I reached out to support letting them know this was very inconvenient given it was too close to New Year’s Eve, so I asked him to please send me a list of filtered results that were in fact available, they just scraped a list of options that were also not available, they didn’t bother to take the time to really find available boats. Just be aware you can’t plan ahead trusting a booking here it’s a done deal, very likely the rate you are shown is deceiving and you’ll end up being canceled on or Paying up to 5 times more. ### 1/5 — The worst *2025-12-07, version 5.22.1* Buggy. Every time I try to message the owner I CANNOT LEAVE ANY CONTACT INFORMATION ! Apparently phone numbers and email addresses are spam. Try having your app developed by someone with a brain so I can share relevant information. ### 1/5 — Captain issues and non stop problems. *2026-08-14, version 5.35.1* This platform has not provided a reliable experience for either travelers or boat owners. On multiple occasions, when guests attempted to book a cruise, Boatsetter assigned captains located hundreds or even thousands of miles away—including captains as far away as Virginia. One of the captains assigned to our vessel confirmed that he had experienced the same issue, with assignments being sent to captains located as far away as Lake Tahoe. The repeated mismatching of captains has created unnecessary confusion and made the booking process difficult for both guests and owners. We have now secured our own qualified captain from San Diego and, based on our experience, have decided that we will no longer be using the Boatsetter platform. ### 1/5 — Don’t Waste Your Money on the Insurance *2026-07-07, version 5.35.0* I paid for extra insurance, and it didn’t even cover a small incident. Then, before my deposit had even finished processing, I received a legal threat even though I had already explained I would pay as soon as the funds were released. Changing my password was a horrible experience. Likely because I had initially logged in from chrome and then attempted log into the app that I had subsequently downloaded. 2. The use case was editing an inquiry which was not a complete edit. I could not edit the duration from 3 to 4 hours nor could I change the number of people. In addition there was no obvious way to delete the inquiry and start over. These are pretty fundamental editing items that I would’ve thought would’ve been caught during the initial testing phase of this application. ### 1/5 — Bait and Switch. Zero Accountability. Stay Far Away. *2026-05-23, version 5.35.0* I booked a boat through this platform - instantly confirmed, charged in full, confirmation number and everything. Seemed seamless. It wasn’t. 45 minutes before our family boat day, I called the owner to check in. He told me his boat was already rented to someone else. That’s right - double-booked. Paid, confirmed, and completely abandoned. What followed was a masterclass in corporate incompetence. Their support team promised callback after callback - none came. Instead, I got vague, unhelpful texts that said absolutely nothing. No urgency, no apology, no real solution. Their idea of “making it right”? A 10% discount toward a last-minute reservation on a smaller, lesser boat. Sounds generous until you look at the math: that replacement boat carried a 25% surcharge, making it more expensive than the original — not cheaper. A booking that should have cost roughly $40 less ended up costing 20% more. That’s not compensation. That’s an insult dressed up as a favor. And when I pushed back? They blamed the owners. Classic. Build a marketplace, take the booking fees, collect the money — then point fingers the moment something goes wrong. This company had every opportunity to make this right and chose not to at every single turn. If you’re planning a family day on the water, do yourself a favor and book literally anywhere else. This platform is not worth your money, your time, or your trust. ### 1/5 — Scammed out of our deposit *2026-05-21, version 5.35.0* The boat was dirty when we arrived and the owner is taking our entire deposit because of some foot prints left in the boat (it was pitch black when we returned to the dock so we only cleaned the boat when we got on it). The owner sent his elderly mother to meet us and she knew very little about the operating the boat and had to read from a legal pad to tell us how to disconnect the battery and operate it. Seriously, just rent a boat at an actual marina and don’t try to save a few bucks like we did… ### 1/5 — Can’t trust any reservations to be secure *2026-04-04, version 5.33.0* Tried booking a few times and the owners always cancelled. The entire rental process from start to finish was flawless!! The pontoon we rented was super clean and perfect for our three hours on the lake. We started out renting 2 hours but were having so much fun, we added one more hour! Again so easy!! Thank you so much Daniel and your brother! We had a great time!!
