It would be better if more features were free though. I worry that if I stop paying, I might lose my saved books. The free version is still nice for basic tracking, but it’s disappointing that you don’t get book recommendations. **Developer response:** Don’t worry even if you cancel your subscription, you won't lose any of your saved books. You will always be able to access your data and continue basic tracking for free. You can not add more then 10 books without the premium subscription and everything you try to use a premium feature, it will pop up telling you to pay and if you click the cross, they will say you have a present and when you click on that, it will offer the same thing for cheaper. Overall, this is a great app but if you cannot pay, I recommend not downloading. **Developer response:** Thank you for your honest feedback! One thing that I think is missing is how to track a book series. As I had an iCloud backup, deleted and reloaded app. Backup didn’t reload my reading streak that was over 565 days. Also my library is gone and all the books I finished aren’t listed. All it kept was number of pages read. The reload also did not fix the search. So sad as I really liked this app!! ### 1/5 — No going back *2026-06-28, version 1.13.38* Accidentally forgot to log one day, your streak goes back to zero. No way of editing it. I got this app so I can track my reading and not pay membership fees. ### 1/5 — Pay to add books *2025-12-20, version 1.23.9* I was enjoying this app at first, but then when adding my book collection, I was stopped and prompted to PAY to add more than 15 books. I read one book and it wouldn’t let me read anymore for free, and unfortunately I am switching to another app ### 1/5 — Looooong onboarding process *2025-10-02* The onboarding process is extremely long and boring. The developer needs to figure out how to cut out some screens to make it more doable. For example, do you really need to ask users for the app icon and favorite shelf color in the onboarding? A lot of what is asked can be asked later or even better, never. Bury it in settings for users who explore. The worst part is I recently got a new phone and I had to go over the entire onboarding process AGAIN. It should at the very least store that in iCloud and spare me the pain of going through the longest forced onboarding in App Store history. **Developer response:** Thanks for the honest feedback! You’re right — the onboarding process can sometimes feel rather long. We believe it’s important for maintaining personalisation in Bookwise, but we’re already working on shortening it. If you’re using the same iCloud account, you can quickly restore your premium access and skip the onboarding process with one tap using the Restore button on the first screen (below the Continue button). ### 1/5 — Worst onboarding experience ever *2025-09-11, version 1.12.18* The app makes you go through 5 minutes of clicking “Continue” before you can actually get to the app ### 1/5 — Tracking reading is now behind a paywall *2025-09-06* This used to be my favorite reading tracker for the stunning visuals and reading tracking feature. Now that is behind a paywall, so I will not be using the app anymore as it forces you to buy the subscription. The free version was perfect before but sadly has gone downhill. **Developer response:** In Bookwise, tracking your first book is free. To track more books, premium is required — with a free trial so you can explore it first. Since the app is completely ad-free, subscriptions help us keep Bookwise high-quality and continue improving it for readers. Had issues recently with the search and the backup but the developer responded and is working through the issues. I love seeing the data and being able to easily scroll through my library and keep track of what I have read and what I want to read next.
