## What is Brain Games?

Alzheimer's Disease is the most common form of dementia. It impacts overall cognition and can affect memory, speech, and movement. In the early stages of the disease, those with Alzheimer's disease may lose everyday objects and forget names. By the end of the disease, many need constant assistance, resulting from a severe loss of memory and control over their bodies. Alzheimer’s disease is a global health crisis and cases are predicted to double by 2050. Dementia causes death in around a third of seniors. In some cases, symptoms don’t appear until 15 years after it starts to develop . To stop the disease from affecting millions more people, everyone should be aware of the different precautions they can take to lessen the risk of developing Alzheimer's.

Lifestyle interventions such as following a Mediterranean diet and strength training have been theorized to inhibit or slow the development of Alzheimer’s Disease. However, a specific intervention caught my attention in my research. The PACT or Preventing Alzheimer’s With Cognitive Training study tested the effectiveness of computer games on preventing Alzheimer’s Disease. Stimulating the brain through different cognitive exercises is thought to prevent Alzheimer’s Disease and this was certainly seen in the PACT study. The researchers stated that if this program was implemented globally, there would be a reduction of 9.2 million cases over the next 30 years. Playing games that use UFOVT, or useful field of view training, can help you strengthen things like memory and attention span. It is almost like exercise for the brain, and can reduce the risk of developing Alzeimer’s Disease. I set out to create games that would help people improve their cognition and that is why I created this app. This is by no means a finished product but playing games, especially compared to solutions such as pharmaceuticals, will not harm anyone.
