### 2/5 — Can’t send messages to matches

*2025-02-11, version 3.1.0*

Possibly the stupidest rule on any dating site. You get a match, and can’t send them a message without paying for it. Upon writing this review, I had to double check this is the case, because it seems so pointless. In an already crowded market of dating apps, this only encourages users to walk away to one of your competitors. It’s a shame, because my beard game is strong 👌🏼

### 3/5 — Was Really Excited...

*2018-03-27*

As a woman who loves a bearded man, I was super excited to get started with this app. The concept is so cool but so far everyone I’ve liked appears to be an inactive profile! They are all noted as being “online more than a week ago”, which is disappointing— they have great beards! I’ve expanded my search area to the near max and get very few new profiles to look at. Please Bristlr, this is such a great concept you have created, I just wish it had more available (and active) beards!

### 2/5 — Maybe marketing would help.

*2017-12-03*

The problem with this app is simply that there is no one on it. It seems to list people in order of there last login. I live in an urban area and I set my radius to 50 miles, yet somehow the third person it shows me hasn’t logged in in the past week.
Kick some money towards marketing. This could be enjoyable, but it’s a waste of time.

### 2/5 — Rubbish app

*2017-03-12, version 1.5.3*

App is so terrible, cheap and nasty looking and everything takes ages to load. Uninstalled it for the second time.

### 1/5 — Crud

*2016-09-21, version 1.5.3*

If this app is for gay men should just advertise itself as such; averaging 3 profiles a day, most are inactive or not even women.

### 1/5 — Difficult to use

*2016-08-28, version 1.4.2*

Really counter intuitive app. Hard to navigate and a UI that doesn't respond to natural mobile interactions

### 2/5 — Cool concept, bad app

*2016-08-20*

The thing that drives me nuts is you can't even message the people you are interested in unless you're lucky enough to have them heart you back. When you live in a rural area like I do, you have to expand the distance range to allow for more matches. But that doesn't mean the person you like will do the same for you, because they might already live in a big enough area and don't need to expand their search. Therefore they never even get to see your profile and they won't know you're interested in them unless they pay the stupid fee. I have already wasted money on dead alternative dating sites like this one and I am not doing it again. This app has lots of room for improvement but the creators only seem to care about getting their money. It has so much potential if they would just put in the work. Don't waste your time on this app unless you're planning to waste your money along with it. Otherwise it is utterly useless.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2016-02-03, version 1.4.2*

Consistently offers matches that are ridiculously outside stated match parameters, both for age and distance. If we set filters, then apply them. And clearly no active users -- almost all profiles are long-time inactive.

### 1/5 — Great idea for an App

*2016-01-15, version 1.4.2*

However it doesn't work at all. I can't upload a picture to my profile. The app constantly gets stuck on the same screen

### 3/5 — Jury is still out but the potential is there

*2015-12-29*

Can't upload my own pics which is a critical part of this. The context is great though. If the developers put more effort into the app (primarily fixing bugs) then it could really be big.

### 1/5 — Not impressed in the slighest

*2015-12-27*

This app hardly works at best. Also they claim that it is for meeting people near you. You don't meet people near you. Instead you are constantly bothered by strange women between 1000 to 9000 miles away. I am good on this nonsense.

P.S. What is with everyone and their mom getting on the facial hair bandwagon? It's been there since the dawn of man. Let's get over it already.

### 1/5 — No gays

*2015-11-29, version 1.4.2*

App doesn't have any function to say you're looking for guys. Gay guys have/want beards too!

### 2/5 — buggy

*2015-11-06*

Great concept for an under represented minority in the dating world, but some serious software issues with uploading pics make this app a pain for the time being.

### 2/5 — Sexuality?

*2015-09-06, version 1.3.2*

Either this app is for straight people or they've forgotten to filter matches by sexuality.

Anyhow, the straight guys are far hotter than gay dudes on other apps. 👍🏽

### 3/5 — Sexuality filters would be great...

*2015-09-04*

This is a rad idea, but I wish there were a way to separate based on sexuality... It's kind of depressing to flip through a bunch of straight guys knowing the vast majority of them wouldn't want to meet up.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2015-08-25, version 1.3.2*

I just get a blank white screen.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Totally rubbish

*2023-03-03, version 2.6.0*

The owner should feel ashamed at the low ratings and if he was worth his weight in gold he could have changed this bristlir to make it better but instead he obviously is not bothered . The app does not connect you have to switch off phone put it back on and it needs a revamp . I would not bother joining its totally crap hence the bad reviews

### 1/5 — Wisdom man

*2021-12-09*

I have liked eventually all the profile on the app but I’m yet to receive a like or message from anyone, besides that I realize they haven’t updated their application for over 2yrs now or more. Although it’ll be one of the best dating app if only they can update and have members respond to likes or messages.. Thanks

### 1/5 — Name is already taken?

*2020-11-17, version 2.5.0*

So apparently this is an app where you need a unique username, which means I have to present myself as Name1234 as if I’m an AOL screen name or something.

I’m a human being, not a fictional character. Lots of people have the same name.

### 1/5 — Worthless

*2018-12-29, version 2.1.0*

One month in and there are no new users to "like" after my initial use on day one.

### 1/5 — Not user friendly and shows incorrect matches

*2018-08-23, version 2.0.0*

I’m getting women’s profiles despite giving my preferences and so many clicks are needed to navigate this app. Yet it hasn’t been improved in about a year! Also finding many people use just one photo that doesn’t show them clearly. All advice for profiles recommends using multiple images of you not your car. Why isn’t Bristlr cracking down so it can rise in the ranks of dating apps?! Quitting it again and won’t be back unless it improves

### 1/5 — It's embarrassing

*2017-12-20, version 2.0.0*

I came to look because someone had told me this was some kind of new 'gender free' dating etc... the reality is it's just a gimmick with some really unconvincing upgrades you have to pay for.

### 1/5 — Useless if you’re not heterosexual

*2017-11-29, version 2.0.0*

Thus is probably the worst dating app I have experienced.

The premise is cool. A lot of people love those with beards. However the first version had no real facility for anyone other than heterosexual people to meet.

Despite the supposed improvements in version 2, I see nothing to recommend in this app.

The user interface is so unfriendly, and the tone is still heterocentric despite protestations from the Bristlr team in the past that there would be greater inclusivity and a better overall experience was due to appear. I see no evidence of this in the latest update and certainly no indication of sexuality which is supposed to be a new feature. So it seems that if you are anything other than heterosexual then tough cookies.

The search is very poor with no logic to the results. This is like a rubbish version of Tindr.

As a guy seeking other guys there are better functioning apps out there and I will be deleting this from my phone.

### 1/5 — Deleted within 10 minutes

*2017-02-22, version 1.5.3*

At first, I thought this was an app for bearded people? But the majority of people aren't even bearded.
Let's not forget, if you wanna see who's "checking you out", you need to subscribe at a monthly fee. So really, it's just another money grabbing dating app.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2017-02-20, version 1.5.3*

The app does work, every time I try to load it it's just a blank white screen

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2017-02-14*

As a bearded man I had high expectations for this app, however, the lack of features and filters makes this utterly unimpressive. There is only a distinction between bearded and non-bearded so you get matched with the same sex quite often (not what I want). They used to send daily matches but that has stopped and after about a week, my 'distance' specifications went out the window and I started getting matched with people all over the country. Furthermore, it seemed as though a large majority of the women on there were only there as a joke. Most only had one pic or one pic of two females so you had no idea who you were matching with. This app needs a lot of work.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2016-10-13, version 1.5.3*

Brilliant app. Simple and clear system which is very easy to use. No glitches or bugs from what I've experienced. Just does what it's supposed to. Perfect 👍🏻💗

### 5/5 — Finally a beard guy dating app

*2016-02-28, version 1.4.2*

Everything is great so far

### 5/5 — Lot's of fun

*2015-08-20*

This app knows what it's about and just has fun with it. There's a sense of humor to it that definitely gives it character.
The app basically works like a cleaner okcupid, much more efficient and user friendly.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2015-02-28, version 1.0.10*

Bringing the bearded and the beard loving community together!

### 5/5 — Very nice!

*2014-12-28, version 1.0.9*

Works very well. 5 star considering this is a prototype!

### 4/5 — Good but problems.

*2018-02-23*

The idea is great! But there aren’t many people on here. I wen through all the girls in 2 days, and it’s been a month and I’ve only had 3 new girls appear. Since there aren’t a lot of users, not many people go on as there’s no one to look at.

### 4/5 — Fun!

*2017-12-01*

I love this app! I really wish you could message anyone though :( they have to like you back which is really rare
You can tell a guy created this cause you can’t use emojis 😰 I really really wish you could because it would make the app 100% better! I would be able to make my profile be more personal 💕😊💕
Awesome concept for an app though! ✨💖✨

### 4/5 — Love it!

*2015-04-21, version 1.1.4*

When my friend showed me this app I was over the moon as I Love Beards!!! & I just hope once you have full updated the "Prototype" it will be Brilliant!!!

### 4/5 — Beardy

*2015-01-24, version 1.0.10*

Simple design, simple setup. All your bearded needs!

### 4/5 — Can't wait for this to take off!

*2015-01-14*

A dating app with a beard filter, what more could a girl want? Needs to work on the flow of the app and a few more filters as far as sexual orientation and such. But otherwise, I hope it takes off soon. Fun app
