## What is Braille Tutor?

Learn and practice contracted braille (Unified English Braille) with Braille Tutor!

Braille Tutor provides an interactive learning experience for a sighted or blind braille learner. It works on iPad using onscreen keys or home keys on a Bluetooth keyboard. It is self-voiced, but also works with iOS accessibility.

The app uses sounds and text-to-speech to support vision-impaired learners. Using a Bluetooth keyboard also gives the user a feel of the keys.

Additional lessons are available as an InApp purchase.

### 5/5 — Good app, please update!

*2026-06-20, version 1.3*

Love this app, please update!! It no longer works and I wish I could still use it

### 1/5 — No longer opens

*2026-06-04, version 1.3*

I absolutely loved this app! It was a lifesaver when getting my masters degree! It no longer opens and I have yet to find a solution as to why. Very disappointed because this is a great resource.

### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2024-06-18, version 1.3*

There is no one to contact to explain issues which are frequent. Often you cannot move on through the word as it freezes and you have to close the app and restart, which isn’t always a fix. Lesson 29 the word cheese with the contraction only allows you to enter ‘chee’ so I can’t progress accurately.

### 1/5 — Not very useful

*2023-04-30, version 1.3*

Started with this app, lesson 1, it shows letters a,b,c and d- then asks you to type the word day! It hasn’t taught that letter yet? I’ll be deleting this and looking for an alternative thanks.

### 3/5 — its fast and frustrateing

*2022-06-17, version 1.3*

so when i downloaded i thought this would not be that bad. i am in visually blind so yeah but back to the point its really fast and its frustradeing beacuase everytime u get it wrong it saids it really fast please fix this thank you!

### 5/5 — Great Practice

*2022-05-10, version 1.3*

This is really great practice – especially the contracted braille. The only thing lacking is a BACKSPACE KEY. Should be an easy fix.

### 1/5 — Bad app

*2020-05-18, version 1.3*

It doesn’t work.

### 4/5 — Pretty great

*2020-04-29, version 1.3*

This so funny, for some reason my typing isn’t visible here!
I love the simplicity of the lessons, no fluff. But I would like to be able to see the braille cell without it giving me hints.

### 5/5 — Best App

*2020-03-20, version 1.3*

This app has been my saving grace! I use it at the end of a one-on-one lesson in Braille instruction. This has been super motivational! On a side note, I wanted to get this app on my students’ iPads but can’t find it in the App Store. I will keep looking as this would be helpful in remote learning!

### 5/5 — Really useful

*2020-02-13, version 1.3*

I started using this app two weeks ago to help me learn quickly and I have already learnt the whole alphabet. I have just paid to upgrade to learn the contracted Braille. It’s a great app and I highly recommend for sighted individuals.
