## What is BRCu Skill Eval?

The BRCu Skill Eval application facilitates the BRCu, BRC2u-LW and 3WBRC Skill Evaluation performed at the end of the MSF Basic RiderCourse by an active MSF-certified RiderCoach. Please note that you must be a certified, and active, Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCoach to receive any benefit from the use of this application. If you do not have a valid RETSORG account, it would be a waste of your time and resources to install this app.

Rather than use the paper score sheet with a clipboard, pencil, and stopwatch, the app allows a certified RiderCoach to score the evaluation completely electronically. Scoring is assessed by tapping controls on the iPhone or iPad screen, with a logical progression of scoring screens provided throughout the evaluation. For evaluations 3, 4, and 5, an on-screen stopwatch is provided, but you are not required to use it – the time can be entered manually if you choose to do so. The Standard Distance for evaluation 3 is calculated automatically. During the skill evaluation, a student’s score is continually updated and displayed on that student’s evaluation page so that the RiderCoach has an immediate view of that student’s status. At the end of the evaluation, each student's score can be reviewed with the student (using an individual score sheet display on screen), and a standard MSF score sheet (individual, or group, or both) can be produced with the necessary annotations. This PDF form can be printed, shared, filed, etc. using standard iOS features.

A subscription is required to (1) start a new evaluation, (2) continue an evaluation that was interrupted before being completed, (3) make any changes while reviewing a completed evaluation, or (4) create a PDF of the MSF score sheet for any completed evaluation. Subscription options are offered from which to choose an appropriate subscription for your needs. (Note that you must have an active internet connection for the purchase offer and purchase completion to succeed.) If you only coach occasionally (e.g. two classes a year), the "Good for a day" non-renewing subscription may be all you need. It allows the user to use the app for 24 hours from the time of purchase, but does NOT automatically renew at the end of that 24-hour subscription period. The other subscription options include monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually. All of these auto-renewing subscriptions offer the first month of usage for free, to allow you to evaluate the app to determine if it is appropriate for your needs. Each will auto-renew at the end of the subscription period, using the payment method you have associated with your App Store account. You can change or terminate your subscription at any time up to 24 hours before the end of your subscription using your device's subscription management features in the Setting app.

After selecting the appropriate subscription, I recommend spending a little time becoming familiar with the behavior of the app, versus learning to use it on-the-fly during a live evaluation. Rudimentary instructions are provided on the Preferences screen for the individual scenes provided in the app describing the behavior and navigation of each one.

Benefits of using the app vs. paper/clipboard/stopwatch:
• Eliminate score sheets flying around in the breeze.
• Calculate scores automatically and reduce mathematical errors.
• Eliminate possibility of the paper score sheet getting wet and unusable. (However, you should still be concerned about the water resistance of your device.)
• Correct errors more cleanly.
• Reduce possibility of transposing scores into the wrong column on the group score sheet.

Thank you for considering the use of my contribution to motorcycle safety training, and for your efforts in the advancement of the sport that we love.

### 5/5 — Great App!

*2026-01-09, version 3.0*

Been using this in all the BRC classes I teach since 2021! Saves time, paper, and headaches!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2025-01-03, version 2.0.1*

This app makes things so much faster and easier during skills evaluation. One less piece of paperwork to keep track of while on the range. Very easy to set up, use, and share. I had an issue with creating a new eval, the app kept kicking me out. I contacted the creator and the issue was resolved almost immediately. Great customer support.

### 2/5 — App stopped working

*2024-10-23, version 2.0.1*

App stopped working and there’s no customer support to contact for help.

### 5/5 — BRCu - Year 3 Review

*2024-06-25, version 2.0.1*

I was fortunate enough to have been on the beta at the beginning of the app initiation. I have continually use the app in the basic, the skill license, waiver, and the three wheel evaluations. I easily use the app on my iPhone 15 Pro Max on my older tablet which easily syncs no matter where I’m located. There are many options of using the app from inputting the student names, range locations, RERP number and inputting scores. If you haven’t used the app or are indecisive,I recommend depending on your preference a one month trial to get used to the app and find out its many functions as words cannot describe is unlimited abilities. Having a clean copy to email and print as added functionality to the use of the app. I continue to use the app to this day and highly recommend you would not regret the purchase of the app.

### 5/5 — Great tool for coaches

*2024-06-04, version 2.0.1*

I love that I don’t need to juggle tools when administering the skills test. Everything you need is in the app. Thank you for developing this app!

### 5/5 — Follow up review

*2024-06-04, version 2.0.1*

This app is great. Especially when it is raining. No scribbles and I email it before we even start picking up the cones. As we go digital this is a great tool in my toolbox.

### 5/5 — I will use this app until I quit coaching.

*2024-06-01, version 2.0.1*

This app makes scoring the skill eval a breeze. Especially the quick stop. There’s no writing down the time then checking and double checking the standard then writing in the footage the student stopped in then subtracting the difference to find if any points are assessed. It’s tap to start the time, tap to stop, then add the footage the student stopped in. Everything else is done by the app. In the end you can email the eval to whomever you need to.

### 5/5 — MSF RiderCoach App MUST HAVE

*2024-06-01, version 2.0.1*

Working off iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 17.5.1 and have had no issues with this awesome app. In my third year using it.

I love the ease of use and the fact I don’t have to math. Saves me time, I wish it were available on Android devices too, more would use it for sure!

The only suggestion would be to have a way to back up the scoresheets when the app is used between devices. My older iPad still runs fine but I use my phone e for scoring more often.

### 5/5 — Must have app for MSF RCs

*2023-05-31*

Quick and easy to navigate and use. It keeps a record. I use it on iPad and IPhone. When done with test I can export and email it to our admin folks who complete the course packets. Easy to do all from the phone. Now just have the app on MacBook too and I’m all set. I am a site administrator and I use it to input a digital record of all my coaches classes. Absolutely love it. Well worth your time. Works in all weather conditions.

### 5/5 — Reduces paperwork.

*2023-05-30*

I use the app each time teaching. Helps me get over poor handwriting. I usually scribble. But this is easy to use and send via email or text before even leaving the range. Nice tool.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.0 — 2025-06-01

Changes in version 3.0

Enhancements:
• Added "eye" icon in RETSORG password entry field, to show or hide the password characters.
• Added support to share app preferences across multiple devices using iCloud Drive.
• Adjusted logic to allow editing of the initial time field of the 3WBRC Eval3 & Eval4.
• Changed minimum supported iOS version from 12.0 to 13.0, to add Home Screen Quick Actions:
	Start new evaluation
	Review last evaluation
	Preferences
• Updated usage notes to document the existence of Home Screen Quick Actions.
• Changed app launch sequence. Instead of presenting the subscription purchase scene if no valid subscription is active, the app will now launch to the initial class list scene, so that users who have cancelled their subscription can still review any existing evaluations already completed. A subscription is required to:
  (a) start a new evaluation
  (b) continue an evaluation that was interrupted before being completed
  (c) make any changes while reviewing a completed evaluation
  (d) create a PDF of the MSF score sheet for any completed evaluation
• Added link on About page to allow user to send email to customer support.
• When producing the PDF score sheets, "N/E" (for Not Evaluated) is entered into any blank spaces that would result from not registering a time for Eval 3 and Eval 4. (For example, if the student had registered an immediate unsuccessful score prior to Eval 3 and had not participated in the remaining skill evaluations after that point in time.)

Bug fixes:
• Implemented response to new RETSORG server requirement that a user's password must be reset every 90 days.
• Fixed color of edited text in time fields of the 3WBRC Eval3 & Eval4.
• Updated usage notes to document the ability to remove a default locations from Preferences.
• Fixed URLs used to access the Billing and Subscription Management pages of the App Store.
• Fixed bug that would sometimes purchase a different subscription than the one selected by the user.

### 2.0.1 — 2022-08-30

Bug fix: The page displaying the various subscription options would sometimes get confused about which price to apply to which subscription. The page has been educated, and should no longer experience befuddlement.

### 2.0 — 2022-06-04

3WBRC support!

### 1.1 — 2021-12-29

• Implemented vertical navigation in Evaluation sequence, to allow user to swipe up or down to go to the next or previous evaluation for the current student. Similar to the current horizontal swipe method to move from student to student throughout the evaluation, you can now swipe down to move to the current student's previous evaluation, or swipe up to move to the current student's next evaluation.

• Implemented different color backgrounds for each evaluation group.

• Adjusted program logic to prevent the "keyboard flash" while entering names during evaluation setup.

• Added confirmation dialog when cancelling from a skill evaluation setup when at least one name has been entered into the names table.

• Changed PDF annotation logic when both first and last name of student is provided to format the name within the name box on the form using two lines.

### 1.0.2 — 2021-06-03

• Addressed crash caused when a number larger than 127 was entered in the Evaluation 3 distance field.
• Added an alert to notify the user when a distance value greater than 30' is entered.
• When Evaluation 3 speed is too slow, the app will no longer automatically select the distance field.
• When the Evaluation 3 distance field contains just a 0, the field will be automatically cleared after the elapsed time has been entered (either manually or via the stopwatch).
• Corrected color of Beyond Standard Distance label in Student Review when either the time or distance values are changed.
• Fixed incorrect spelling in In-App purchase failure handler error message.
• Added display of alert dialog when RETSORG page load encounters a URLSession error (instead of crashing)
• Updated Product Support Page and Usage Notes to document ability to scroll list of Locations/RERPs on the Preferences page.
