## What is BookDeck!?

BookDeck is a sanctuary for the spoken word -- an audiobook player designed for serious listeners who want analog warmth in a modern iOS experience.

A spinning turntable, warm tonearm, and tactile controls bring ritual to every listening session. Whether you are studying, commuting, or winding down, BookDeck treats your library with the reverence it deserves.

THE PLAYER

A signature interface built around a vinyl-inspired turntable. Variable speed from 0.75x to 2.0x with a smooth slider or quick presets. Smart Rewind adjusts automatically based on how long you were away -- short break, short rewind. Volume Boost doubles output for quiet recordings.

YOUR LIBRARY

Two distinct library views let you browse your collection your way. Cover art front and center with progress at a glance. Organize with folders, search, and multi-select. Light and dark themes shift the entire experience to match your mood.

PRECISION CONTROLS

Set a sleep timer by the minute or let it stop at the end of the chapter with a gentle fade-out. Fine-tune playback speed to match every narrator. Navigate chapters instantly from a dedicated chapter list.

IMPORT YOUR WAY

Browse files directly, sync from your Documents folder, or share from any app using the share extension. No subscriptions, no accounts -- just your books.

Supported formats: M4B, MP3, AAC, WAV, and lossless FLAC. No conversion needed.

BEYOND THE APP

CarPlay support for hands-free control while driving. Home screen and lock screen widgets for instant playback access. Full VoiceOver support and Dynamic Type scaling.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.1.4 — 2026-08-05

Book deletion works properly again.

Bug Fixes
• Fixed an issue that could prevent a local or downloaded audiobook from being deleted.
• Deleting a book now removes its audio, cover, and supporting files as expected, without affecting the rest of your library.
• Deleted books remain removed after BookDeck is closed and reopened.

### 3.1.0 — 2026-08-01

Every book, right where it belongs.

Playback
• Each book now keeps its listening position to itself. A newly added title no longer picks up the place from the book you were just playing.
• Unreadable or damaged audio no longer looks like a completed track. BookDeck stops cleanly instead of moving ahead unexpectedly.

Audiobookshelf
• Signing in, reconnecting, and returning after time away now keep BookDeck tied more reliably to your Audiobookshelf connection.
• Downloads recover more dependably after a renewed connection or relaunch, and cover art stays matched to the server you are using.
• Search follows you while you browse inside Audiobookshelf, then starts fresh after you leave.

Navigation
• When BookDeck reopens directly to the player, swipe back returns you to your library the way it should.

### 3.0.0 — 2026-07-15

A smoother listen, from first chapter to last.

Playback
• Books split across multiple files now flow seamlessly from one track to the next, keeping the correct chapter on screen in BookDeck, on the Lock Screen, and in CarPlay.
• Skip ahead, jump between chapters, or drag the progress bar — BookDeck lands where you expect, even when chapter progress is enabled.
• Your playback speed stays with you across every chapter and track, including on the Lock Screen and in CarPlay.
• Reopen BookDeck after a force-quit and it returns to the position and speed you left. The sleep timer's gentle fade remains smooth through the final moment.

Audiobookshelf
• Stay signed in through long listening sessions and time away from the app. BookDeck quietly renews your connection in the background.
• Downloads keep moving when that connection renews, rather than stopping partway through.
• If you connected Audiobookshelf in an earlier version, a one-time Reconnect prompt moves you onto the new, steadier connection.

Reliability
• BookDeck's playback foundation has been rebuilt for more dependable listening across calls, Siri, AirPods, Bluetooth, the Lock Screen, and CarPlay — while preserving the familiar player and controls you already know.

### 2.2.6 — 2026-06-17

Wherever it stops, it starts back right.

Reliability
• After any interruption — a phone call, Siri, an alarm, a notification read aloud, or a voice reply to a text — playback comes back more reliably and lands at exactly the right spot, even when interruptions stack up back to back. If it can't pick up on its own, one tap on play puts you right back in place — never at the start, never somewhere random.
• If your AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones drop out mid-interruption, BookDeck stays quiet instead of suddenly blasting through the phone speaker. Reconnect and it picks right back up where you left off.
• Play and pause from the Lock Screen, Control Center, CarPlay, and the Home Screen widget feel more responsive — fewer presses that seem to do nothing, and rapid taps settle cleanly instead of sticking.

Refinements
• Smart Rewind got smarter. The gentle rewind after a long pause now respects chapter boundaries, so it never pulls you back before the start of the chapter you're in.
• Your place is now remembered across launches, so that gentle rewind works correctly even after the app has been fully closed and reopened.

### 2.2.1 — 2026-05-30

Steadier through every interruption.

Reliability
• Phone calls, Siri, and alarms no longer leave playback in a strange state — BookDeck resumes only when iOS says it's safe, and stays put when it shouldn't.
• Back-to-back interruptions can't trigger a surprise resume; the player picks up cleanly, from a few seconds before you were interrupted.
• When playback can't recover, the Lock Screen and Now Playing correctly show a stopped player instead of a stale one.
• Returning after a long time in the background re-syncs your position more accurately.

Thank you for listening with us.
