## What is Borsta?

Borsta is a virtual drum and percussion instrument. What sets Borsta apart from similar instruments is that its audio engine supports a brushing feature that can simulate strokes and brushes with continuous changes in intensity. This makes it possible to create an endless number of very lifelike brushing phrases and rhythms, something that can’t be easily achieved with ordinary sample-based instruments.

The internal sequencer allows you to determine exactly when to start a stroke, how the stroke’s pressure/speed should evolve over time and when to end it. On top of that, each instrument offers a couple of multi-sampled one-shots with advanced choking capabilities.

The initial version of Borsta comes with 18 different instruments, but each instance of the plug-in emulates one single drum instrument at a time. That means the sequences can only be played one at a time. However, switching between sequences can be done seamlessly via MIDI, and additional one-shot samples can be triggered using an ordinary MIDI track.

Each instrument is structured and MIDI-mapped in a uniform way, which makes it possible to use the same sequence on any instrument. For instance, a traditional swing pattern will sound musically correct no matter whether you choose a Frame Drum, Tambourine or Snare Drum - it will just sound like the musician changed instruments.

Each instrument is based on more than 400 high-quality samples, recorded for playing with different velocities and round robins.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2024-01-03, version 1.0.1*

It’s my favourite drum app by a long way. Sounds realistic and a lot of control. If I had one complaint it would be to question the decision not to add further sounds in future updates - perhaps I’m being greedy or it just doesn’t make sense from a financial point of view. Regardless it’s a wonderful app.

### 5/5 — Nothing,oops restart

*2022-12-02*

Neat,works now with restart

Nothing shows up as a standalone nothing is available and it doesn’t show up as an a UV three,

### 5/5 — Something different

*2022-05-26, version 1.0.0*

For those who already own umpteen drum apps, this one offers some vary nice quality alternate sounds. Importantly, it also has the means to alter those sounds in rhythmically interesting ways, that don’t end up sounding like an explosion in a drum shop. What I would love to see are expansion packs as IAPs, featuring a range of untypical and standard drum/ percussive instruments. Ideally, able to be mixed and matched into unique kits.

### 3/5 — Text is too small

*2022-05-01*

This app sounds really good the sound is great.
The user interface has much to be desired the text in the app is very small. The control panel is also very small making it difficult
To press a button on the control panel without accidentally hitting another button. Hopefully these issues can be fixed in future updatex

### 5/5 — Beautiful, innovative & sounds scrumptious! 🦋

*2022-03-10, version 1.0.0*

Finally, a lush percussion app that caters to the iOS ‘au natural’ rhythm void (for moi at least)! I’m really excited about this and it made me smile within seconds of purchasing and exploring it! The sound engine really captures it and clearly has the potential to go so far via future updates and IAP’S (think… Indian, African, Latin, Eastern, European bespoke multi-sampled percussion sets et al)…

Also choosing to have each instance deliver a single instrument is Klever as it makes it modular (e.g. use only what’s needed based on your device) rather than having a very heavy AU instance! However, it can also appear polyphonic via MIDI switching (e.g. think of how the incredible Ruismaker Noir is capable of producing so much timbral variation and nuance from a single instance)!

I’m an unashamed rhythm fiend and own a library of gorgeous apps by brilliant developers the world over, which is why it’s wonderful to see this as it’s obviously very unique and builds upon the amazing world of iOS music producers out there by adding a new aural life form from a *very* different universe, time and place! So what happens when you feed this creature into other apps? I don’t know …but I can’t wait to find out! Very cool and way to go!

### 5/5 — Brilliant Design, Excellent Quality

*2022-03-10*

The engine and sequencer are very clever, versatile, and effective. The samples range for standard brushed snare to all kinds of objects that provide extraordinarily musical results. It also includes an exciting and delightful library of grooves that you can just listen to and jam along with. These apps from Klevgrand are so good!!

I'd love it if they could add some "endings" to their sequence library. Nothing fancy, not like a trashcan, but just those rolls or flourishes that percussionists do when there's a fermata at the end of a song.

### 5/5 — Absolute fantastic drum app

*2022-03-10*

This is truly one of a kind, organic and unique in both sound and features. It has completely reinvigorate my love for iPad music making. I highly highly recommend this one.

Two things I’d love to see are randomization features for the sequence and the ability to have a different amount of steps on the brush and hits for polymeter beats.

### 5/5 — Feels so natural

*2022-03-09*

Been messing with Borsta since it came out and I am so thrilled with this unique brushed percussion instrument. Everything feels natural and is so nicely customizable. Awesome work Klevgränd!
