## What is Booxter?

A personal librarian, at your service, to go... and FREE!

Booxter for the Mac has always been the app of choice for serious collectors. Whether it's books, movies, music or comics, you will love the way in which your items are organized.

Carry your collections with you with Booxter from the App Store!

Scan barcodes with your iPhone or iPod Touch and send them to Booxter on your Mac!

(Barcode scanning can be done with books, music and movies; comic book barcode scanning is not currently supported).

Download the newest version of Booxter for the Mac, and enable Sharing in the Preferences. When you run Booxter on your iPhone/iPod Touch you will see your shared libraries and be able to export to your mobile device over a WiFi connection.

In Booxter on your Mac, choose either Item->Add Multiple Items… or View->Code from the Main Menu to enable barcode scanning. Then on your iPhone/iPod Touch, tap the camera button at the top to start scanning barcodes over WiFi. It's that easy!

Like the Mac version, Booxter will display your library and lists, and let you filter by numerous criteria so you can find what you are looking for quickly and easily.

Searching is also supported so you can find what you are looking for instantly.

### 4/5 — Close but…

*2025-04-10, version 2.1.1*

I’ll make this simple: Booxter is a great desktop database program but does a lousy job of sharing with my iPhone and iPad. Sharing simply does not work, so if you need this feature, you will need to look elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Waste

*2023-11-02, version 2.1.1*

I got this app to carry my library from Booxter on my Mac. I bought the desktop version for just that purpose. It was a $30 app - very expensive for an app, but I thought it would be worth it to have my libraries sync and have my complete library with me on-the-go. It does not work, so it was a complete waste of money. There should be refunds available for dissatisfied customers when the vast majority of reviews are so bad.

Update:: still a 1-star review, as the iOS version only shares with the Mac version. There is not a stand-alone app for iOS.

### 2/5 — Glitchy

*2020-02-02, version 2.1.1*

When it works it’s great. Importing libraries to iOS is next to impossible as it will not overwrite previously imported libraries even if you’ve deleted them from the app first. Sometimes it does but I haven’t figured out why or when it will grace me with an up-to-date copy on my iOS device.

The macOS Catalina version crashes with each save of the library, so consistently I save when I want to exit the program. Communication with the iOS scanner is glitchy - sometimes it connects, sometime not. A restart of both usually fixes that.

All in all, if I could get a refund I would.

### 1/5 — No drag and drop

*2017-09-25, version 2.0*

The drag and drop feature for web browsers (i.e. for Amazon purchases) doesn’t work at all in the latest release. Reduces utility to near zero.

### 5/5 — Great for scanning barcodes on books/CDs/DVDs

*2017-09-22, version 2.0*

If you have Booxter on your Mac, you can easily use this app as a mobile scanner for books, CDs or DVDs in your collection.

Thanks for updating it so it works on iOS 11!

### 4/5 — Great app, missing 2 big features

*2014-06-11, version 1.2.4*

I'd been using Booxter on my Mac for several years before the iOS version was released, and was very excited to see it come out. It works great, but adding these two features would make it mind blowingly great!

1) Live editing of the database - When I find that one issue I'd been searching for, I would really like to be able to open this app on my iPhone and click "Owned" when I buy it. The app would then move that issue from one list (my missing issues list created on the desktop app) to the list displaying those I already own. I don't want to wait to get home, edit the DB on the desktop app, and re-sync. Of course, it would also...

2) Auto-magically sync the whole DB via iCloud, Box or Drop Box.

Adding these two features would really raise the already great app into the stratosphere.

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2013-09-29, version 1.2.4*

Was hoping to use this app with the desktop software to keep a library. Getting books into the database so painful I'm just giving up. Need some instructions or something.

### 4/5 — Great App

*2013-09-11, version 1.2.4*

I love this app. It organizes my life! (At least, in terms of books.)
I use this app to organize my books, and sort them by fiction, hobby books, non-fiction. It works wonderfully, I click the 'add book' button, and it allows me to punch in all the ISBN's for all my books, and then I can take my lists with me when shopping, at a book club. all over! (You cannot read the books from this app, this merely organizes them.) I recommend it for people who have an extensive book collection.
I can edit information on a book if it is missing or incorrect. I can companion it with my computer and take my library to the bookstore so I don't buy novels twice. (Yes, I've actually done that) The only thing that I could recommend is that it be made available for iPads. I use it everywhere, and I would love to see it designed for the iPad. That's the only reason it is missing the fifth star. Happy Reading!

### 4/5 — If this appears to do nothing

*2013-09-09, version 1.2.4*

Scanning does work but it took me awhile to figure out how. When the app shows the ISBN and vibrates the book is stored and you then have to Bluetooth connect to the Mac version to get the books from the iOS app and into your library. So the app works like other barcode scanners - obvious once you know how and easy once you have the BT connection working. A simple help screen in the app (or even a guide on the website) would save this from bad reviews. To get the Mac library onto the phone you have to turn Bonjour sharing on in the Mac app preference and load from the Share button on the phone.

### 5/5 — Updated review

*2013-06-19, version 1.2.4*

UPDATE: I feel I should note that the most recent update to the program fixed the sharing/loading problem completely. It works like a dream now and it is one of the most useful things I have on my phone. Five stars.

The desktop application is by far the best of its kind, which is why the spotty performance of the mobile app is such a disappointment.

The problem is updating, which, in my experience works about 4 times out of 10 attempts. When it fails, the app is useless and won't even display any library. You have to delete the entire app, reload and re-install and start from scratch: and this will be unsuccessful at the same rate, around 6/10 tries. Just keep doing it till it finally works.

This is, in fact, the way I use it. Every update requires several deletions and re-downloads. If you have lots of patience and time, it can work. Just make sure you have an hour or so to spare when you attempt an update. In my experience, it always works eventually.
