Lately I have realized it is not reliable. I don’t always have my computer in hand to search for books. Especially when it’s bookfair time. There are some books I can find on Renaissance but not through the app. I’d love to be able to add check marks to books my son has tested on. It is great when it works, which is much of the time. I bought this book not three months ago, from Amazon, it has a clearly identical ISBN on the back. Despite these facts, this app could not find the book and when I tried to do a manual surgery crapped out. We do find that some barcodes are not listed on the AR website even though the book can be found by title and author. We offer the ability to search by title and author if the ISBN can't be found, but sometimes that still isn't successful. In these cases, there is sometimes a second barcode inside the book on the first few pages; quite often this barcode will scan successfully. I appreciate the feature request and will certainly incorporate it into the list of possible options for future versions. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Scam *2026-08-19, version 4.4* I paid $39 for this app and there are way too many books that can’t be found. It’s also very slow. 100% waste of money. There’s a fee website that I found after spending money on this app that is able to level the books that this scanner “couldn’t find.” Please don’t waste your money. Why is it faster to type in the ISBN then it is to scan it? Why do so many books need to be manually searched that are years old? Why do I need to search the same book over and over? Once it’s found, all other copies should register. I could go on and on! Once I downloaded the app and paid for it, I found that you have to pay extra for that information. You barely get any info for the price of the app, unless you pay extra. My students can easily find books are better fit with their reading levels along with giving them more independence and control during their weekly book shopping time. Even my students can use the app to check for quiz numbers for almost any book they pick up. I love, too, how I can quickly find the levels for books I wish to use for small groups and book clubs.
