## What is Bookcase?

Bookcase keeps every book you own in one place, on your iPhone.

Scan the barcode on the back of a book and it joins your bookcase straight away, with its title, author and cover. Bookcase looks up a value for each one, so your bookcase shows how many books you have and roughly what they are worth. No camera handy? Type the number above the barcode instead.

YOUR COLLECTION
• Every book with its cover, title, author and value
• No barcode? Point at the cover and tap the button
• Older books too: paperback store barcodes and pre-1974 numbers
• Search by title, author or number
• Copies counted when you own more than one
• Add a whole list at once from a spreadsheet
• Save your whole bookcase as a spreadsheet, and bring it back
• Type your own price or notes for any book

WHEN YOU'RE READY TO PART WITH SOME
The Sell tab sorts your books into two groups: worth asking a buyback site about, and worth selling online. One tap makes the upload list for a buyback site (and for AbeBooks, eBay or Amazon once eBay values are set up), or a copy of all your books. You never type a listing by hand.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your list stays on your phone. No account, no sign-in, no tracking, no ads. To find a book's details and value, Bookcase sends only its number to Open Library, Google Books and Apple Books, and to eBay and BooksRun for used prices and buyback offers when keys are set up. For a book with no barcode, a photo of the cover is read on your phone; only the words read from it are sent to Open Library and Google Books, and the photo is never stored or sent.

Values are estimates from public prices; the site you sell on sets the real price. Works in Canada and the United States.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-10-27

Books that can't be scanned:
• Keep it anyway now adds the book in one tap, with a small photo of its cover
• Tap the photo in the book to see it full size and read the title
• Search "Needs a title" to find these books, then type the title or tap Title is right
• The photo stays on your phone, never in your photos, and goes when the book gets its number

Backups:
• Save a copy of all your books can include the cover photos, or just the photos
• Add from a spreadsheet brings a backup with photos back

Values:
• Look up all values again, in the More menu, checks every book quietly; values stay on screen meanwhile
• Missing values are tried again each day

Easier to use:
• The scan card's Change button is now Edit
• At the largest text sizes, the Scan tab's label and condition fit

### 1.1 — 2026-10-26

Works with older books:
• Paperbacks with a store barcode now scan: Bookcase reads the book number printed nearby
• Books from before 1974 with a 9-digit SBN can be typed or photographed

Simpler to use:
• Settings is the gear in the top corner of every screen
• Pick the condition right on the Scan screen, next to the label
• The Sell tab has two groups and shows only the lists that will work for you
• Bundles and the Give away group are gone

Works better without a signal:
• A cover you keep with no signal waits, then fills in on its own when you're back online
• When a cover finds no match, Bookcase says so and lets you type the book's number
• Fixed a crash when two kept covers were the same book
• Remove now asks first, in a box in the middle of the screen

### 1.0 — 2026-10-20
