It's wonderful. I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. I've often thought to myself that it would be a good thing if, whenever I paid money for a book, I had to allocate the time to read it in the same transaction. (So many books, so little time...) BookHabit is a step toward that goal. This app looks good and works well. The built-in bar code reader makes it easy to use. ### 5/5 — great app for readers *2011-03-29* the ability to track all the books you're reading and have read in one place is great. the only thing that would be nice to see in future updates is the ability to import csv files so if you already have a large list of books available in another program it can be brought into this one. otherwise, this is an awesome first effort and i'm looking forward to future updates. :) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Doesn't work *2011-07-19* This app sounds like it has a lot of potential but every time I try to do anything in the app it crashes, very disappointing ### 1/5 — Doesnt work by any measure *2011-04-20* Version 1.00 would crash whenever adding a book (regardless of how) and now with version 1.01, the app fails to load properly. If I wanted to throw money away on something that does not fulfill it's purpose, i would donate to politicians. The author is nice in communication, however at the end of the day, this doesnt work and isn't free! ### 2/5 — Hmmm... was good for a little while *2012-08-25* I was an enthusiastic user of this app for three weeks. The design is attractive and effective. But then when I finished my first book and tried to update the book entry, a bug appeared, the app stopped displaying any chart data, and ever since it has abruptly crashed every time I try to use it. I would delete the app and re-install but I already have a lot of books (and cover photos) loaded into the app and I don't want to lose my data. An e-mailed bug report to the author from three days ago hasn't been answered. I'm still hoping (it is the time of year for vacations, after all)--but the app itself hasn't been updated in almost a year, so I can't exactly say my hopes are high. If the author demonstrates more interest in working on this app (and fixing its bugs), I may return to it. For now, I'm defecting to Goodreads, which seems more reliable, better supported, and has a corresponding website. Reliability of data is paramount. I really don't want to record reading data in an app like this for six months or more and have it all go *poof*. In that respect, I suppose I'm lucky BookHabit flaked out on me as early as it did. **Developer response:** We are certainly sorry to see you go, but if others are wondering, BookHabit is still going strong, with several ways to make sure your data never goes *poof* on you. (The bugs mentioned here have long ago been taken care of.) ### 3/5 — Needs Integration *2018-02-16* This is a decent app, especially the visualizations. However, it cannot compete with Goodreads for social sharing. If they utilized the Goodreads API to sync shelves and progress, I would use this app happily and it would easily be 5 stars. ### 3/5 — I'm a little frustrated... *2011-05-11* I love this app but it doesn't stay open very long. I have to hand enter all of my books (1 at a time and quickly) because the app closes if I try to type in the ISBN # or scan the barcode. I can open the library but if I select and of the options the app closes. If I could just navigate through the app without it closing all of the time then it would be perfect!! I'm hanging on to it in hopes this problem will get fixed :) ### 3/5 — Good for statistics & personal notes *2011-04-16* I do like this app, but it isn't much use for books you've read in the past. Some additional features that allow you to vary dates, genres & add tags would be great. But it's an awkward multistep process to add books that you have already read, and there is no breakdown by genre. Better app for starting to track what you are reading, but not for doing an inventory of one's personal library. ### 4/5 — Love it *2011-05-15* I really like this app. I have a huge library and needed a way to keep track of it especially when checking to see if I own a particular book when at the bookstore. Would like it to have a wish list I can add books to. Really really needs to have a search by author not just by genre. They got back to me right away. I was super impressed. The problem was with my phone and not the app and it’s working perfectly again. I really like BookHabit. I’ve most of my library on it and keep track of what I’m reading and where and later on how much I’ve read and when. I’ve added magazines to the app when I had multiple on the go at once. I use it for reference of what I’ve read of an author, and which ones I own. It’s available offline so no need for internet when in the depths of a library or bookshop. I love that they're easily accessible on the road when looking up quotes or info for a presentation and for my book club. Helps me keep on pace for what I'm reading, and not forget about books I had to put down. Gives me a beautiful view of my library and what I'm reading. I especially like that it asks me to rate the book as i read it instead of at the end - it's giving me a more honest/true rating of the book. Haven't yet used it the built in bibliography/citation exporter. But nice feauture - would have been nice to have that back in grad school. ### 5/5 — Great app for book lovers! *2017-01-27* Highly recommended. I've used this app for years and I'm thrilled that it's been updated for iOS 10-thanks, HyperJeff! Social apps for books are all fine & dandy-I use them-but BookHabit is the best if you just want to track your own personal reading, keep a personal book journal and read more! You can customize your lists and keep running notes as you read (you can share your notes if you wish). The graphs are the best! If you love to read, get this app! ### 5/5 — Gorgeous app! *2013-03-10* I hope to become a power user of this terrific app, which also means I'd better make time to read!!! A recent update caused difficulty opening the app, but I received full and speedy email replies to the status and ETA of a fix, which worked like a charm. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a place to log their library and track their reading.
