## What is BolusCalc?

his app is designed for simple calculations of insulin doses in the Canadian home and school setting (although calculations can also be done in U.S. mg/dL blood glucose units). There are 4 screens available: The “Simple Insulin Bolus” screen calculates an insulin dose for people on multiple daily injections (MDI) based on carb ratio, correction/sensitivity factor (ISF), target BG (the default is 6 mmol/L or 100 mg/dL for daytime, and 8 mmol/L or 120 mg/dL for bedtime), carbs to be consumed, and current BG. The “Simple Insulin Scale” screen generates a simplified insulin sliding scale for people who are on a fixed dose of carbs at a meal, based on baseline insulin dose, ISF, and target BG. The “Full Sliding Scale” screen generates a full insulin scale for people on MDI based on carb ratio, ISF, and target BG. The “Correcting for Arrows” screen allows CGMS users to calculate an increase or decrease in insulin dose (or carbs) to account for positive or negative direction arrows.

I think this App is great!! Makes simple Bolus calculations easy.  I just wish I could save multiple users all at the same time.  (Please add this into your next update!)

Every time it updates it resets everything to zero and to the Canadian standard! Please find away so the settings carry over!

Was working fine, then, my stored numbers were gone. Also, now it won’t let me put USA for home. Stuck on Canada? I updated the app and reset and the bugs they said were fixed were def not fixed. Same issue.

I’ve been using this app for almost two years—my endocrinologist set it up for me instead of using a printed graph.    This is always on my phone and easy to see. But I only have one screen, the app shows 4. Also, the military time is incorrect.   Can I change it to regular time? How do I update to 4 screens?
Thanks for an easier way to calculate insulin.

**Developer response:** Hi there, to be able to show 4 mealtimes, go to the Settings screen (the cogwheel icon on the Home screen, and under "Choose # of Bolus Parameters", pick "meal-specific (4)" and then exit the screen. The military time is from your phone.

I like that it’s set up for three different methods of calculation depending on your insulin sensitivity at various times of the day.  I also like that it saves your settings instead of re-entering them every time.  

Would love an and be willing to pay a decent amount for IOB and exercise adjustment to be included as well as it keeping your records permanently in the app for your review.  I had the Rapid Calc app but lost it when I got a new phone and it’s no longer available in the USA App Store. I’m dying for someone to duplicate it.  But in the meantime, this is about the best anyone has to offer here in the US App Store,
not to mention, it’s free with no adds.  Can’t beat that.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your positive review! In terms of IOB, there are a number of ways to calculate this, all very empirical, and really none of them are perfect. This would then also require users to enter the type of insulin and the time they gave the last injection, but the system wouldn't be able to track more than one injection at a time.
