## What is brewcalc?

brewcalc is a fast, offline calculator built for homebrewers. Four focused tools cover the numbers you actually reach for on brew day — no recipe-builder bloat, no sign-up, and no internet connection required.

Every calculation runs entirely on your device. There are no ads, no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.

WHAT'S INSIDE

• ABV & Calories
Enter original and final gravity to get alcohol by volume, using either a Simple or a more accurate Advanced formula. brewcalc also shows apparent attenuation and an estimated calorie count per serving — handy for dialing in a sessionable beer.

• Water Salts (ion balance)
Enter your water volume and the salt additions you're making — gypsum, calcium chloride, Epsom salt, baking soda, and more — and instantly see the resulting mineral profile in ppm (calcium, magnesium, sodium, sulfate, chloride, bicarbonate). Calcium chloride can be entered as either dihydrate or anhydrous.

• Residual Alkalinity
Turn your calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate levels into residual alkalinity (the Kolbach value) so you can judge whether your water suits a pale or a dark beer. Negative values are shown honestly, not clamped.

• Mash pH
Estimate your mash pH from your malt bill and any acid additions, using the deLange model. The app cites its source and is upfront about real-world accuracy (±0.1–0.2 pH) so you always confirm with a test mash.

BUILT-IN UNIT SWITCHING

Brewers don't all measure the same way, so brewcalc lets you switch units right at each field — your numbers convert live, instantly, without re-entering anything:
• Gravity: Specific Gravity, °Plato, or °Brix
• Alkalinity: as bicarbonate (HCO3) or calcium carbonate (CaCO3)
• Volume: litres, US gallons, or Imperial gallons
• Malt mass: kilograms or pounds

CLEAR, HONEST GUIDANCE

Every calculator includes a tap-to-open info panel that explains the formula in plain language — what it assumes, when it's accurate, and where to be careful. brewcalc tells you what the math can and can't do instead of hiding it.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Your gravity readings, water figures, and results never leave your phone. There's no login, no cloud, no advertising SDK, no analytics, and no tracking. If you choose to leave a tip, the purchase is handled securely by Apple — brewcalc never sees your payment details.

FREE, WITH NO CATCH

Every calculator is free — no subscriptions, no paywalls, no ads. If brewcalc earns its keep on your brew day, there's an optional tip jar; everything works exactly the same whether you tip or not.

Whether you're brewing all-grain, tweaking your water chemistry, or just checking the ABV of your latest batch, brewcalc gives you the answer in seconds. Cheers, and happy brewing.
