## What is BoxBuddy?

Moving doesn't have to mean losing track of your stuff.

BoxBuddy turns chaotic moving boxes into a searchable, shareable inventory — so you always
know what's where, even before you've unpacked.

SNAP A PHOTO, BOXBUDDY DOES THE REST
Photograph the contents of each box as you pack. BoxBuddy catalogs everything automatically, building a visual inventory you can search later — no manual lists, no
guessing what's inside box #14.

TALK WHILE YOU PACK — BOXBUDDY DOES THE FILING
This is the part people don't expect. Say what's going into the box while your hands are
busy with tape and bubble wrap, and BoxBuddy doesn't just transcribe you — it reads what
you said against a dictionary of hundreds of household items and pulls out the things that
matter. The cast iron pan. The winter coats. The good glasses.

Those become searchable keywords attached to that box, and they print right on its label.
So the box that took you eight seconds to describe out loud is findable months later by
typing "cast iron" — and readable from the outside without opening it. No typing, no
stopping, no checklist. You talk, the inventory builds itself.

PRINT QR LABELS, FIND ANYTHING INSTANTLY
Every box gets a unique QR code label. Scan it with your phone to see exactly what's
inside — without opening a single flap. Print labels right from the app, or from your
computer at boxbuddy.tech. No special printer or extra hardware required — and printing is
included on every plan, free ones too.

SEARCH YOUR ENTIRE MOVE BY KEYWORD
Looking for the coffee maker? Type it in and BoxBuddy tells you exactly which box — and
which room — it's in. No more opening ten boxes to find one item.

SHARE YOUR MOVE WITH FAMILY
Moving is a team sport. Invite your partner, roommates, or family to your BoxBuddy
inventory — up to five people on one move, all seeing the same boxes, labels, and
locations in real time. One person packs the kitchen, another handles the garage, and
nobody loses track of anything.

NOT JUST FOR MOVING DAY
Keep using BoxBuddy long after you unpack — basements, garages, storage units, seasonal
bins, closets. Downsizing, renovating, or just tired of not knowing what's in the bins?
It keeps your household organized all year round.

BUILT FOR EVERY KIND OF MOVE
• Young professionals moving into their first apartment
• Growing families relocating for more space
• Empty nesters downsizing after the kids move out
• Anyone facing a divorce, renovation, or major life change

WHY PEOPLE LOVE BOXBUDDY
• No more "where did we put the can opener?"
• No more handwritten labels that smudge, fall off, or get packed face-down
• A searchable photo inventory of everything you own — good for insurance and home
records long after the boxes are gone
• A printable packing checklist that keeps your move organized room by room

HOW IT WORKS
1. Snap a photo of each box's contents — or just say what's going in
2. Print or scan the QR label BoxBuddy generates for that box
3. Search by keyword, room, or scan any label to find anything instantly — and invite
family to see it all too

START FREE WITH YOUR FIRST 10 BOXES
No cost, no credit card. Upgrade any time for more boxes, more photos, and Family Sharing.

PRICING
• Free — up to 10 boxes, 2 photos per box, printing included
• Single — $19.99/year — up to 1,000 boxes, 5 photos per box
• Family — $29.99/year — everything in Single, plus a shared inventory for up to 5 people

Single and Family are annual subscriptions. Most people only need one year — pack, move,
unpack — and you can cancel any time.

### 4/5 — Finally found the best moving app

*2026-07-12*

I’m so very happy that I found this app we’re moving and this is saved me and my wife so much time it’s so organized and just incredible to be able to have this type of inventory at our fingertips. The QR scanning works wicked and the whole functionality is just amazing

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for the raving review, we built this moving app to be the best moving app and also to be an incredible inventory app after you have completed your move and there is still a "Few" boxes left over. That's another game changer - when you're looking for your xmas decorations...

### 5/5 — It’s promising

*2026-07-11*

Let me start by saying that of all of the ‘moving’ apps this one looks to be the most promising. The others are just awful. Initially, I blasted this app, but after getting solid and cordial responses from Steffen, the developer, who’s been working with me to sort out some issues, I’ve re-written my review and upped this app to Four Stars.

Now, with that said, I’m writing this review early in the this apps life and I have had a fair share of challenges with it. Some of it has to do with the convoluted way that Apple associates additional email addresses to the actual ‘iCloud’ or ‘Mac.com’ email addresses they let to one’s Apple ID. The developer has attempted to make logging easy and to invite guests to join in on the +moving fun+. What we learned is that using Apple’s +Hide My Email+ alias is not a great idea at this juncture. It’ll cause you a headache.

All that said, I think this app will be the one to top. The others are so convoluted, I’d rather just track things in a paper notebook or an Excel sheet. Hopefully we can get BoxBuddy fully on track, and I’ll update my review and star rating, accordingly.

**Developer response:** Thank you — and I'm sorry.

You're right, and I want to own it. The invite flow required the second person to accept using the exact email their invite was sent to, so if they signed in with a different address, they'd land in their own empty account instead of joining yours. That's exactly the "hours and hours" frustration you described, and it was our bug, not your mistake.

It's now fixed. Version 2.1.6 (live this week) lets an invited member join the main account regardless of which email they use to sign in. If you update and try again, it should just work.

On the responsiveness: mail to me never arrived, and that's on me to fix too. Please reach me directly at info@boxbuddy.tech — I'll personally sort out your refund and set your household up with a free year of the Family plan for the trouble. BoxBuddy is a one-person shop, and feedback this direct is how it gets better. Thank you for pushing on it.

— Steffen, BoxBuddy

### 5/5 — Excellent App for Tracking boxes. Highly Responsive Development Team.

*2026-07-10*

In my original review, I noted several flaws that needed to be addressed, though I noted this was the best app available for managing your moving boxes. Within a week, the development team lead contacted me and resolved all the major issues I raised.
The product is actively being improved, and the development team is exceptionally responsive to user input. If you discover bugs or have functional suggestions, I highly recommend reaching out to their technical support.

**Developer response:** Hi there, Steffen here.

I'm the founder of BoxBuddy (it's just me behind the app, so your review landed directly on my desk), and I want to start with a genuine thank you. Detailed feedback like this is exactly how BoxBuddy gets better, and you clearly gave the app a real chance.

Let me take your points one at a time:

Auto-save: You're right, and this one stings because I can picture exactly the moment you're describing — arms full, mid-pack, and the box vanishes. Making box entries save automatically as you go is now at the top of my list.

Family plan: Good news — your husband shouldn't need to buy anything. Here's the flow: he downloads BoxBuddy free from the App Store, then instead of subscribing, he accepts your invite (Settings → Family Sharing → Send Invite, or the share link). Once he signs in through the invite, he gets full access under your plan. If that still doesn't work, that's a bug and I want to know immediately.

Printing & the QR freeze: We shipped updates this week that touch both areas — please update to the latest version and try again. If barcodes still won't print, email me and I'll troubleshoot it with you personally.

Your support email: This is the part that bothers me most. I've searched our inbox, including junk, and I can't find it — I'm truly sorry, because a week of silence is not how we operate. Please resend it to support@boxbuddy.tech with "App Store review" in the subject and I'll respond the same day.

And yes — your box inventory is safe. It's stored on our servers, not just your iPad, so it'll be there after your move.

Thank you for pushing us to be better.

### 3/5 — Quirky and parts don’t work.

*2026-06-30*

I didn’t find an app that was better, but this one has some quirky features that are really problematic. First unlike every other iPad program that’s been written, this one does not auto save. You can be packing and taking photographs but if you navigate away from BoxBuddy or look at something else in the program, all of your work for that box is gone—pictures, descriptions, everything. You must implicitly save the box or risk losing it while you’re packing.

- I bought the family plan and my husband has an iPad and he can’t log into box buddy or hit it from the web. The link takes him to a page where it wants him to buy the app. He’s on my Apple family plan so I should’ve been able to do it with just a single subscriber, but that didn’t work and now after paying for the family plan it still doesn’t work for two people.
Printing is also a challenge. I could not get any of the barcodes to print, whether print directly or sharing to Acrobat. I can see them on the screen, but they don’t print out . One workaround that worked was taking a photograph of the printout and then printing it out from iPad pictures. Also, when I scan the barcode, it opened up BoxBuddy showed me the box and then froze the app so I had to unload the app to look at anything else .
I see on various sites that many other people are having similar problems to me but BoxBuddy hasn’t fixed it. I wrote an email to tech-support which they advertise response in 24 hours, but it’s been a week and no response.
BoxBuddy sort of works, but not as advertised. You have to be very careful how you use it and don’t expect all the features to be functional. I just hope my box inventory will still be there after I move.

### 5/5 — This is a great app!

*2026-05-16*

I love this app for moving it’s the best I could find It was suspicious at first when their wasn’t any reviews but it’s a really good app for moving and packing! Only problem is that the subscription is too high maybe lower it more for both solo and family and also it tends to get zoomed it sometimes but other then that it’s really good

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for your review and trust at the beginning of our journey. We didn't want to use the monthly subscription model, and thought $20 for the App was easier. And we fixed the Zoom and added a bunch more features over the last month. Simply update your app and you are on your way.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2.4. — 2026-08-18

Faster setup, and a steadier app when you're packing at speed.

SET UP IN TWO QUESTIONS
Getting started used to take four screens, two of which only explained things. Now it's two
questions — what you're working on, and when you're moving — and you land straight on the
add-box screen, ready to go. Not moving? It's a single question. In a hurry? There's a Skip
button that takes you right to your first box.

THE QUICK TOUR MOVED
The rundown of what each toolbar button does now appears on your home screen after your first
box, when it actually makes sense, instead of before you've seen the app work. Dismiss it
whenever you like.

PHOTOS LOAD FASTER AND USE LESS DATA
Your box photos are now kept for the session instead of being downloaded again every time they
scroll back into view. Long box lists feel quicker, and your data plan gets a break.

SAVING IS STEADIER WHEN YOU'RE MOVING FAST
Adding photos and typing quickly through a big box could outrun our server's speed limit, and
changes could fail to save. The app now waits a moment and tries again instead of giving up —
and if something still hasn't saved, you get a clear warning before you leave the screen
rather than a line of small grey text.

DELETED PHOTOS STAY DELETED
Delete a photo while it was still uploading and it could quietly reappear a moment later. It
doesn't anymore.

CLEARER PLAN DETAILS
The upgrade screen now explains what you're actually getting: a year of BoxBuddy, and most
people only need the one. Pack, move, unpack, done.

ALSO FIXED
• Plan wording on the sign-in and invite screens no longer overstates what Pro includes
• Label roll sizes no longer read as a list of supported printers

Thanks for the reports — genuinely. Two of the fixes above came from one customer writing in
with enough detail that we could find the exact minute in the logs. Keep them coming, through
the app or boxbuddy.tech.

### 2.2.2. Your Moving and Family Sharing Inventory System — 2026-07-29

This release is all about polish — the rough edges you told us about, smoothed out.

STICKY NOTIFICATIONS ARE GONE
Scan a QR label and the "Box Found!" message used to park itself on your screen and stay
there. Notifications now clear themselves properly, and they're timed by importance —
quick confirmations get out of your way fast, while errors stay long enough to actually
read.

UPGRADE PROMPTS THAT BEHAVE
If you were near your box limit, the upgrade screen could reappear every time you added a
photo, and your box wouldn't save. That loop is fixed. The screen now shows your real box
count instead of a placeholder, and if you've been on a paid plan before, it tells you
plainly that your existing boxes are safe and still editable.

ONE APP, EVERY SCREEN
BoxBuddy on a laptop or tablet used to rearrange itself into a completely different
layout. Now it looks and works the same everywhere — same navigation, same screens,
whatever you're holding.

PHOTOS NO LONGER DISAPPEAR QUIETLY
If a photo upload failed in the background, it used to vanish without a word. Failed
uploads now show up with a retry option, so nothing is lost silently.

SHARED MOVES MADE CLEARER
If the owner of a move you've joined doesn't have an active plan, BoxBuddy now explains
that instead of offering you an upgrade that couldn't have helped.

ALSO FIXED
• Restore Purchases no longer says it worked when there was nothing to restore
• Subscription changes register immediately instead of waiting for a restart
• A warning before printing if a label photo didn't load, instead of a blank spot
• Abandoned draft boxes are cleaned up instead of counting against your total
• Clearer message when setup fails during onboarding, instead of a dead end
• Your box list no longer briefly shows another move's boxes after switching

Thanks for the reports — genuinely. Keep them coming through the app or boxbuddy.tech.

### 2.1.9. Your Moving and Family Sharing Inventory System — 2026-07-26

Your labels got a full makeover — and a lot more places to print them.

NEW: LABELS, REBUILT
Every label now shares one clear anatomy: room colour across the top, a box number you can read from the other end of a hallway, and a FRAGILE badge that's genuinely hard to miss. Fun, Detailed or Stealth — same good bones, your pick of personality.

NEW: PRINT ON (ALMOST) ANYTHING
• Avery sheets — 5126, 5163, 5164 and 22806
• A4 parcel sheets for the UK and EU — J8169 and J8165
• Thermal roll printers — Niimbot, Phomemo, Munbyn and DYMO-compatible
• Plain paper, 10 or 12 to a page — print, cut, done

SHARPER, ROOMIER LABELS
• Labels are now true vector PDFs, so text and QR codes stay crisp at every size
• Bigger QR codes that scan faster in a dim hallway
• Your box contents fill the whole label instead of trailing off mid-sentence

ALSO PACKED IN
• Tip of the Day now actually turns off when you turn it off
• Reached a limit? You'll get a clear upgrade prompt instead of a spinner
• Up to 5 photos per box on a paid plan

Happy packing! Ideas? We read everything: info@boxbuddy.tech

### 2.1.7. Your Moving and Family Sharing Inventory System — 2026-07-13

Moving is a team sport — and 2.1.7 is your family's MVP.

NEW: SWITCH BETWEEN MOVES
Packing your place AND helping Mom pack hers? Hop between moves in Settings → Manage Move. One tap, whole different inventory.

SHARING, SMOOTHED
• Invite links now take you straight into the shared move — no more déjà vu
• Shared moves stay selected between launches
• QR label links open right where they should

ALSO PACKED IN
• Sign-in that shrugs off storage-unit Wi-Fi
• Sign in with Apple? You can now delete your account in Settings
• Box counts finally agree with each other (math is hard — we fixed it)

Happy packing! Ideas? We read everything: info@boxbuddy.tech

### 2.1.6. Your Moving and Family Sharing Inventory System — 2026-07-09

Moving day gets smoother with every update. Here's what's new:

ROCK-SOLID PHOTOS
Snap photos, reorder them, and pick your cover shot — even while uploads are still finishing. Photo uploads are now faster and far more reliable, so what you snap is what you keep.

SMARTER LABELS & PRINTING
• Redesigned Print Setup — choose your label style, size, and quantity, then print your whole queue in one pass
• New Detailed label with unpack priority, so helpers know which boxes to open first
• New 12-per-sheet 2"×2" layout for Avery 22806 labels
• Fragile badge now looks sharp on every label style

SCAN & GO
Point your phone camera at any of your labels and jump straight to that box — now works seamlessly across shared family moves too.

PACK TOGETHER
Family Sharing keeps everyone on the same page: invite your crew and everyone's boxes are searchable by everyone.

Plus a refreshed home screen, faster printing from any box, and plenty of polish under the hood.

Love BoxBuddy? A quick review helps other families find us. Spot something off? We read everything: hello@boxbuddy.tech
