### 4/5 — Affordable basics

I am on my second boat with this app. It does what I need without being overly complicated. I don’t want to spend more time logging my boat than I do using it. This app does what I need. There are much more expensive programs out there but they have lots of functionality that is beyond what a normal recreational boat owner needs.

I've been using Boating Suite for years on a single device. Last year the developers introduced quite a pricey subscription model which is supposed to sync across IOS devices.  I decided to give it a try, but I've now spent months working with the developer to make it sync across my iPad and iPhone but it just doesn't work, and what's most frustrating is that they can't tell me why.

So now after paying the subscription for a year I'm stuck with the original functionality, which is fine, but not worth the expensive subscription.

Disappointing.

So far, it does not support MacBook Air which I use at home. Also, the todo does not incorporate due dates, TCO tracking or priority. Checklists to be used for prior-to-trip or pre-launch are non-existent...the very reason one looks to have software for a vessel. Some good points in that it logs trips via GPS. Other than that, much more detail items needed for the cost of the software.

We live on a large lake and boat regularly during our 9ish month long season, and I have had this app for several years. I was real disappointed when the shut down announcement came and had to download data to spreadsheets to retain it. So it was super god news when it came back on line better than ever. Having a place to keep service and repair records, and double checking fuel quantities against boat instruments provide a nice level of confidence. The only reason I did not provide 5 stars is I think the trip log feature needs some improving.

Was a great way to track vessel hours, maintenance and expenses electronically. Price increase was astronomical! From about $8 to $90 CDN per year, with tax. With this price increase there was supposed to be some improvements, but so far I can’t see any change. It still can’t access it from other devices, and I can’t see anything else different. I swallowed the huge price increase hoping that I could access the app through all my devices, but even if that worked, it would still be hugely overpriced. I will download my data before my subscription is over and will not renew. It’s not really any better than using a spreadsheet app.

It used to be a one time purchase but now it is 80$cad/y subscription! There is no way this app is worth that. Developers are being greedy and overvalued their app. I’ve been using this app for many years and bought it multiple times. I was mainly using it for trip, expense, maintenance and fuel log books. But, the number of outings I do and the length of the season here does not justify that amount of money! I guess I’ll be back to the old fashioned excel sheet.

I have been using this app for years to track my maintenance, fuel consumption and trip logs. I find it easy to use and love the ability to change the date of an entry at any time to any date, especially the date in a fuel entry. Very easy to do if you touch the date you want to change in the lower left hand corner. Looking forward to trying out the iCloud sync feature.

This is a good app that works as advertised.
However, I have two engines in my vessel log and the summary report does only list the total hours for both engines combined and not for each engine and further, the combined engine hours seem not to be calculated correctly. I get a decimal number result in the total engine hours, even though I only entered integers (whole numbers) for the engine running times in the individual logs. Would be great if this could be fixed in the next update. It seems to calculate fine if I only enter one engine in the log.

I had high hopes for this app because it’s exactly what I was looking for, but it isn’t that good.  It’s clunky and hard to navigate.  And there is no ability to edit the date field for fuel entries.  I filled up last week and want to add that to the log but it only allows today’s date. Can’t believe that in this day and age this feature doesn’t work.  Horrible app. Would not recommend.

This app is not suitable if you want to sync between between devices. Eg an IPhone (with GPS) and an iPad.

Don’t bother buying this app.  The features are little more than a notebook with categories like Log Book, Maintenance, Trips, etc.  I could track all the same info in Word or Excel.  I thought it would have some suggested items under each category to help you fill out each section, like how old are your batteries?  Date of last oil change?  Date of fuel filter?  Checklist for winterizing.  Checklist for spring unwrapping.  It has none of that.  You fill in everything manually.  Not what I was looking for, so thankfully it’s only $5, but still not worth it.

First day of the season and as I started the log entries, suddenly I only had a data field for one engine, not two, and no generator. Last year I had all three. Please fix!

As a professional licensed mariner, I purchased this app last week from a different source to better track my underway hours. My first two attempts using it, the app shut down and never tracked my trips. I submitted an email to the developer and heard crickets. The third trip the app stayed on but the route was completely inaccurate and therefore I will no longer use. Recommend looking elsewhere.

I recently purchased this App and I’ve been fiddling with it for a couple of days and can’t get it to work. When I highlight any of the 7 logs, the page will open but I can’t enter anything.  I’ve deleted and reinstalled several times to try to get it to work but so far no success. I went into the Help and FAQ page but none of the generic FAQ information answers my question. I tried the contact page but it leads nowhere. I’m certain that this is something that I’m doing wrong and once I get it going it’ll probably be fine. I just find it frustrating that I can’t find any help. I gave the App a 1 star rating but that’s probably not fair because I don’t know how good the app really is yet.

I paid for this app and then had to pay for the same app AGAIN in order to continue using after the developer updated it. Then the developer went to a subscription model and disabled the functionality of the original app if users didn’t pay a monthly fee. Very shady. Now all my data is inaccessible and I paid twice for an app that was disabled by the developer. I never even got a refund. This kind of practice shouldn’t be allowed in the App Store.

I have been using this app for years. Within the last year, you can no longer use the app you purchased. They force you to either pay ridiculous monthly or annual fees or you can export your data. That’s it. I don’t know how they get away with this, but you’ve lost another loyal customer.

I was just getting ready to give this app a thumbs up after my last review on Mar 18. I have been logging in my maintenance and expenses pretty good. Took several trips and did not have an issue. Went out today started a trip went to the fuel log saved a fuel log it’s there. Came back from my trip. Saved it as normal. Completely gone. No record of it. This app is completely frustrating.

I heard about this app and wanted to see if it met my needs and I liked the interface. There is NO FREE TRIAL!  (Even for a day, let alone for a normal evaluation period). So, if you want to evaluate it, you have to pay for the month to see if you even like it. No way!!! I deleted the app immediately after getting that screen that said I had to pay to see it. It “may” be a great program, but I’m not going to pay to figure that out.

Update: there have been no updates to this app since it went subscription based. Disappointed. I was thinks about restarting my subscription but no real need to.  This product before was great. I didn’t move to the subscription based one right away. Got it for this season and I am completely dissatisfied! There is no method to the madness so I am not really sure what to suggest. This app consistently changes my engine hours. Engine 1 becomes engine 2 on the hours. I use the feature to start a trip and hours are always screwed up on start. I have saved trips and it doesn’t save them (sometimes) I have also started trips and it has cancelled them during the cruise and prompted me to start a new trip when I came back to the dock. This new “paid” wouldn’t be worth it if it was free.

**Developer response:** Sorry to hear that you cancelled but to clarify, there have been updates since we moved to a subscription model. And as of 3/26/25, we are releasing a big update that will go live in the next 2 weeks.

This was a great app. Now I can’t use my existing app, unless I pay these exorbitant fees to upgrade to the newest version. This is extremely unprofessional and should not be allowed. All the time spent entering all my information into the app has now been rendered useless. The only option you have is to export the data. Extremely disappointed. Please allow us to use our existing app that we paid for. If not, the only thing you have taught users is to no longer trust this company for any apps in the future, since the app you paid for will be shut down and your only choices will be to export your data or pay a ridiculous fee.

I was a previously a very very long term user of this app and purchased evey single upgrade to support the creators.  Without much of any meaningful warning the developers locked us loyal customers out of even simply viewing our data from within the app that we paid for and previously purchased unless we paid the extortion fees either monthly or yearly..!!   Previously over the years they came out with a newer app and our data was left in the old app versions and was still viewable within the old app.   Not this time…or any more, now not any more can the data be even be viewed within the app we paid for.   This time now the only option is for us to pay more money or export in a very useless to me looking data in a non usable format to me unless we bought the newest app with additional recurring ransomware type fees.   They ruined the access to my data within the app that I have paid for several times in previous upgrades, very unethically wrong that our old data, all my logs and records are no longer available viewable to be accessed within the app we purchased. 
Very very sad boating season as this was once my most favorite app on my Home Screen.   Be cautious of this companies business practices..!!

This is maybe the second or third version of this app that I’ve been using now since 2015 I find it very useful as a recording mechanism for maintenance and logging trips. You can get direct contact with the app owner and he gives very easy instructions when migrating data. Been able to download all entries and email them via CSV file is very useful. The only negative I can see in this app is with the photo function which you can attach to log entries this is not able to be printed out in any format and only available via the app, not a biggie but then I wonder why I have the photo option at all. Easily worth the money

I had your previous version and having the trip log is a great addition. 

The look, the layout, the use of colors and the intuitive simplicity of the interface really make this great from both a visual and usability standpoint.

The only thing I would like to have is the ability to change the order of items once they have been added to a list (to do list, expense/maintenance logs). Sometimes I may forget to add something until later and I would like to maintain chronological order or prioritize the order for certain lists/logs. Is there a way to do this in the current release? Aside from that addition, you did a really nice job with this app.

If you keep a boating log and want data and reports then this by Fay is the App you will need and use.

I am a long time Boating Suite user from the original version1.0 release.  Rob in his early days did a good job in supporting issues and it even got better after V2 was release.  Have there been issues yes, but that is true of all software.  They have been responsive and communicative to anything I have reported or requested.  A lot more support for a one time fee of $4.99 than I expected.  

I had no issue in paying for the latest rewrite. It comes with some new features including true IPAD support, worth an additional $4.99.  

I have and will continue to not only be a loyal user but continue to recommend it to all my boating friends.   

Great job Rob and team.
