## What is Breaking News Maker App?

Breaking News Maker is a community newsroom. Something happening on your street, at your club, in your town? Write it up and publish it — it takes a minute, and your story gets a real news page of its own.

WRITE IT LIKE IT MATTERS
Pick a desk — World, Business, Sports, Travel, Entertainment, Lifestyle and more. Add a headline, a few paragraphs and a photo. The photo does most of the work. Publish, and you get a link that opens as a proper news page, not a screenshot. Spotted a typo after sending it round? You have 24 hours to fix the headline and the text, and the link stays the same.

SEND IT TO ANYONE
Share the link in a message, a group chat, a post, an email. Whoever opens it sees the full story with your photo, laid out like a front page.

A FEED WORTH READING
Everything filed through the app lands in Latest, and the stories people actually read climb the Most Read board. Some of it is local reporting. Some of it is a rec-league final that went to penalties. Both belong.

KEEP IT TO YOURSELF IF YOU LIKE
Not everything needs an audience. Publish privately and your story stays off the public feed — it works by link only, for the people you send it to.

HOW WE KEEP IT SENSIBLE
Every story carries a byline saying a reader filed it. Reports are published as submitted and are not verified by an editor, and the app says so plainly. Photos are screened automatically before they appear. Any story can be reported from the app in one tap and is reviewed by a person, and you can block a poster you would rather not see.

Breaking News Maker is not a news organisation and does not publish verified journalism. It is a place for people to report what is going on around them.

## Version history (last 4 releases)

### 2.0.2 — 2026-09-12

What's new in 2.0.2:

• Behind the scenes: better diagnostics, so problems get found and fixed faster.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-09-10

Longer stories.

The app was capping stories at 4,000 characters — far shorter than the site itself accepts. That cap is gone. You can now write up to 20,000 characters, so a long piece fits in one article instead of being split across several.

Also fixed: an automated filter carried over from the original app had been hiding stories that used ordinary news words — "dead", "prison", "killed", "trafficking" and others. It has been switched off, and affected stories are being restored to the feed.

Thanks to the reader who wrote in about both.

### 2.0.0 — 2026-09-07

Breaking News Maker is a complete rebuild of WeReport News.

• A new look end to end — write, preview and publish in a newsroom-styled app
• Ten desks to file under, each with its own front page
• Start from a real headline off the wire, or write your own from scratch
• Shared links now open a proper news page with your photo, not a screenshot
• A Latest feed and a Most Read board so you can see what people are reading
• Private stories — publish by link only and stay off the public feed
• Fix a mistake — edit your headline and story for 24 hours after publishing, at the same link
• Photos are screened automatically before they go live
• Report any story from the app in one tap

Every article already published still works at its original link.

### 1.1.1 (4) — 2020-06-26

No release notes.
