Still so darn glitchy and inconsistent! ### 3/5 — Has potential *2023-12-12* This app has some great features, including the ability for each group member to be able to add their choice options for the next month’s book and the “like” button to allow the group to vote individually and anonymously. It is also convenient that when you set up the meeting time, you can opt for it to send your group members reminder emails, which is helpful considering everyone has other things going on. I really wish there was a way to allow for a moderator or someone to oversee/manage it though, as I am the one in my group who sets it up every month. It is annoying that I have to tell the people in my group to go back and delete last months picks, and other things like that. It is also very glitchy, which can be quite frustrating at times. If they would fix these things the app would be much better. ### 3/5 — Edit member list *2023-02-14, version 1.3.6* The biggest problem our book club has is we can’t edit the members in the book club. People come and go and we just keep adding on. The old members still are listed. I like using it to keep track of my book club’s activities. Also the giveaways are amazing! ### 3/5 — Has potential- but can be frustrating *2022-09-26* I want to love this app! I love that it lets us add our books up front (one of my groups pick all our books at the start of our year; and the other group picks just a few months at a time). I love that we can scroll back to see our previous reads I love that it sends reminders to start the book a week before the meeting. I love that we can add books our group has discussed but don’t want to pick as an official read just yet. I wish that i could have a place to add my own questions or talking points for the books as I am reading. I know there’s a tab for “questions” but rarely are there any questions there; nor does it let me enter my own. I wish there was a spot for a running group chat. Some book group conversations aren’t book specific. And I find it very frustrating that the app itself doesn’t have a “delete” meeting option. And it is definitely most annoying that it keeps pulling a very incorrect book cover (I wonder if it’s a trick to promote some new books). I have replaced this cover multiple times and it immediately reverts to the wrong book. The title of the book at the top of the page is correct- but definite wrong cover. The website actually shows the correct book cover. But not the app. So I know they have the correct cover in their database. So much potential for this app to be amazing. But a few very frustrating glitches and a lack of some basic logical functions. 🫤 **Developer response:** Hi--it's Pauline, founder of BookMovement. First, you have a web version of your page on BookMovement.com (same login as app) which has full functionality (you can delete your meeting there.) Second, about the book covers, nothing sinister! But it needs to be easier to REMOVE books; poll members. Customize- the Explore with adjectives is useless and junks up the site. It’s been awhile since App improved, has it been abandoned? I love the theory and it sure beats trying to work through a FB group - usually. It is a bit buggy and visually needs a cleanup. For my book club friends to use it, they’ll want something sure fire and very simple. But this may be the only book club app out there? ### 3/5 — Believe it or not, I have non iPhone using friends. *2021-01-25* Couldn’t use this app for my book club as some members do not have iPhones. It appears this app is not available cross platform. Disappointing. 3 stars for iOS only, especially for an app used within a group setting so it divides us and excludes friends based on phone choices. Even if everyone in my book club had iPhones, I wouldn’t go with this app because I’d be stuck with having to keep the club an iPhone only book club. Or with trying to figure out a work around if someone switched or someone new joined. It would have been two stars, but this looks like a well designed app. I really wanted to try this app for my club hence my disappointment in it only being available on iPhone. I’d say I hope it expands but by then I’ll have decided on a different app and if I spent time getting everyone all set up, I’m unlikely to go through changing it. ### 3/5 — Great idea, lacks execution *2021-01-15, version 1.3.3* So far I see a lot of potential with this app, but there are some bugs I experience that kind of ruin the app. For instance when I try to save possible club selections I often have to add the same book several times before it shows up and stays there. ### 5/5 — Simple and helpful *2020-09-28* Our club votes periodically on a set of books to read over the coming year or so, and our organizer is great about entering the schedule in BookMovement. That makes it simple to see what’s coming up in the next few meetings, or go back to remind myself when we read a certain book. I mostly use the My Clubs section, but occasionally go look at suggested books. You can’t delete books off potential selections or club selection list. It’s also not letting me add any books to my personal bookshelf or queue. Until we realized it is not for android users. Apple only. Bah! We have 4 members with android and can’t use this. They would need to use the website and log in. It glitches out anytime you do anything. Books I’ve added for future possibilities are suddenly gone next time I come back into the app. Things don’t save. I can’t even upload a simple profile picture. Could we get any of these things fixed?? ### 1/5 — Couldn’t even create an account *2020-11-25, version 1.3.3* I simply tried creating an account and kept receiving an “invalid password” notification each time I tried to register. Unfortunately, I have no clue why the 6 different passwords I tried did not work. I sadly had to abort the mission and delete the app. Very disappointing as I was looking forward to using this for a new book club :( ### 1/5 — Gets worse weekly *2020-04-14* This app / website gets worse weekly. Now that the developer is looking to make money off selling you books, following your book club choices has become impossible. The website crashes often. One book club member doesn’t even bother using the app because she gets dropped out of the club monthly. When we select a book for our meeting, the chances are pretty high that the website will show a surprising new cover for it after the book is selected confusing the club members. And once that cover is swapped, that book will forever stay with the wrong cover. I tried emailing Pauline about the cover issue and got no response. Now... the website won’t even load on my new laptop. I absolutely canNOT recommend this app. ### 1/5 — Ugh!!! *2019-06-05* This app won’t take my password, you can’t log into Facebook to create an account and it doesn’t let your phone auto populate your contact info!! So, I picked five different passwords n I got an error message each time saying invalid password but no rules are posted anywhere on what the requirements are!! Awful way to treat a new customer n there’s no help button for logging in. Update: June 4, I was finally able to get in. Not sure how. But, I sent an email to Pauline, the developer and did not hear back. I have had to download this app at least four times. I go to open it and after logging in (it doesn’t remember me or let me log in with Facebook or google or my fingerprint so I have to input all the info each time), it crashes. Four times this happened. I deleted it twice and started all over again to no avail. I will pay for a working one. It helps me manage our book club easily. It is so nice that it automatically generates emails announcing the next Bookclub date and choice of book and sends reminders. It has saved me a lot of time answering the same questions over and over, “what is our book next month? When is our next Bookclub? ” 🙄 What is even more invaluable in my opinion are the emails we get from Pauline with giveaways, new book suggestions and opportunities to zoom with authors! This is the best feature!! I also love the reading guides, the suggestions for Bookclub questions and sometimes even menus and drink ideas!
