If you have a problem with it connecting you have to toggle your Bluetooth on and off. All apps by these folks are bad, so this is just how it is. For a premium products like the Pearl S this is disappointing. No grinder setting for the - very popular - Comandante and no possibility to add a custom one. This app is thus designed for such and is profile view only, no landscape more suitable for iPads and PC’s. I don’t want 5 separate apps. Second, it needs to be easier to find recipes. There’s no apparent way to just browse everything that’s available. You have to know exactly what to search for. Also get more guides on there. Maybe reach out to brewers for recipes. ### 3/5 — Combine apps *2020-06-25* For a scale that small I need 3 apps to use it, one is for brewing guide other for a remote use and another to update the scale there is no need for all those it should all be combined under one single app for all models once you register your product will give access to that specific model ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Crashes *2023-06-08* Brewguide is THE reason I got this scale. I built out my brew and saved it. Crash. Tried to edit the saved brew. Crash. Want to delete it. Crash. Help? Well, at least I know why it crashes. The app allows editing some fields like Brewer, that are also offered as an enumeration (where you pick one). If you edit the fields, the app crashes when you try to load the recipe. This is bad, but the recipes cannot be deleted, which is worse. ### 1/5 — Is this ever getting new recipes? *2022-09-26* The functionality of the brew guide on the device is nil if I can’t change it to better suit my coffees. Are there other recipes coming or maybe general regional brew recommendations? My new iPad Pro works fine. Neither app can search for Brewguides . Only the default 3 show up, none of which I can use as they are all for the Kalita wave. You would think the software would work considering it’s a major selling point of the pearl s over the pearl ### 1/5 — QR mode will not access IPhone X camera *2019-05-23* I was very excited about this Brewguide feature.. please update **Developer response:** We are sorry to hear you experience a camera issue To check if this is a permission issue, please go to your iPhone's Settings, scroll down and select the Brewguide app. Check to see if Camera permission is On or Off. If set to Off - please turn ON and start Brewguide app again - to check if it solved problem. If this is Not the issue, then I will ask you to please contact our Support team so they can help solve this issue for you. You can send email to support@acaia.co or use the Feedback option directly from within the Settings page in the app. ### 1/5 — Crashes when saving Brewguide *2019-05-05* I have yet to properly use this app due to it crashing. Downloaded Brewguide to use with the new Acaia Pearl S, which is stated to be the only working app for it. There are only 2 guides in the app, neither of which are for a Chemex so creating one is the only option. Unfortunately after creating a custom guide, the app hangs and crashes when trying to save. No guide saved, back to square one. Tried again and same thing. Also, when creating steps for the guide, the water gram value automatically resets to zero if you go back in to edit steps. The Acaia Pearl S is a great scale and I’m looking forward to using its full potential. Unfortunately this app needs work and is too early in its infancy stage to be usable. **Developer response:** We are happy to inform that there are now Chemex specific recipes - and there should be no issues saving custom. There are also many other improvements since the version that you rated. Please try our latest version and give us some feedback based on that one. ### 1/5 — Difficult to use, hard to find the features *2019-05-04* Had this for a week. Still dont know what the app does besides set the mode of the scale separate from the buttons on the scale. The recipes are few and not relevant to me. Difficult App to figure out. It disconnects often even when right next to my scale. ### 2/5 — Good idea but not intuitive & low participation *2020-05-27* I bought the Pearl S to make the most of Brewguides but have found it disappointing. I have not found a speciality coffee roaster that uses it in the UK. The only guides available are the standard Acaia guides. With greater roaster participation it would come into its own. Making your own brewguides is not intuitive and is slow. The transfer process is also slower than you would expect and the way the scale displays the guide is a bit confusing, sometimes requiring interaction, sometimes not to move between steps, I’m sure this can be changed but it is not clear. At first I didn’t see much of a point because there were no brew guides available. But since then I have been trying to upload recipes for others to use. I think it has great potential it just needs users to create a community!
