Now gatekeeping news *2026-04-29* This was a reasonably useful portal for Bristol news. But increasingly the premium label is put on live report reports, effectively forcing you to pay, and making the free version pretty much pointless. It’s a shame, it was nice but now won’t be bothering. ### 3/5 — No update on top stories.for over a week. *2023-10-05, version 8.3.5* Normally quite good, but the last week no updates on their top stories, no response when you contact them to inform them. It’s got to be in the thousands. There’s also no easy way to decline them all -look in the vendor list. It literally took me half an hour to go down the list to turn them all off. Regards, The ReachPLC App Team ### 3/5 — Comments link gone *2020-10-27* Yes,comments sections can be awful, but if you did leave a comment you could see in the app if anyone had replied. Now you get an email notification (not especially wanted) with what usually is someone’s terrible reply, which then takes you to the website not the app. It’s hard to refind stories in the app. So that was a good feature and it’s a shame it’s been changed. **Developer response:** Hi, we'd like to apologise for the inconvenience caused. Unfortunately, this feature was removed not because we wanted but because our new comment provider didn't support this feature. It could be so much better ! ### 1/5 — No sign in with Apple *2020-04-11, version 6.2.8* There is no sign in with apple option even when is required by apple api ### 1/5 — As stable as a giraffe on a trampoline *2020-01-25* Please could you add the contents of this app to the Apple News app as well because, quite frankly, this app is about as stable as a giraffe on a trampoline. When it comes to actually using it it constantly & consistently crashes whilst its either updating &/or whilst its being used, thus making it almost impossible at times to actually read it contents. It either needs a major overhaul, to be scraped completely & started again &/or to have its contents also ported directly into the Apple news app under the topic “Bristol Live” so that its contents can at least be read within a more stable environment. ### 2/5 — Sam5719 *2019-12-02* Good local news app. Useful information and notifications are 95% sensible so would recommend switching them on. Would be great if the comments were removed and the trolls silenced. The hate is horrible. Otherwise it would be a 5 star review. ### 3/5 — It’s ok, but it could be better! *2019-10-02* Main issue I have with this app is, when I select the notification of a news story it opens app at the homepage and then you have to search for the story!? Seems to be a bit pointless to me. Can also sometimes requires more signal to load stories as well. ### 2/5 — Messy and quite slow *2019-09-08* This app is too add heavy making pages slow to load. They often cause problems where you will open a page, and all you will get is the title forcing you to out and back in to get the article. Push notifications are terrible and do t link to the actual article. This is very irritating ### 1/5 — Terrible..... awful *2019-08-17, version 6.0.3* Just awful. Before the ‘big update’ it was crashy and now it’s still crashy!!! So nothing changed. The stories are pretty naff, same old restaurants reviewed and a bit of traffic news. Maybe some strange boring story about someone and their pet. Also the ‘live’ stories happening at this moment never seem to load properly. All in all a bit crap. ### 1/5 — “News” that’s not news *2019-06-25* So where do I start?? They re-run story’s every few months as if people have forgotten about the previous 23 times they have said “these are the X restaurants with zero food ratings“. Their proof reading must be done by someone who is completely illiterate or just doesn’t care about their work. Their reporters and writers must be laughing, being paid to copy and paste from various other sources. My assumption was that as it’s called Bristol live it would run local story’s so why run story’s for Wales, Exeter, Birmingham or anywhere that’s got a story you haven’t. Most of the stuff that isn’t re-run isn’t really news at all, it’s filler at best. The app is rubbish, it requires you to sign in every time you want to comment. Do yourselves a favour and just don’t bother, even if you download it there’s no news that’s relevant to your area. ### 4/5 — First Class *2019-02-21, version 4.2.5* I use it all the time. Wouldn’t mind paying for qualty content but most of it is so poorly written or rehashed old stories, that it is not worth it. The app logo appears & I have to open the app & find the article & start again. Then the same thing happens again! I’ve got better things to do than get frustrated trying to read something that mysteriously disappears in front of my eyes knowing that I’ll only be wasting even more time trying to repeat the process.
