BreakIQ turns free NOAA and Copernicus satellite oceanography into species-specific hotspot predictions for offshore pelagic captains fishing the US East Coast and Gulf of Mexico. Every morning, BreakIQ ingests the latest sea-surface temperature, chlorophyll, sea-surface height, and wind and wave data, then scores the water for eight tournament species — blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, yellowfin, bigeye, bluefin, mahi-mahi, and wahoo — using habitat models built from peer-reviewed literature. You get a map you can read at a glance and daily fishing-recommendation pins that tell you where to start. The boat you are on shows as a live track that keeps up with you even when the signal drops out, and the trips you have already run draw faintly underneath — so you can see the water you have already covered without leaving the chart. Your logged catches show on the map as well. Both are in the layers list, under LIFE. Follow a shared trip while it is still running. Open a trip someone shared with you and the track now advances as the boat moves, catches appear as they are logged, and the trip closes out on its own when the captain ends it. A line under the trip name tells you how old the last position is, and says plainly when it is your own signal that dropped rather than the boat sitting still. The captain's phone now sends positions while it is locked and in a pocket, so a trip no longer goes quiet for hours and then jumps. Also in this release: - A recommendation pin can show when a break is holding more than one species. - The 30 m subsurface colours are measured from the day's own water instead of a fixed range, so structure shows through in the Gulf and the Straits. - The catch form is reachable with VoiceOver, and the tab bar reads its four tabs correctly again. - The NOAA regulations link opens again on every species page, and species NOAA publishes no page for no longer show a dead button. - Corrected the source citations behind the species habitat profiles. ### 2.7.1 — 2026-08-24 Vessel traffic, a compass, and a timeline that finally reads in your timezone. NEW • Vessel Traffic (AIS) — live commercial vessel positions on the map for Tournament captains, coloured by vessel type and aged honestly, so you can tell a fresh contact from a stale one. Tap any vessel for its details. Not for navigation. • Range and bearing — every pin and the live cursor now say how far and which way from the boat, as a compass point, updated while you drag. • Compass — appears the moment the chart drifts off north-up, and snaps back with one tap. • Wave period and outlook currents now show in the Inspect card, with bearings written the way a captain reads them. FIXED • The map no longer opens on a forecast date with a dozen layers drawn blank. Your timeline stays on the freshest measured water. • Dates and times read in your local timezone. Evening planning had been running a day ahead — it isn't now. • Current flow draws across the Mid-Atlantic canyons instead of spending itself in the Gulf. • Two crashes at launch. • Sign-in confirmation emails that never arrived. • Alerts can be switched back on after you've denied them, and the alert settings say what they mean instead of "day | only | prime". SHARPER • Sea surface temperature stretches its colour range to the water on screen, so a break in the Gulf or the Straits reads as clearly as one off Hatteras. • The layer list is ordered by what captains actually reach for. • Break strength in the point readout is calibrated to the real field. • All eight species silhouettes redrawn against the real release flags. • The guided tour now opens on the model itself, not just the sea surface temperature. NEW • Mark fish as raised, lost, boated, or released. Every entry captures the same water conditions, so the model learns from all of it, not just the ones that made it to the deck. • Nail the exact catch time. Drag back on a scrubber, use the native time picker, or grab it straight from your photo's timestamp. • Tides. Inlet cards with the day's highs and lows from NOAA CO-OPS, free for every captain. Every catch you log now records the tide it was caught on, so the pattern is there when you go looking for it. • Relief-shaded bottom. The shelf, the canyons and the ledges read three-dimensionally instead of as flat colour, and the depth contours were rebuilt at native resolution — the shelf break is drawn where it actually is. • Vessel traffic on the map (Tournament). Live commercial ship positions around you, refreshed as often as every 30 minutes. Not for navigation. • Your logbook says which trip a fish came from. Tap through from the fish to the trip that produced it. • A layers picker that gets out of the way. A header with clear-all in one tap, compact rows, and the list grouped by what each layer costs you. • The Gulf of Maine is now a region, with its own briefing and pins. • Your own numbers are free. History and trip detail no longer sit behind an upgrade — you never meet a paywall where your own catches are the data. • Pull to refresh on Reports, your Logbook, Trips, and the map. • Proper dark and tinted app icons for iOS 18 home screens. FIXED • Notifications. Alerts now prompt correctly for your account, and turning them back on is one tap. • Smoother sign-in when Apple Sign-In isn't available on your device — we point you straight to email instead of a dead end. • Performance. Fixed a slowdown that could make the app feel laggy after extended use. • The sign-in screen could freeze for two seconds or more on a cold start — it was compiling graphics shaders on the main thread the first time the screen drew. It doesn't any more. • Restore Purchases reports the plan you actually hold, not whatever the store last reported. • The downgrade button on the upgrade screen renders as a button again. • Trip fixes: an archived merged trip keeps its crew mark, and trip detail no longer offers an edit that nothing saved. • The Report tab loads your timing and tide cards every time you open it, not just on a fresh install. Your catch locations stay private by default, and shared catches are location-masked before anyone else sees them. ### 2.4.0 — 2026-08-11 • Start with a full week — seven days of everything, no card required. • Crew trips: invite your crew or a guest, share catches and photos, and add crew comments alongside the captain's log. • Plus performance improvements and bug fixes. ### 2.3.0 — 2026-07-28 ONE MONTH FREE Both plans now start with a free month. Captain or Tournament — nothing charged until it ends, cancel any time in your App Store settings. WHAT EACH PLAN IS Captain reads the water: every observed ocean layer — weed lines, warm-core and cold-core eddies, current flow, 30 m subsurface, depth contours — plus your region's daily briefing and tomorrow's habitat map. Tournament gets the model's picks, and where they're going. The fishing recommendation pins and Projected Drift now sit here, alongside the +2 and +3 day outlook, ten spot briefings a day, and the species playbook. PURCHASES THAT DO NOT GET LOST If the App Store hiccups mid-purchase, the app now notices, recovers the purchase on its own, and offers Restore if it cannot. Backing out of a purchase no longer shows an error — in any language. Upgrading from Captain to Tournament now applies reliably, whichever order the store reports it in. THE FOUNDING 100 The first 100 captains to complete a payment get a founding number, shown in the app. Not for navigation.
