## What is Bolo 2000?

Drive a tank through an overgrown alien maze. Find the six enemy bases, punch a
hole in each one, and get out before what's left in there finds you.

Bolo 2000 is a modern arcade game built on the bones of a 1982 classic: pure
twin-stick handling, a scrolling maze, and explosions that fill the screen.

LOCAL MULTIPLAYER — UP TO SIX PHONES
Same Wi-Fi, no account, no server, no room code. Open the game, drive your tank
into the START pad, and the match begins when everyone is standing in it. Every
base in the maze has to come down and nobody can clear it alone, so you work
together — with friendly fire on and three lives each, and the match ending when
one player still has a life left. The alliance is real, and it is temporary.
Nobody is the host, either: if someone's battery dies or they walk out, the game
carries on without them.

TWIN-STICK, NO COMPROMISE
Drive with the left stick, aim and fire with the right — independently. Hold the
fire stick to lay down a stream while you keep moving. A paired hardware keyboard
works too.

FOUR SPECIALS, ONE TAP EACH
Stockpile charges and spend them when it matters:
• TELEPORT — warp straight to the furthest surviving base.
• INVINCIBLE — eight seconds where nothing can touch you.
• RAILGUN — rounds that fly through walls, armour and base shells alike.
• NOVA — a blast centred on your tank that you alone walk away from.

THE MAZE FIGHTS BACK
• Sentry drones orbit every base, and break orbit to hunt you the moment it falls.
• Crawler trains wander the corridors at random. They never shoot. They don't
have to — touching one kills. Shoot one from the tail and every car is its own
  kill in the chain.
• Gates slide open and shut across the corridors on their own timers.
• Boss fortresses every fifth sector, ringed by rotating shields, shooting back.
• Night patrols every sixth sector: the field goes black and your headlight is
raycast against the walls, so the beam stops exactly where the wall does.

SHOCKWAVE CHAINS
A shot that hits a wall leaves a burning shockwave. Fly another round into it and
the explosion walks back down your own bullet stream. Powder kegs chain off each
other. Clearing half a sector with one well-placed shot is entirely possible —
and so is killing yourself with it.

CLEAR THE SECTOR, THEN RUN
With the last base down, an exit portal opens on the outer wall and the radar
switches to point at it. Everything still alive comes with you.

CHAIN, SCORE, CLIMB
Kills that land close together multiply. Game Center all-time and daily
leaderboards, plus achievements. The Daily Challenge hands every player the same
maze and the same difficulty each day.

MAKE IT YOURS
Colour-blind palette, left-handed layout, CRT scanline toggle, difficulty and
maze-complexity dials, and a retro soundtrack that changes with the sector type.

Free to try for ten minutes. One optional unlock opens the full game for good —
no ads, ever, and no timers dressed up as gameplay.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.3 — 2026-08-31

LOCAL MULTIPLAYER
Two to six iPhones on the same Wi-Fi. No account, no server, no room code and no
host to pick. Open the game, drive your tank into the START pad, and the match
begins when everyone is standing in it.

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE
Every base in the maze has to come down and nobody can clear it alone, so you
work together. Friendly fire is always on. Three lives each, and the match ends
when one player still has a life left. The alliance is real, and it is
temporary.

NOBODY IS THE HOST
Every phone runs its own copy of the arena and answers only for its own tank. If
someone's battery dies, a call comes in, or they simply walk out of the room, the
match carries on without them. It costs the game one tank, not the game.

A LOBBY YOU STAND IN
Your tank waits in a room with everyone else's, names over their turrets, driving
around before anything is decided. There is no ready button — standing in the pad
is the ready check, and driving back out of it cancels.

A PROPER ARENA
Neon walls on a lit lattice, blast waves that race out across the floor, muzzle
flash, glowing rounds, and kegs that chain. The radar always shows you the
objective and never shows you a distant player: hunting someone is meant to be
hard, finding the thing you have to shoot is not.

FIXES
The attract demo no longer plays its soundtrack behind the game.

### 1.0.78 — 2026-08-29

THE MAZE IS ALIVE
Walls are overgrown: moss carpets, branching vines with leaves and curls, bioluminescent blossoms that breathe, slime pooled in every corner and dripping off the ledges. Sectors now zoom in from a speck and slam into place.

SPECIALS RACK
Four one-tap specials in the top right: teleport to the furthest base, invincibility, wall-piercing railgun rounds, and a nova blast. Charges drop from bases, and clearing a sector always pays one.

NEW ENEMIES
Sentry drones orbit every base and scatter to hunt you when it falls. Crawler trains wander aimlessly and kill on contact - shoot one from the tail and every car counts toward your chain.

MOVING WALLS AND AN EXIT
Gates slide open and shut across the corridors. Clear the bases and an exit portal opens on the outer wall. The radar points the way, and you have to drive there.

IT HITS HARDER
Base kills fill the whole screen with a shockfront, lances of light, smoke and debris, and the screen shakes with every kill.

FIXES
Armoured heavies are no longer immune to gunfire - they take three hits, and every tank now shows how many hits it has left. Fixed a launch crash and the stall at the start of each sector.

### 1.0.67 — 2026-08-24

Bolo 2000 now supports a physical keyboard — great for playing on a Mac. Drive with UP/DOWN for throttle and LEFT/RIGHT to turn in classic 45° tank steps, and fire in all 8 directions with Q/W/E, A/D, and Z/X/C. Works with any Bluetooth keyboard paired to iPhone or iPad too.

### 1.0.64 — 2026-08-20

NEW: SECTOR TELEPORT
A one-time Extra in Settings — jump straight to any sector you choose and start
your run from there.

NEW: IMMORTALITY
A one-time Extra in Settings — your tank still dies and respawns, but you never
run out of lives. Toggle it on whenever you want an easier run.

ENEMY TANKS, RECOLOURED
Rammers now flash violet and shooters stay green, so you can tell threats apart
at a glance. (Armored tanks keep their steel-grey plating.)

There's also a tip jar in Settings if you'd like to support the game — thank you!

### 1.0.62 — 2026-08-16

Bases play like the arcade original again.

• Bases are back to a classic square shell that chips away as you hit it, instead of just soaking up damage
• Land a shot through an already-open breach and it's an instant kill — reach the core and the base goes down in one hit
• Your Game Center high score now shows during the attract-mode demo, arcade-cabinet style
