## What is BookWave?

BookWave is a simple, beautiful way to read and listen to EPUBs, PDFs, and scanned book pages—no accounts, no clutter, just your books.

IMPORT OR SCAN YOUR BOOKS

Add any DRM-free EPUB or PDF to BookWave, and it appears on your shelf in seconds. You can also scan pages from a printed book, turn them into text, and create your own EPUB. Your library is yours: organize books into folders and keep everything in one place.

LISTEN TO ANY BOOK

BookWave reads your books aloud with natural-sounding voices, entirely on your device. When available, words are highlighted as they’re spoken, so you can follow along or switch between reading and listening anytime. Playback continues in the background, so you can listen while walking, commuting, or with the screen off.

EVERYTHING STAYS IN SYNC

Your library, reading progress, highlights, and bookmarks sync privately between your iPhone and iPad through iCloud. Start reading a chapter on one device and continue from exactly where you left off on another. No registration, no accounts, no third-party servers.

SAVE WHAT MATTERS

Save important passages as highlights. Your highlights and bookmarks stay with the book across all your devices.

TRACK YOUR READING

See how much you read and listen each day, and watch your reading habit grow.

20 CLASSICS INCLUDED

Start reading right away with a free built-in library of classic EPUB books—including Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Around the World in Eighty Days, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, and many more.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

BookWave has no accounts and no tracking. Your books and reading data live on your device and in your personal iCloud—nowhere else.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-08-16

Reading now looks the way you want.

BookWave has a new Reading Style page in Settings:
• Four page themes, seven fonts, and the size you like
• Weight, margins, alignment, and spacing down to the letter
• A live page at the top shows every change as you make it

Plus, your highlights do more now. Tap one in your library to jump straight to it in the book, or share it as a quote card, your line on paper with the book and author beneath it.

Also in this update: BookWave has a new icon, soft and fluffy.

Happy reading!

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-03

iCloud sync is quicker and lighter now.

Your books, highlights and place in a book move between devices faster, and use much less data getting there.

Happy reading!

### 1.3 — 2026-08-02

BookWave now speaks Arabic and Hebrew.

Both languages read right to left, and now so does the app:
• Pages turn the right way, and progress fills from the right
• Buttons, menus, and reader controls mirror to match
• That brings BookWave to 21 languages, all in Settings

Plus, folders are safer now. Emptying a folder no longer removes it, it stays until you delete it yourself. Rescanning a book is smoother too.

Also in this update: Support has its own page in Settings, tips no longer pass your taps through to the book behind them, and the app has a softer, rounded look throughout.

Happy reading!

### 1.2 — 2026-07-25

Listening just got a lot faster.

BookWave now does about a third of the work while it reads to you:
• Page turns are quick and smooth, with no stutter mid-sentence
• Page numbers keep counting in the background without slowing playback
• Long listening sessions are easier on your battery

Plus, the screen now stays on for the first 10 minutes of listening, then turns off as usual. Your book keeps playing.

Also in this update: the rename field above the keyboard looks cleaner and feels more native, and Settings now explains where to manage Premium in your device subscription settings.

Happy listening!

### 1.1 — 2026-07-19

Reading on your Mac just got a lot better.

BookWave now feels right at home with a mouse or trackpad:
• Click the edges of the page to turn it, or the middle to hide the controls
• Select text and right-click to highlight, copy, or share it
• Click any highlight to change its color, share it, or remove it

Plus, the Highlight menu is now translated into all supported languages.

Happy reading!
