### 5/5 — Tom Ord

*2026-03-30, version 1.3.3*

I listen to a lot of history podcasts and am a bit of a history nerd. And this is my favourite - super well researched, a strong point of view and good humour as well as deep insight. Jamie comes across as deeply interested in the topic, in the people and events that shape them and brings that love and engagement to his audience. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Fascinating

*2024-07-19, version 1.3.3*

I am from the United States and have visited the UK 3 times in short stints for a week at a time. Ever since, I have been fascinated about learning about UK history. I also learned a good percentage of my DNA is English from around the London area and Ireland so it intrigues me even more.

This is a wonderful podcast and usually I hate podcasts or even audiobooks due to hearing pretentious voices. Your voice is not and your passion for the subject really comes across to the listener. I listen to about 5-6 episodes at nights when I am diamond painting which together is very relaxing. I plan on listening part of the way through and joining with a membership.

### 5/5 — So good!

*2022-09-10, version 1.3.3*

I love this podcast so much.

### 5/5 — Outstanding!

*2022-07-23, version 1.3.3*

A first class and extremely detailed history podcast delivered with a light touch which makes this a very fine way to find out more about our very colourful history.

### 5/5 — Excellent series

*2021-11-13, version 1.3.3*

First class and comprehensive series of podcasts on British history. Truly excellent, thanks.

### 5/5 — Love the show, would like the app to remember where I paused when I reload the app.

*2021-08-25, version 1.3.3*

That’s all.

### 5/5 — Top podcast

*2021-01-05, version 1.3.3*

I found this podcast when looking for some info on Alfred. I was initially irritated that a British history podcast was being narrated by an American, though that was short lived as I listened to all the podcasts about Alfred then went back to the start and listened to everything. This is a great podcast and I am sorry I had such bad thoughts about Jamie first time out. I am a religious listener now. Not literally, more agnostic/atheist in a literal sense, but religiously listen...you get it, right?

### 5/5 — Real information and great insights

*2020-09-22, version 1.3.3*

I have been an avid listener and subscriber for over a year. The fantastic detail, primary source research, and the ability to make comprehensible very complex trends is Jamie’s gift. If you want context that extends from early Britain into contemporary thought, this is for you!

### 5/5 — Great!

*2020-07-15, version 1.3.3*

This is a fascinating podcast really well presented by a witty and fun presenter! Highest recommendation!

### 5/5 — Simply the best

*2020-04-28, version 1.3.3*

This is undoubtedly the best British history podcast anywhere, Jamie is brilliant

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.3 — 2019-07-09

This version of the BHP app has the following changes:

- The Forums view has been replaced with a Reddit view. The British History Podcast shut down the forum section of its website and that activity have moved over to Reddit. You can now access that through the BHP app.

- Some of the views and how they are displayed have been updated to work better on the new iPhone display sizes introduced since this app was last updated. As part of this and upcoming changes, the background image on the player view has been changed.

- There was a bug that caused the Description to be displayed twice. It has been fixed in this version.

A note concerning accessing BHP social media through this app - the Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit features of this app are intended to make the BHP social media available in one place, but are not the optimal ways to make use of or participate in those communities. Each of them offer apps and encourages use of those apps. But you can also ignore the "install the app" messages and access them through this app. It is your choice.

When you first use the Reddit view, it will prompt to use the app or the browser. In this case, select "browser" to view Reddit in the BHP app.

### 1.3.2 — 2018-04-30

This new version should correct the problem that has recently been causing the app to crash. There was a change in the info that the podcast feed sends to the app, so the app could not find info it needed and did not handle it gracefully.

The changes for this version are:
- The app will look for the info that it needs in alternate locations in the podcast feed.
- The app will be less likely to crash when it can't find the info it needs.

### 1.3.1 — 2016-06-16

This version of the British History Podcast (BHP) app corrects a regression in the previous version where the audio would not play in the background.

### 1.3 — 2016-05-24

This update to the BHP app includes the following changes:
- It gets the Member only feed from its new location. The old Member only feed has not been function for months and this update will allow you to access it again.
- It gets the Main feed from its new location. The old Main feed is still operational, but the service that it is running on is scheduled to be shutdown, so the Main feed is available in a new location, which will become the only location at some point in the future.
- Reimplemented the screens to use the current, preferred methods for being displayed. This will allow the app to better deal with different sized iPhones.
- The portion of the app that downloads the episode lists has been rewritten to no longer use iOS programming methods that are deprecated.

### 1.2 — 2013-11-25

This version fixes problems found in version 1.1.

- When running on iOS 6, across the app, some information was formatted and displayed incorrectly. This was mostly an aesthetic problem, but it also disallowed access to some of the podcasts. The problem has been fixed in this version.

- For podcasts that are longer than an hour, the time displayed (the current audio position and the remaining audio time) was formatted incorrectly under some circumstances. The problem has been fixed in this version.

- A small change was made to a displayed message in order to clarify where the user should enter the information needed to access the member-only podcasts.
