Offers lots of functionality which iBooks does not provide. The default Audible app goes from 1x to 1.25x so I was looking for something with more options in between. Enter Book Mower... Unfortunately, even though the app has a number of varying speeds programmed in, there’s a serious degrading of audio quality with anything selected other than 1x speed. It’s annoying enough that I’d prefer to use the default Audible App (or will look for another app that allows various playback speeds for Audible files). Before, I used to have to fight with iTunes for ages in order to get my books on my phone. This app lets me push them wirelessly to my phone through a browser on my PC. It's almost too easy. It had bookmarks to remember where I stopped listening, customizable skip forward/backward buttons, copy and paste to add cover art, color schemes that change to match cover art, sleep timer, the list goes on. It's just an all around great app. ### 4/5 — Warning: Does Not Sync With iTunes *2017-05-01, version 3.6.2* This is a nicely designed app but I'm knocking off a star because a very important feature is missing: device syncing via iTunes. If you ONLY listen via one device like your phone then go ahead and buy this, it's a nice app. If you're like me and listen via multiple devices depending on location (iTunes at desk, Nano in the yard and car, iPhone around the house) then you'll want to wait for a later version. Right now stopping points aren't syncable. ### 4/5 — Great audiobook importer and player *2017-04-25, version 3.6.2* I love the fact that you can import books through multiple ways and the interface is very easy to navigate through.. The only problem I have is when I press play after restarting the app it takes about 30 seconds after pressing play to actually start playing.. ### 5/5 — Best audiobook player, best support *2017-04-19* I tried at least half a dozen, Book Mower is the one. Best feature is variable speed control that doesn't alter the pitch. Big easy-to-hit controls to jump backward and forward. Simple to import books from your itunes library or from dropbox or from the web. I paid the 3.99 in-app without hesitation. After the IOS 10.3.1 update, Book Mower wasn't finding my itunes books. My email to Freshmowed was answered within five minutes. Simple fix. Settings>Bookmower>Allow to Access Media & Apple Music had to be turned on again. ### 2/5 — Not great for PC users *2017-02-08, version 3.5.9* I suspect the developer is an Apple users who has been brainwashed to believe that iTunes is the pinnacle of multimedia apps. We PC users find that drag and drop is the most efficient and fastest method of file transfers. This app has basically two methods available. Copy your files into iTunes library and sync it with iTunes. Or, set up a wifi transfer -- which is a major downer as you have to type in the http address each time, and then transfer the files, at snail speed, one at a time. The only reason I gave it two stars is that I think that Apple users won't suffer the same frustrations I did. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Unable to purchase *2025-09-18, version 3.7.6* Great app but the worst support. I have sent many emails notifying that I’m not to purchase the paid version. Not a single response. ### 1/5 — Would not recommend *2023-01-13* The app was good but the went down hill fast. Even worse, the creator lashed out at me when I tried to ask for support. They were cranky that more people wouldn't buy and use their app... lashed out at me, one of the ones that did buy and did use. They demanded I give them more money to help make the changes but were hazy on when those changes would appear. Seems like it's become a scam. ### 1/5 — Import from browser no longer works *2023-01-02* This app hasn’t been updated for 4 years, and it looks like a recent iOS update, broke the functionality to import an audiobook using your computers web browser over the local Network. ### 1/5 — Works pretty good *2019-04-19* Works good for the text to speech audiobooks I make, it just has a major bug with Bluetooth headsets. After a few minutes of playing it won’t let the headset pause and the only way to fix it is either pause it from the phone or close and re-open the app. ### 1/5 — Terrible *2018-08-28, version 3.7.5* This app is not easy to use, it can’t sort by track alphabetically, and is poorly designed. Audiobook players for iPhone are sorely lacking compared to android! This APP has issues! *2016-06-19* I spend more time fiddling with issues than actually listening to audiobooks! When you first open the app and push play, there is a 5 to 8 second DELAY before your book starts playing. Incredibly frustrating because you don't know if you hit the button or not and you're waiting for nothing. Just about the time you give up and hit play again - it makes it pause. Seriously annoying. The developer claims that this is something in the iOS Audio architecture or something like that and is out of his control but other book audio apps do not have the same issue so it is most definitely with in his control! Since the latest update its crashing regularly. Since the last update about every third or fourth time I open the app it shows completely empty: no files, no audiobooks & I have to close the app & open again for my books to show up. When the app is open it will randomly start playing even though I'm not anywhere near the phone. It started playing during the meeting this week (at a rather racy part of the book as Murphy's Law would have it) which is why I finally quit the app for good. It’s so easy to use and has lots of useful customisable features. Best thing is the auto sleep timer. I found that not only could I open files using BookMower from Drive or Dropbox but it would import them into an existing book or a new one. Ibooks is almost impossible to use since the last update. This is far and away the best substitute. Only complaint is that gestures are rather complex and hard to remember. A simplified layout and a more customisable interface would be great. But still the best alternative to iBooks around and well worth the money. Offers side loading of audiobooks.
