap-to-listen audio briefing.

DATA SOURCES

NOAA Tides & Currents, National Weather Service, Open-Meteo Marine, NDBC buoy network. The same authoritative sources commercial maritime tools use, packaged for the rest of us.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.14 — 2026-08-09

USCG Notices — what the Coast Guard posted near you. Local Notices to Mariners are published weekly, per district, as PDFs. Boater Briefer now pulls the ones within 10 nm of your position and leads with a plain-language summary: shoaling, safety zones, missing and moved buoys, regattas and fireworks — each with distance and bearing from where you are.

• The full list, curated. Tap through for every notice, ranked with the most serious first, filtered by category if you want.
• The Coast Guard's own words. Every notice opens to its original text, unedited.
• Honest about what it knows. Notices whose position is only approximate say so, rather than dropping a pin that looks precise. Offline with nothing cached reads as "unavailable", never as "nothing here".

Advisory information only — not a substitute for monitoring VHF Channel 16.

Also: faster, steadier briefing audio, and support for Android 16.
