Sometimes it won’t download episodes and/or play episodes. ### 2/5 — This app keeps getting worse and worse 😞 *2023-01-05, version 5.0.20* I’ve tried so hard to give this app chances to improve. I’ve been a user for almost 4 years, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. It doesn’t bother me that there are so many bugs, or that it doesn’t work consistently. What bothers me is that I see regular releases of new features when the core functionality of the app is incredibly unstable. Things as simple as playing back podcast from the last session don’t work. The UI for pop-ups literally obscured the buttons that you’re trying to use just to tell you that the app is switching to “nighttime mode.” This would be like your car stopping in the middle of the highway in order to tell you that it is turning on the air conditioning. 🤦🏾‍♂️ I have really tried. I have been a paid member, I have been a premium member, I have sent feedback, and the app just doesn’t get better. It’s like there’s no prioritization for the core functions of the application. No one needs all the bells and whistles. I just want to listen to podcast. I thought that maybe after the company was acquired, that things would get better, but really, they have just gotten worse…faster. Anyways, hopefully this review will save someone else four years of anger and frustration. Find another app. ### 3/5 — Closest approximation to the original *2022-12-08, version 5.0.20* *update* I had to drop a star and stop using the app for two reasons - the lost progress bug was getting worse and if you leave the app and come back to it, the UI shifts around and the options on the bottom of the screen cannot be selected. It is still better in theory that many other apps. /update I feel bad for those who never experienced the original Apple Podcast app in its glory. Breaker is a close approximation, but the bugs are frustrating. The lost progress/looping previously reported in other reviews still exists, and there haven’t been any updates to the app in quite a while. Even with these sorts of bugs, it’s still better than most podcast apps on iOS or android. ### 4/5 — Great Way to Organize Your Podcasts *2022-11-09, version 5.0.20* This app has great intuitive UI thats easy to comprehend and learn. Organizing your podcasts into categories is very simple. I have mine organized into categories like backlog, current binge, current listen, things like that which makes keeping track and listening very smooth. It works with CarPlay perfectly as well. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 is that sometimes when you have the speed set to 1.5 or 2, the app will create skipping like a scratched CD, so you only hear every other words. And while the plus service advertised sync across platforms, there is no desktop support. So I can’t go from listening on my phone to listening on my laptop. Other than that I really enjoy this app. I’ve used Overcast, Spotify, Apple Pod, Stitcher, Castbox. But their organization feature just don’t compare to Breaker. ### 4/5 — Search has a horribly low number of results *2022-10-18, version 5.0.20* When I search for martech for example it comes back with one result about biscuits? There’s literally a podcast called martech and it’s not coming up. Can you fix? Lovely app though. ### 4/5 — Very Good *2022-09-24, version 5.0.20* I like the way the queue is arranged, I can see the order they’re in, etc. I also love that it doesn’t automatically play anything if I don’t want it to. However, when resuming a paused a podcast the episode often starts playing at the beginning rather than at the point the episode was paused. 4 of 5. ### 3/5 — Good selection but has playback issues *2022-08-04, version 5.0.20* Sometimes the track I’m playing will rewind back to the beginning whenever I unpause. This is problematic with episodes that are 2 or more hours long and trying to find where I stopped is frustrating. ### 3/5 — Lots of bugs *2022-06-28, version 5.0.20* It has content but it’s not enough to make me go back to just Apple Podcast. What ever the “now playing” feature is just works really poor and it seems like a broken UI. It’s been 6 months since an update so I don’t think this app you are looking for. ### 2/5 — I love the app but the support feature doesn’t work. *2022-05-25, version 5.0.20* I’ve been trying to get ahold of Breaker because whenever I go to sort a podcast by oldest it never gives me their first episode. It loads a few episodes in. When I go to send them this support request it doesn’t let me tap on the send button through the app. So here I am, just trying to listen to podcasts from the beginning. I love the rest of the app for the most part. The categorization and the UI are great. But occasionally when I pause an episode and go back to listen to it the player will start it from the beginning. I wish there was a “play next” or “add to queue” option. ### 4/5 — Not the best out there *2022-05-07, version 5.0.20* The only reason I am still using this up is the variety of speeds to play compare to other apps. On the other hand the app is constantly eating data even if I download the episodes on Wi-Fi. The already downloaded episodes constantly start downloading again, regardless of where I stoped listening the app is starting them from the begging, so I need to reload the app again in order to fix the problem-very annoying and unnecessary even dangerous when driving ! ### 2/5 — So so and buggy *2022-02-23, version 5.0.20* App is just so so. The UI unfortunately retains most of the unnecessary complexity that plagues most podcast apps. It offers nothing more than free Spotify, which syncs podcasts between multiple devices, a minimum requirement that you must pay for here. The search is fair, not as good as most. The app is also buggy. On the iPad, Breaker gets “lost” sometimes, starts playing different podcasts instead of resuming the existing podcast as requested, then cannot move the podcast forward or backward using either the icons or the slider. You have to kill the app then reopen it to resume normal operation. I recommend that you keep on looking. ### 2/5 — Social aspects gone in latest update *2022-01-26, version 5.0.20* I have used several podcast apps over the years. Apple, Spotify, google podcasts, etc. I switched to breaker because it offered something none of the other 17 million podcast apps offered - a social experience. I could see how many other people liked an episode, which of my friends liked it, and participate in a shared comment on the episode. Neat! Well, after the latest update it seems they got rid of the social aspects entirely. Now it’s just another podcast app competing without a real differentiator. Why bother dealing with the rough edges now? I’ll be switching back to one of the big boys. ### 1/5 — Update ruined the app *2022-01-20, version 5.0.20* I’m going to delete the app. I used it regularly and loved the interface. They deleted all my history, meaning I have to manually go through and mark each episode listened. Can you imagine a podcast with 300 episodes, and I have no idea which I heard? There is no way to export my information. I reached out, and they have not done anything to help at all. It’s a canned statement about needing room on their servers. Also, there is an upgrade button when listening that seems to purposely be located in a spot you’d accidentally hit it. I listen while I drive, and I imagine this would be an issue. Best features are gone and behind the pay service. I’m switching apps and deleting. ### 1/5 — Don’t update *2022-01-19, version 5.0.20* This was poorly a handled acquisition, don’t update the app until you save your favorite episodes and listening history, it’ll be completely lost otherwise. This is a rebranded app of player.fm and it’s garbage. Not pre-warning users was a d**k move. This is actually validation of why you should just stick to apples podcast app or begrudgingly Spotify for your podcasts. Lame, very. ### 1/5 — Do not trust this app *2022-01-19, version 5.0.20* Do not trust this app with your data. I used to love Breaker, and used it for over 5 years. After the latest update, all of my listening, favorites and playlist history has been removed and the team refuses to share my own data with me. If losing your data isn’t enough, PlayerFM has also removed all the social features that made this app so special. I was so excited for this app to take off and now I feel betrayed and I am heartbroken. I have been locked out of my account for months on end. Reaching out to support gets no response. They “updated” the app to require you to reset your password to access your account again, but the link they email you is broken. Don’t bother paying for this app. It’s apparently just a money grab. Previous review: Social podcast app? No thank you. I don’t want to talk about my podcasts or share them with my friends. I don’t care what anyone else is listening to and I don’t care about discovering or searching for new podcasts. I have several custom RSS feeds for ad free podcasts that I pay for via Patreon. I want to import them to an app via URL, listen to them, AND SAVE THE BEST EPISODES TO A PLAYLIST TO SAVE FOREVER SO I CAN RELISTEN TO THEM EASILY. I have tried a dozen podcast apps and searched high and low on Google. I finally found this app through a Medium article and I want to cry. It actually works. Import via RSS works. Listening works. Adding my favorite episodes to the favorites playlist works, and I can customize the settings to keep the episodes from being deleted on listen. Finally. I have not been able to find a single other app on the internet that does this and it’s literally the only feature I wanted. And I didn’t even have to fork over cash to try the app. Well done. They need to show that they really care. When you have the mindset that you own the business you will do all that you can to keep the business and not just allow the individual or company calling in to just go to another competitor.
