Naming your baby is a once-in-a-lifetime decision. Bothnames treats it that way. TWO PARENTS, ONE PHONE The hard part is not finding names. It is agreeing on one. Pass the phone back and forth and you each swipe the same set of names in private — neither of you sees the other's choices until you have both finished. Then the app shows only the names you both liked. If you still cannot choose, the decider runs those mutual likes head to head, two at a time, until one name is left standing. No second purchase, no second account, no sign-up for your partner. 16,423 NAMES, EVERY ONE WITH A MEANING • India — Sanskrit, Tamil, Marathi and other origins marked • United States, Britain, Latin America & Spain, Japan • Pronunciation, origin, and where else a name is carried • Search by name or by meaning NAMES FOR YOUR BABY'S BIRTH STAR For families who name by the nakshatra, Bothnames works out the birth star from the date, time and time zone of birth — the real calculation, with the Lahiri ayanamsa, done on your phone. It gives you the pada, the syllables that traditionally begin the name, and the names in the book that start with them. All of that is free. THE FULL BIRTH CHART (UNLOCKS ONCE) Behind the birth star is the whole janma patrika, the almanac page a family is usually handed on a printed sheet: • The panchang of the day — tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana • Moon sign and Sun sign, both sidereal, with the ayanamsa shown • Rahu and Ketu placed in their signs • The ratna — the stone of your baby's ruling planet, with the cheaper substitute the tradition accepts in its place • Vimshottari dasha, every period and its sub-periods, with dates TODAY, READ AGAINST THEIR STAR Follow your baby's star and each day is counted from it — tara bala and chandra bala, with the day's panchang. Worked out on your phone from the date, so there is no limit on how many days you read and no connection needed for any of them. FREE TO INSTALL All 16,423 names, every meaning, your shortlist, the head-to-head match and the names for your baby's birth star are free. There is no "unlock the rest of the names" — they are all there the moment you install it. The full birth chart, the ratna and the daily reading unlock with a single payment, once. No subscription, no adverts, and nothing metered: once unlocked, every chart and every reading is yours for as long as you own the app. NOTHING LEAVES YOUR PHONE There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing you type or tap is sent anywhere. Your shortlist, your matches and your baby's birth details stay on your device, and the birth details are not even saved between sessions. The one time Bothnames uses the network is the moment you buy the unlock, which Apple handles and which carries nothing about you or your baby. Everything else — every name and meaning, the birth star, the full chart and the daily reading — is worked out on your phone. Put it in Airplane Mode and see for yourself. ## Is Bothnames safe? All 16,423 names, every meaning, your shortlist and the head-to-head match — all of it, free, with nothing to buy first. The names for your baby's birth star are free too. Enter the birth moment and the nakshatra, its syllables and every matching name are yours. The full birth chart unlocks once. The janma patrika with the panchang, both sidereal signs, Rahu and Ketu and the sixty-year dasha map; the ratna with its upa-ratna; and a reading for every day. One payment, never a subscription. Already bought Bothnames? You keep it. The unlock is granted automatically when you update — no purchase, no sign-in, nothing to restore. Still no account, no analytics, no adverts and nothing tracked. Every name and every chart is computed on your phone, so it all still works in Airplane Mode. ### 1.3.0 — 2026-10-21 Everything new since 1.0 — this is a big update. THE FULL BIRTH CHART Your baby's birth star screen now opens into the whole janma patrika: the panchang of the day (tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana), the Moon sign and the Sun sign, Rahu and Ketu in their signs, and every Vimshottari dasha period with its dates and sub-periods. THE STONE The ratna of your baby's ruling planet, named with the cheaper substitute the tradition accepts in its place. A READING FOR EVERY DAY Follow the birth star and each day is counted from it — tara bala and chandra bala, with that day's panchang. A card above the tab bar carries it; tap for the detail or dismiss it until tomorrow. As many charts and as many readings as you like, for as long as you own the app. Nothing to unlock, nothing to subscribe to, and still no connection needed — it is all worked out on your phone. DARK MODE Bothnames follows your phone's appearance now. Settings has Appearance if you would rather pin it to Light or Dark. FIXED The names listed under a birth star took their turn through the syllables properly. They were ordered alphabetically before, so the first syllable filled the screen and the others were hundreds of names down. ### 1.0 — 2026-10-03 No release notes. --- *Data collected daily from the US App Store and indexed by [AppsHunter](https://appshunter.io/).
