## What is Brainrot Tax?

Brainrot Tax adds deliberate friction before opening the apps you choose.

Pick the apps that pull you into doomscrolling. Brainrot Tax shields them with Apple Screen Time controls. When you want access, open Brainrot Tax and pay the tax: watch one rewarded ad, or wait if no ad is available, to unlock that app for a short 5-minute window.

It is not a gentle timer. It is a visible cost.

WHY IT EXISTS

Most screen time tools are easy to ignore. Brainrot Tax makes the trade harder to pretend away: if you want the scroll, you have to sit through a cost first.

The business model is intentionally honest. The app earns when you relapse. If you use your phone less, it earns less. If you stop needing it, it earns nothing. That is the point.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

- Choose which apps should be taxed
- Create your own groups, such as Social, Video, or Games
- Turn taxes on or off for different groups
- Unlock one app at a time for 5 minutes
- Use the 60-second wait fallback when no rewarded ad is available
- See a local ledger of unlocks and ad seconds watched
- Keep your selected apps and unlock history on your device

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Brainrot Tax does not require an account. Your taxed apps, groups, unlock windows, and ledger stay local on your device. Crash reporting helps diagnose failures. Anonymous product analytics are optional and require consent.

IMPORTANT

Brainrot Tax uses Apple Screen Time frameworks. You remain in control and can change or revoke permissions in iOS settings. Communication apps may be important in urgent situations, so tax them carefully.

If you want a polite focus timer, this may not be it. If you want your doomscrolling to feel as expensive as it really is, Brainrot Tax is built for that.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 52 — 2026-08-17

Minor housekeeping release — no user-facing changes.

### 51 — 2026-07-16

- You now feel the tax: a haptic buzz the moment you pay to unlock an app.
- Cleaner, centered button labels.
- Refreshed App Store screenshots.

### 50 — 2026-07-15

A bold new look. The home screen is now a dark "ledger" receipt that shows, at a glance, how much time you've taxed this month, a 7-day trend, and your streak. The whole app has been redesigned for one consistent, high-contrast style. Notification settings are now a simple on/off toggle that reflects their real state.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-12

No release notes.
