### 3/5 — Average App

*2021-04-23, version 3.0.2*

It’s hard to separate the hardware from the app but I’ll do my best…

It’s, as someone else said, primitive. Uninspiring UI coupled with out of alignment text, awkward phrase choices, and slow to update status.

I’m hopeful that if the time comes where a bike is stolen that the app will actually function. However, based on communication lag between the app and device, I’m not sold that I will be able to find it before they get it somewhere they can remove the device.

### 4/5 — App is Much Improves

*2021-04-22, version 3.0.2*

The app has continually improved over time and the customer support is great. I love the boomerang and the peace of mind it brings.

### 4/5 — Problems sorted out and great now

*2021-04-16, version 3.0.2*

Early versions of the software let the product down but as of April 2021 I find the product great. Arming and disarming is quick and effective and tracking works well.

### 4/5 — Bugs gone. Working well!

*2021-04-16, version 3.0.2*

Very pleased.

### 4/5 — Latest version much better

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

The product has come a long way since it’s initial version. The current version with latest firmware works pretty well and is a nice piece of mind if you have an expensive bike.

### 4/5 — Boomerang V2 Review

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

First of all let me say that any new device release is going to have a few weeks/months of improvements which is exactly what the V2 version of Boomerang went through. But, as expected, the unit works well. The APP interface was a bit ragged at the beginning but it has improved greatly since the first release. I'm giving this a 4-STAR rating because it's a quality manufactured device that works as advertised. Because they are constantly improving the APP and actively addressing the identified issues with the APP. Because they are in contact with customers, asking for and taking our input. Currently the only problem I've had with the latest release is that I had to turn it on twice or turn it off twice on a couple occasions. The screen always indicated the correct state of the device and the device always alarmed when the bike moved or was bumped. It has tracked every Trip accurately. I'm very satisified with this device and highly recommend it for bicycle security.

### 5/5 — Better and better

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

I follow the project for few months and those guys work hard to get a nice product. The app is bette and better and the battery life is expending. I always had answer when writing a email and now most of the answer can be find online or in the update email. People should be aware that’s a crowdfunding project not a Apple product.

### 5/5 — V2 Hardware Model Works Great!

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

Tried V1 and returned. The V2 model with new app update finally makes it work seamless and smooth.

Worked well when I got V2, but the latest update fixes my only outstanding issue of stopping the trip in progress.

### 5/5 — Good Support From the Boomerang Team

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

This app and the product it ties with has come leaps and bounds. The latest version is intuitive and works well to secure my bike from theft. The support team is personable and will work through any issues you encounter. I look forward to further advancements which are sure to come.

### 5/5 — V2 works well

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

I got one of the new V2 boomerangs with the newer app and have to say it works well and hasn’t had any problems. I don’t leave my bike locked up as much with covid, but the tracking and alarm system work well, and I’ve never had any issues connecting to the bike. The new updated app is simple to navigate. Only addition I’d like to see would be the ability to update the device firmware through the app, but from a functional perspective everything works well!

### 2/5 — Wrong date

*2021-03-24, version 3.0.1*

Last update date in the App is 1 day ahead of the current date, battery is draining incredibly fast in sleep mode.

### 2/5 — Absolutely horrible device and app

*2021-03-11, version 3.0.0*

I’ve had this piece of junk on my Ebike for months and it has never worked right. When I contact support, I’m told to wait for new app updates to fix issues. The updates are always released at least a month later than I’m told they will be. The updates don’t do a single thing to fix any tracking issues.
The tracking is 99% inaccurate and does not regularly track my trips.
Most of the time the tracking does not update location when bike is moved.
On the rare occasion I can get the alarm to work, I’m quickly reminded that it’s useless as it takes forever to be notified of bike movement, if I get an alert at all (usually I get no alert).
App, horrific.
Device, junk.
Customer service, awful.

### 5/5 — Security and peace of mind.

*2021-03-11, version 3.0.0*

I think the device and app have gotten a lot better with the new versions. The learning curve is not as steep, documentation/user manual have gotten better and customer support is better as well.
I bought this device because it gave me a sense of security and peace of mind and it continues to do so. Most of the problems I experienced were mainly because I hadn’t taken the time to understand how it functions. But, even my stupid questions were answered promptly by customer support.
Great product at a reasonable price.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Login password does not allow paste on mobile (or desktop). Whu?

*2023-08-23, version 3.0.6*

I don't recall ever using a mobile app that disallowed a paste into the password field on login. It's especially ironic that this is how the software of a security-focused device was designed. Any security-focused user is going to want to paste a strong password in from a password manager. The security-focused user is not going to want to create a simple password just to use the app and they are definitely not looking to tap out a password full of case-sensitive characters, numbers, and symbols. [disapproving head nods] C'mon.

### 1/5 — GDPR issues and 98% Unreliable App

*2022-04-13, version 3.0.6*

As of April 2022, and based on attempts to use the app daily since January 2022, it is very disappointing the app is 98% unreliable.
It yields incorrect status for boomerang gps devices (eg, when app shows active Bluetooth green “connected”, the readouts for the boomerang device does *not* match the lights on the boomerang device… so, when the device is “armed”, and this shows visibly via the lights built into the device + audibly via device alarm, the app shows it is *not* armed … and the app does *not* then control the device, it does not turn off the alarm, even when “connected” for hours at a time … same goes for device not being armed … fully Bluetooth connected app simply does not respond to device in reality … this has caused problems to the extent a neighbour was so cheesed off the boomerang alarm would simply not turn off, they used a push pin to reset manually, and the usb port/panel collapsed into the interior of the boomerang device, and can therefore no longer be charged.

The developers promised app updates “in a few weeks” back in February and have been 100% unresponsive to my emails requesting support since then, and no sign of the updates they promised back in February.

### 1/5 — Not ready for prime time

*2022-03-20, version 3.0.6*

Battery lasts barely one week without a charge. Alarm goes off as you try to disarm - not really useful when you are in a public place. Support is week, one man and a GPS device. I would not buy.

### 1/5 — Took 10 minutes to turn off the alarm

*2021-11-07, version 3.0.3*

This device is a neat idea but the implementation is terrible. The phone app is not communicating with the GPS unit in real-time — the alarm kept enabled despite it’d clearly said “alarm off” in the app, and there’s no way to force a Bluetooth connection between the app and the GPS unit to shut off the alarm. Connection between the app and the GPS unit is also hit or miss, the app constantly loses connection with the GPS unit even they are literally within a foot.

In addition, Boomrang indicates on their website that you can purchase the monthly subscription from the app. This is not the case as you are forced to signup for a annual subscription through PayPal when registering an account to use the device.

### 1/5 — It’s still in beta and buyers are paying for the privilege of testing it

*2021-08-19, version 3.0.2*

I love the concept and admire the developers for creating a device to address a serious problem. However the physical product, the registration website and the accompanying app have significant bugs and limitations. I don’t want to be too harsh as I suspect this is a small company with a small development and support team. I truly hope they continue to work on improving and addressing the problems as I’d like this to be a successful product. However “buyer beware”. This is product is essentially in beta and you are paying for the privilege of testing it.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2021-04-28, version 3.0.2*

I wanted so bad to like this system but it is clumsy, hard to use and is not reliable. I am using the most current version of the app and firmware. Here are the issues: It can't find the bike and will sometimes place the bike in a place i haven't been for days. The trip log will sometimes record my trip and dated for the next day. The "trip started and trip stop" commands don't jive with the requested command. It just feels like the app development is under funded and they stopped at "good enough". Here is the bottom line, if my bike gets stolen i can't be sure the " find a bike " is accurate..

### 1/5 — Do Not Buy This Junk

*2021-04-13, version 3.0.1*

This company is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. This GPS unit has never worked. Any complaints to the company is answered by false promises that the next update will fix all the issues. I have had this for almost a year and have high hopes for each update. Any rating above a 1 star is fake or confused.

### 1/5 — 5 months in and I’ve never had a fully functional device

*2021-03-10, version 3.0.0*

I placed my order October 23rd, 2020 and here I am March 9th, 2021 and the device still doesn’t function anywhere near as advertised.

It took 1 month to arrive to the wrong address (address was correct in order confirmation email) The replacement took several more weeks.

The app had crippling functionality (and still does) and wouldn’t consistently set the alarm or turn it off, I don’t know what’s worse. Of all the times the alarm went off (often without provocation) I received a text message only twice.

The features of the app, such as trips, location, and battery life were spotty and would function and disfunction randomly throughout the day. The battery life is also much shorter than advertised.

Making a Bluetooth connection at all was a game of chance and whether you were connected or not was indicated in the app by two notifications that often contradicted each other.

The tiny screws that hold the device together aren’t thread locked and fall out when riding (due to vibration). This leaves the device less than waterproof.

The device eventually started making less and less coherent LED flashes and noises until they became completely random. The reset button also stopped responding and prevented the firmware from being updatable.

Getting a replacement unit (as promised in the warranty) is a benefit only to the most persistent callers, emailers, and website messagers. No simple task for the meek. Customer support is under the fallacy that all problems with the unit are from the app software/ device firmware and can all be cured through updates. To convince them (I’ve only received a response from one guy) otherwise is no simple task. Prepare your arsenal of evidence and be ready to use it in the long weeks ahead.

If any of this sounds like any trouble, know that the customer support is much worse. Getting a response at all is cause for celebration (it’s possible there is only one person running this whole “company”). When you do get a response it’s often from one that did not read your email and thought it appropriate to grant you a irrelevant response or the all too common “wait for the updates (in the months to come) and everything will be fixed”

Here now, I’ve received my replacement device (due to warranty), the long awaited and long delayed App to Solve All Problems, and the new firmware update, and I can’t even login to the app or the dashboard on the website because my credentials don’t work anymore and the password reset function doesn’t work either (my credentials are correct) The only response I’ve earned so far is on the website messager where I’m told I “cannot be supported and need to contact us via email for personal support” while my many days of emails and calls remain unanswered.

We live in a world with such a vast diversity and quantity of products and I can’t believe I’ve finally found the worst purchase of them all. Attaching a bell to your bike that makes noise when it moves is a superior anti theft solution and almost certainly would have excellent customer support should something go wrong. There is good reason why you can’t leave reviews on the website, and why they accumulate here instead. If you see this, warn the others before it’s too late. Good products are more than just good ideas.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2021-03-09, version 3.0.0*

Still glitches with accuracy in tracking

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work as advertised

*2021-02-25, version 2.0.1*

There are several issues with this product that have forced me to a place where not only am I writing the first review I’ve ever given but I feel compelled to warn other people about this product and making such a significant purchase for something that doesn’t work the way it’s intended.
1. Battery life is horrible. At best it’s 2-3 days
2. Alarm won’t turn off. So many issues here
3. Location gets stuck on home location or last location and doesn’t update appropriately.
4. Notifications are massively delayed or don’t come at all
5. Communication with customer support is not good. I wrote an email expressing my displeasure with the products and desiring a refund and instead of being given instructions and an apology for my poor experience, I was only asked repeatedly why I wanted a refund. Make a policy that people can follow when they dislike your product and let that be it. I don’t need to express or write a narrative over and over explaining to you how you launched a product that fails to deliver the features you promised. And don’t tell me to wait for an update and that’s the solution to all of my life‘s problems. Either release a product that’s ready for the public to use or don’t.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Elegant, and lets me sleep at night.

*2023-10-26, version 3.0.6*

I started using Boomerang Bike in August 2023. Two months in and I’m extremely happy with this product. It’s simple, cheap, elegant, and is a highly effective deterrent. I’ve had to leave my bike in risky locations for stretches of several hours, and so far so good.

I had a few issues at first with not being able to turn the alarm on or off, but after reading the manual carefully, I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong (I wasn’t reconnecting to the device from scratch each time I wanted to control it). Since then it’s been plain sailing.

The stats on my miles and trips are an added bonus. Overall, this is a great device and app.

### 5/5 — Great Defense

*2023-10-12, version 3.0.6*

Mine has worked well fo 2 years. Also good to see trip stats

### 5/5 — Boomerang Bike GPS tracker

*2021-10-17, version 3.0.2*

I wish I had this product BEFORE my expensive ebike was stolen! I've replaced my bike and installed this on my new ebike and it works great! I can see where the bike is at all times on a map and if needed the alarm can be activated so that it makes a loud siren sound when someone moves the bike. This is the newer version, V2, and I’ve already seen improvements to the software as they fix bugs. Great product.

### 5/5 — Outstanding!

*2021-05-26, version 3.0.2*

This is the kit you need to keep track of your bike, i have installed them on my entire families bikes. The app is still in heavy devlopment, so expect some changes. I do recomend using a megentic chanrging cable to make life easer.

### 5/5 — Great device!!

*2021-04-09, version 3.0.1*

So I have been using the Boonerang for over a year now. I started with V1 and was perfectly happy and now there is V2 with many improvement and app upgrades. The device is very easy to mount onto your bike and the app makes using it simple as can be. You turn the alarm on and go. If during your absence your bike is messed with alarm will go off. If that is not enough to stop thief and they still take it with alarm blaring then the gps side of things kick in and you call police and go get your bike back. How great is that!!!! I HIGHLY recommend this product!!!!

### 5/5 — Cyclotrac V2

*2021-04-09, version 3.0.1*

I have had two Boomerang cyclotrac V1s and now own two V2s. 1st off—for less than $4 a month cell service for each bicycle it’s great peace of mind to know I’ll be alerted to any movement of the bike and can always track its location. The latest version of the APP works well to locate the bike, set “on” & “off” the alarm and see a road map of trip history. The alarm sound can be set to different durations depending on how stealth or revealing you want it to be. For me The APP does not seem intuitive regarding displaying the “on” Status of the alarm. The instructions explain this to say when the alarm is set to “on” and you need to turn it “off” you have to turn in “on” (even though the alarm is already “on”) then turn it “off”. With that knowledge I have no trouble setting the alarm “on” & “off.” My experience is the developers are focused on listening to customers and creating improvements to the APP and the cyclotrac’s firmware. Firmware is easily upgraded by Bluetooth or by USB cord. I’ve done both and prefer blue tooth. Charging is easy with the long cord they provide. My Ebike cyclotrac is always connected to the bike’s battery so I don’t have to remember to charge it. Yes—I have had some issues and I measure a company’s value to me by how they respond. Support has been over and above better than any company I have ever experienced. Early on a few years ago every text I sent was promptly answered. Now using email the cyclotrac is fully supported beyond my expectations. Email notices are routinely sent out to customers advising of APP upgrades & firmware upgrades. I hate that every parked bicycle has the eye of a thief on it. I hate that I need to have cameras and alarms at my house and in my car in order to protect my valuables. I’m glad cyclotrac is on my bikes.

### 5/5 — Cheaper than blood pressure meds

*2021-04-08, version 3.0.1*

There aren’t many affordable ways to keep a virtual eye on an irreplaceable family member - your bike! My family had one of the V2 trackers on each of our primary commuting bikes, and gets significant peace of mind from knowing the bikes are safe where we locked them.

Is the app perfect? Not yet. But it does everything needed to keep the bike safe, and the company is actively engaging with customers to improve any user experience challenges.

Old reviews on the App Store aren’t relevant to the current product. Not everything changes as fast as this one - but this one’s rapidly evolving.

### 5/5 — Getting better

*2021-04-08, version 3.0.1*

The app and device are getting better.

### 5/5 — Steady improvements with a solid core.

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

The app has been improving greatly over the last few revisions. The core anti-theft function seems really accurate in my testing. The push notifications come quickly if the alarm is set. The time to disable the alarm is still a bit variable and sometimes my kids set it off on our cargo bike because they are impatient.

Overall, it provides me the peace of mind that I’ll know if somebody tries to walk away with my bike quickly.

5th star comes from the great customer service in general. Boomerang listens to feedback and is responsive to their user community.

### 5/5 — New hardware and these new software versions

*2021-04-07, version 3.0.1*

The app works great and the hardware is fantastic, it’s awesome to be able to track, arm, & alarm my sort of expensive e-bike. Reviews before late 2020 are sort of irrelevant at this point, not sure why they didn’t just reboot to a new revision that would start over, but yeah, if you have a bike or even a motorcycle (i have one in my Harley also) this is a affordable great way to track and secure
