## Newest reviews (10 of 36)

### 3/5 — Basic functionality good but not much more

*2017-08-13*

Missing capability to search for a bike not where you are, major missing functionality. Also would like to be able to plan a ride.

**Developer response:** Station counts for all bikes in the Subway system can be found using the full map. Simply tap the map icon on the lower left corner of the screen.

### 3/5 — Good app but no need for constant locator

*2016-10-09*

Has worked fine for me but I was concerned that this is always on locator service. No need for this and I don't remember terms changing. Give us "when using" option!

**Developer response:** This has been addressed in the latest version.

### 4/5 — Periodic single day user

*2016-08-02*

Love it. Do it in every city that has one.

Unlike another review I read...no major problems ever.

Other than bike availability (a problem in every city) and don't LOVE this app. Great at telling you what docking station is close. But I have trouble looking for stations nor close to me (as in...when planning for the day or where to park the bike where I'm going). That's the only reason I did not give it 5 stars.

### 2/5 — Significant bugs

*2016-06-22*

Frequently indicates free docks where none are available (seems to display broken docks/bikes as available). The band at the bottom of the Boston Bikes display shows the number of bikes and docks available at a station. However, ads often cover the band, rendering the critical information delivered by the app unreadable. Immensely frustrating.

### 2/5 — Needs to tell you how to map your route

*2015-11-29*

Why can't I simply enter my address and where I'm going and have it recommend stations to leave from and arrive at for the shortest route based on bike availability?

### 1/5 — Lies about open docking spots

*2015-07-12*

On my first day of using my annual membership, I tried to make two ahort trips. The closest station to my house listed on opening, so I took a bike. Unfortunately, the application lied, and the open slot does not accept a bike. Telephone support actually told me that my only nearby option was to return the bike to where I picked it up. They better refund my membership.

### 1/5 — Always uses location?!

*2015-06-22, version 1.4*

Why would this app always need to know where I am? No thanks.

### 3/5 — Great ap until ads started showing up

*2014-11-05*

The ads show up across the bottom of the screen hiding the bike/rack availability information when looking at the map... This seems to be an easy fix.

### 1/5 — CONSTANTLY using location service even when app is killed

*2014-10-21*

Even if this app is killed (double click home button and swiping up) it's still using location services and draining your battery in the background. Unacceptable. If this is fixed would be a 5 star app.

### 4/5 — Great app

*2014-10-20, version 1.4*

Calibration that keeps popping up is annoying

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2021-08-09*

Good luck on figuring out how this app works.

### 1/5 — Terrible system with blue

*2018-05-19*

Too many blue bikes at stations that is allowing more overtime fees across Boston proper. Rode my bike for 45 minutes and had dock the bike in Cambridge!!

### 1/5 — Simply doesn’t work

*2018-02-07*

Endless loading, no map. Ended up at 4 full docks because of it.

**Developer response:** You have to give the app location access for it to work. Please check your settings. The map icon on the bottom left screen shows the full system map, and status of every station.

### 1/5 — Outdated app, may slow down your phone

*2017-03-17, version 1.4*

Warning message about it may slow down your phone. Please update.

### 1/5 — Location services when not using app

*2016-10-07, version 1.4*

This is BS. An app like this that tracks location when not using the app is garbage. There is no need for that.

### 1/5 — Mostly wrong

*2016-09-12*

Dock availability is often inaccurate causing you to think it's one dock open and it's actually broken. Fix these bugs as its the entire reason why people use the app, duh!

### 1/5 — Spotty Service

*2016-07-19*

I rent bikes and cities all across the United States. Never have I had such a problem as I do with the Boston bikes. I purchased a 24 hour pass & got my first bike and then returned it 25 minutes later. Couldn't get a bike out for the rest of the 24 hours as it didn't recognize that I had turned the bike back in. The bike was sitting in a rack and I couldn't rent it from the same station I returned it to.

### 1/5 — Not for tourists or one-day users

*2016-06-15*

Unless you have the annual membership don't bother renting a bike, save yourself a bad experience and a headache arguing with tech support.
Here's why: the electronic system at the kiosks constantly crashes down, which is the sitiuation at a very large portion of the stations. So, if you're using your credit card to undock the bike, you won't be able to do so unless the kiosk is working, even if there are fully functional available bikes at the station.
Now, if you call tech support for assistance they will send you to another station, which most likely won't be the closest one since that will be crashed down too, so you will end up walking 12-20 blocks to find a station that will be working. What's the point of renting a bike then?
Bewarned that they don't process full or partial refunds.

### 1/5 — Don't require location access all the time

*2016-04-28, version 1.4*

Your location permissions are too intense.

If you allowed me to set location permissions to Only While Using the App then I'd keep the app. You don't so I'm deleting.

### 1/5 — Ads obscure critical info

*2015-10-11, version 1.4*

The advertisements now totally cover critical info on the map, like how many bikes and docks are available at a given station. Fail.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Minimal but Awesome

*2017-08-09*

Great app. Minimal but functional. Has key Bike-Dock avail info in close to real time.

### 5/5 — Dock it

*2016-09-07*

Love the app. Easy to find open docks, which can be the bane of renting.

### 5/5 — Very handy

*2016-07-19*

I use it all the time

### 5/5 — Great for Hubway

*2016-07-08*

This is very helpful

### 5/5 — Отлично для поиска hubway Boston

*2015-08-15*

Отличное приложение для быстрого поиска hubway station в Бостоне. Намного лучше Google maps, который часто ошибается.

### 5/5 — Great for tourists

*2015-05-16*

I found this app great while we visited Boston. It let us find stands with bikes when we wanted them, and docks to return the bike before visiting local attractions.

### 5/5 — Best Hubway App

*2014-09-20, version 1.4*

I think I tried all the apps in the App Store for Hubway in Boston and this is easily the best one

### 5/5 — Stellar

*2014-09-11, version 1.4*

Among the best bike share apps I've used.

### 5/5 — Awesome streamlined interface

*2014-07-26*

Boston Bikes really makes finding the few closest docks super easy… especially when using one handed on a bike.
