Bookshelves feels fresh, full featured and visually unobtrusive, while managing to stay out of your way. One negative that I suspect will be easy to fix is the forced "Discover" section - this makes the app feel less like a personal reader and more like a vaguely disguised marketing ploy. One should be able to turn it off completely. Oh, and the "analytics" off-switch is a very nice touch - it is highly appreciated! Overall, a great little app at a very affordable price. ### 5/5 — among the best and actively developed *2026-04-23* Where this ebook reader rules supreme is in library management. The reader mode is also very pretty but limited due to classic page flip mechanics. This app is a beautiful breath of fresh air in an era of en****ification. It’s software that respects the user. Collect, organize, and read your books. Sync between devices. The integrations with Standard Ebooks, public domain, and Internet Archive are chef’s kiss. It’s all just so lovely.

No way. unfortunately I paid already. :-( **Developer response:** This issue was already fixed in version 1.0.13 (April 2026). iCloud import has worked reliably since then. Please update the app and try again. If you still have problems, contact us at getbookshelves.app/feedback -- we'll help you directly. ### 2/5 — Be aware.. *2026-08-22* Wasn't immediately obvious, but this is one of these apps that won't let you export (or directly manage your files). Completely unacceptable, not sure what the developer was thinking. I wasted my time in vain trying to liberate my books. No go. Good thing I have them in more than one place. Good news on the Discover section: version 1.0.24 adds a toggle in Settings to hide it completely. And thanks for noticing the analytics switch. ### 2/5 — Very primitive *2026-08-18* Cannot import directly to a bookshelf. Cannot select multiple books to move to a shelf in a single move. Basically all your books are on a single shelf but if you want them to be on different shelf’s you have to move them one book at a time which is not an option if you have hundreds of books. **Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback. You're right that multi-select for organizing books into shelves is missing on iOS. This is already supported on macOS, and bringing it to iOS is a high priority. Importing directly into a specific shelf is also on the list. Both will arrive in upcoming updates. ### 2/5 — Needs work *2026-04-28* The app only offers a single format style: the text runs from one edge of the screen to the other with no page breaks at all. I don't know if this is because it was written for the iPhone with little or no thought how it would function on an iPad but I find scanning a paragraph from one edge of the screen to the other incredibly tedious. Hopefully future updates will remedy this problem. **Developer response:** Hi, thanks for the feedback. Since your review we've shipped several updates that address this -- v1.0.23 added a continuous scroll reading mode as an alternative to pagination, and we've added more controls for margins, line spacing, and paragraph spacing. The reading experience on iPad is much improved. If you get a chance to try the latest version, we'd love to hear how it works for you. ### 2/5 — Huge potential *2026-04-23* There's a lot to be excited about with this app. The library is great and much better than other book apps. I'm happy that exporting highlights seems to preserve headings and works well. Unfortunately the actual reader is janky to use, especially selecting text interfering with page turns, and layout/theme/font settings. The reading progress bar also seems to be bugged as well and not accurate. Oh and iCloud sync is pretty bad... my entire library just duplicated itself! Still hopeful... this can all be fixed; then this could be the best book app. **Developer response:** Hi, good news -- every issue you mentioned has been fixed. Text selection no longer interferes with page turns (1.0.23), the reading progress bar was completely rebuilt to be accurate and stable across sessions (1.0.26), and the iCloud sync duplication bug is resolved (1.0.27). Die App wird aktiv weiterentwickelt. ### 3/5 — Needs bulk operations on IOS. *2026-08-03* This app does a nice job of offering public domain books to read with a decent choice of fonts and formatting with more theme options when upgraded to the Pro level. The free version limits you to 10 books. Unfortunately, there are no functions provided to work with multiple books at a time on iPad, whether adding them to user defined bookshelves or deleting. For me at least, the ability to select multiple books for management operations such as categorizing or deleting books is an essential feature. I upgraded to Pro and added a bunch of the public domain books before noticing this functionality omission when I set out to organize them. Disappointing. I hope someday the developers will add this ability to the app. In the meantime, the hunt continues… **Developer response:** Thank you for the feedback and for upgrading to Pro! You're absolutely right -- multi-select for bulk operations like deleting and organizing books into shelves is missing on iPad. This is already fully supported on macOS, and bringing it to iOS is on our short list. A couple things that I think would make it perfect: 1. More style and layout options for the reader (paragraph margin, word and character spacing, 2-panel layout on iPad & Mac, etc.). 2. Der BookShelves E-Book Reader bietet hier eine wesentlich bessere Katalogisierung als die Bücher App von Apple. Man kann hier Bücher gleich mehreren unterschiedlichen Kategorien gleichzeitig zuordnen, und man kann auch Bücher herausfiltern, die noch keine Kategorie zugeordnet sind. Die Darstellung erfolgt entweder als Doppelseite oder als Einzelseite. Was noch fehlt: man sollte die Reihenfolge der Kategorien (bzw. Bücherregale) ändern können. Im Moment liegen sie in der Reihenfolge, in der man sie angelegt hat. **Developer response:** Vielen Dank! Glad it's useful for you. ### 5/5 — Great app for organizing your ebook library *2026-06-01* I’ve been using BookShelves for a while now and honestly it's one of those apps that just does what it says it does, really well. My ebook collection is finally actually organized and easy to browse. The design looks great and feels clean. Nothing cluttered or confusing, everything is where you'd expect it to be. I mostly use it to organize my ebooks and it handles that perfectly. No complaints there at all. Also really excited for some of the upcoming features.
